    Shifting Cards Out??

So I am a new player to WOW TCG, I used to play Magic The Gathering but sold all my stuff because I was sick of dropping a crap load of money on cards that are just cycled out in a year. I read the rules for WOW Constructed it kinda did but didnt answer my question. The paragraph says the following.

"There are several derivatives of basic Constructed play, and many will impose limits or restrictions on the cards you can use in order to add new twists to the competitive experience. If an event is referred to as just a "constructed tournament",it's usually safe to assume that there aren’t any extra rules."

    http://entertainment.upperdeck.com/wow/en/organizedplay/rules/tournamentrules/

    four paragraphs down.

This makes me believe that WOW TCG sets will not be shifted out of Constructed - basically making an entire site not mainstream legal (cuz seriously who playes Type 1 or Vintage Magic)

So Is my guess correct? Anyone have offical wording on this matter?

At this time they haven't announced any set shifts in the main constructed tournament format.  What that particular passage probably refers to is constructed formats like Lazy Peon (commons and uncommons only) or Highlander (only one of any given card in a deck) that adds extra restrictions to the normal constructed format rules.

    Re: Shifting Cards Out??

There is no official word either way. The only thing they have said is that there will be a "block format". But, they have never stated whether this means certain sets won't be legal in the future.

But, the main reason why they might do this is to help new players get into the game. Imagine 3 years down the road when a new player wants to get into WoW and they find out they have to track down Stronghold Gaunlets from the very first set in order to make their deck viable. That would seriously limit the interest of new players.

    Re: Shifting Cards Out??

What they may look to implemet may be a block format but they may just release a core set that they can recycle and add cards into.A basic set for anyone. IE core set in magic.
But I think they are gonna need to start thinging of implementing stuff by the end of this year because they are putting out so many sets out so quickly. I want to see the game thrive but I dont want it to turn into Yu-Gi-Oh. (where every other day they seem to release a set of cards to suck money outta people). I also see it being very hard to cycle some cards out without toatly destroying certian talents/builds as they have to follow the abilitys as close to the real game as close as possible. Mind you the day an arms specced warrior cant mortal strike or heroic strike ill be rather pissed.
I cant see them recycleing armor but I can see them recycleing abilities.  Im figureing they will end up releaseing a "core set" every year to keep Class abilities in the game but I can see everything else cycleing out.

Honestly, I don't think 3 sets per year, with 2 raid decks in between is too many. Any less and the metagame would get stale pretty quickly.

well in reality, its only gonna be right now 2 sets this year. HoA came out last year. In a year since the game came out 3 sets will only be released so far, but only 2 for this year.
then you also have to factor in 2 raids as well too.

They released a set in April (month 4) and August (month 8). What makes you think they won't release another set in December (month 12)?

The rampant optimism of a compulsive spender...

Anyway, next set isn't going to be as large so not quite the same dent on the wallet. Ultimately however any successful tcg has to takle the balance between old players with old cards and new players with none. How you handle that varies from company to company - but no-one adopts a 'a hell, just let them all be legal' policy across the board.

March of the Legion seems to be the title for Set 4, and according to online retailers its expected Nov 2007.  (As related to me by FLGS owner, online here: http://wizarduniverse.stores.yahoo.net/jun074908.html)
