Realms this weekend - what about...?

So the chatter has been full of Amalars, Jaina/Jezbella, Cairne, and Mortimers (mostly because of me - I'm still convinced that if I were able to make it to Sacremento I could demonstrate how gross they can be in this meta).  But has anyone tested:

    Wilton Thorne x3
    Breakthrough x2
    Dodge x2
    Heroic Leap
    Foreman's Reinforced Helmet x2
    Sunder Armor x2

He can get to the hill on tick 1, his brothers can redirect ranged attacks from him, if he gets knocked off, he can Breakthrough back on, and if he actually needs to, he can sunder and swing.  I would debate tossing Sulfuras into the sideboard in place of 1 copy of Sunder Armor

I wanted to give everyone a list of all the trustworthy people who traded with me on this site, but it exceeds maximum character length. To me, that's a hopeful sign.

There are a few problems with this army. The most problematic is that you don't gain much from the Wilton redundancy, and that there's no way for you to kill anything (meaning you're all in on the Capture the Hill plan... I like having options).

The lack of killing is why I would consider Sulfuras/Sunder Armor on 1 of them, but there's nothing wrong with being on the hill for 12 ticks either.  A 3/2/8 body will endure there for awhile, especially if some of the ranged attacks are being diverted.  The 2 pieces that aren't on the hill can be ready to Breakthrough onto it as soon as the first one falls.  Since you aren't ticking up to attack (or when you do, it's only for 2), any piece that dies will come back almost immediately to help divert range from the new king.  Your opponent will be forced to gain all their points from kills, and they will have to do it before tick 12-15.

So, I think you're grossly overestimating Wilton's durability, as well as the benefits of Protector when on the hill.  Against a typical Vashj team, you'll be lucky to score more points than a careless shop teacher can count on one hand.

On tick 2 and beyond, two figs can get adjacent to the hill, negating Protector.  On tick 3, the hill can be surrounded.  Vashj (next to Wavecaller) is going to one-shot a Wilton something like 40% of the time.  And Wavecaller or a shaman can finish off the ones he doesn't.  You'll be lucky to score one point per Wilton before they're wiped.  Once they're all dead, Vashj murders your Wilton's as they respawn.  With three ticks from spawn to hill, I doubt you ever see it again.

Jaina/Savin/Jez has similar DPS, and Mortimer's don't even have to kite you, since it takes ~5 Wilton attacks to kill one.  The low-honor, high health, triple breakthrough might be okay vs. Velen or HHT.

I'll play coy until Sunday, when I have my Spectral Tiger and either 2500$ in vouchers coming in the mail or a PS3 or iPod Touch in hand.

Your intuitions are good but you're taking them in the wrong direction. This is the pure 'take the hill and hold it' approach. You need to adapt it so it's winnable against the meta, in particular the usual suspects (Vashj, Velen Wall, Morts, possibly Zoo except even when it's the best band nobody wants to play Zoo...). You also need a plan against the anti-bands.

There are cards missing that are key, and limiting yourself to the Warrior pool isn't going to give you them.

I'm not going to Realms, and I already mentioned that I would prefer to play mages.  I'm just talking about all of this for fun and speculation.

    Confident, aren't we?

Well, now that you've foisted Ian off on me, I guess you've improved your odds.

    haet.

Re: Realms this weekend - what about...?

People with previous success at high level events I know are making it to Syracuse: Me, Marc, Ming, Syphonhail.

Well, what do you know! That's exactly four people. Room for everyone! ;)

I am a lot more confident with my band choice than I was for Worlds, oddly enough. I have game plans for everything I think I'll face, and some for a bunch of things I don't think I will.

Holy crap, dude. When did you get so cocky, Blackbloc?  Next time, give me advance notice, and I'll paint up your team for the event with the line "[Event] Champion" etched into the rim of the bases.

    Cheers!

The real question is why I was NOT cocky for the past few weeks: having done jack squat as results at both GenCon and Worlds.

My post-loss mindstate is wiped, and Realms is easy cake compared to DMF (and certainly much easier than Worlds), so I'm in just the right mood right now to be back to my usual cocky self.

My costs are down (woo! road trip, no stupid plane!), my expected value is up, I came up with some great warband that plays to my strengths, and the only thing I'm afraid of is the second band I designed as a direct counter to mine (that's still good against the field) and Marc is going to be playing. Hopefully against me in the finals. :P

    Things are good.

Sweet mercy, dude. Okay, BB, then when you decide on your party for DMF Vegas, PM me and I'll start painting yours for you the way I painted up Isgee's realms party.

    Cheers!

After considering what everyone has posted, maybe the better approach to 12 honor for King of the Hill would be Marlowe/Wilton/Blindloc.

You mean for Vegas? Too early to pick most tri-color teams, since we dont know the map yet.

    Cheers!

    whoops
    my circuits crossed
    :)

How about Wilton/Enaria/Kiala?  14 honor, but the on-card fear is worth the extra 2.
