Looking for a place to play?  Well, you’re in luck, because World of Warcraft Miniatures Battleground events are rolling out in force next weekend.  Battlegrounds events are hosted at hobby stores and provide players a place to meet and play this exciting game.  Battlegrounds also offer great prizes, like  exclusive preview Minis and foil cards that other players won’t be able to get their hands on until the release of the Spoils of War expansion in April 2009! New prizes will be available each month, so check back here regularly to see the most current prizes you’ll be able to walk away with.

The first preview Miniature, in January’s kit, is Daxin Firesworn.  A unique piece in any party or collection, this Blood Elf Warlock sports a special silver base that is exclusive to the preview Miniatures that will be given out in every month’s Battlegrounds events.     

Daxin has a good range of stats for a 7 Honor Cost character.  This warlock should be an interesting addition to any party, as his crit effect deals extra damage and heals damage from Daxin.  And having a four health point swing after a fortunate die roll is something that should keep Daxin on the map.

The Battlegrounds events also offer new Action Bar cards as prizes.  Spellsteal is a brand new Mage Action Bar card that allows Mages to snag some of the powerful buffs that might be helping your opponents’ characters. Rejuvenation? Bestial Fury? If it’s helping your opponent, it’ll probably work great for your Mage, too!

Even if you don’t play Mages or Warlocks very often, there is still something from January’s Battleground prizing that might interest you – another new Action Bar card, Fog of War.  This generic Ability Card is also an instant that if timed correctly should really make your opponents rethink their strategy for the turn, since the tick that this card is played on, characters can only target allies and enemies that are adjacent to them. 

The Battlegrounds events with these great prizes start on January 16^th, and will take place every weekend thereafter. Ask your local gaming store if they plan on hosting these events on or after this date.  If your favorite gaming store is not signed up to host these events, you should definitely mention to them that these exclusive Battleground events will let them stand out from other stores hosting events.

January’s Battleground kits introduce the first new character and cards since the Core Set release and all of these items become legal for Constructed play on January 16^th, 2009.  In addition, all of the preview cards will be foil which should prove to maintain the value of these items long after they have officially released in Spoils of War.
