    i have a dirty secret..

hi all, i just thaught i would do a little boasting before i spend 30 hours flying over to win worlds =]
i have been doing ALOT! of testing on the map and the scenario, about 30 hours a week for the last 3-4 weeks.
i have come up with 2 parties that have the goods, but 1 is far superior then the other, worlds is all about the flag baby!!!

so heres a team that i was planning on playing, jusyt to get you thinking..

    team speed freaks..

    GOBLIN SHREDDER-
    *fog of war.
    *silk bandage.
    *swiftness potion.

    RETHLIGORE-
    *lycanthropy.
    *swiftness potion.

    FROSTSABER PROWLER- (the beast!!)
    *bear necessities.
    *cornered.
    *rip to shreds.
    *x-51 rocket helmet.

as i said its all about the flag, in testing the games over quickly as no one can catch these beasts, and range is ineffective.

truly broken, try it and tell me what you think, and for the record this is the second best team in the format =p

Re: i have a dirty secret..

I've beaten this team two weeks in a row in my local Battleground, so I hope your boasting understands.

most recently, this past week, I beat it with this:  http://www.critshappen.com/2009/09/wednesday-weekly-warband_30.html

It's been talked about on the boards here and it is a good team, but it is beatable and not as unstoppable as you may think.

I personally have been playtesting the same team you have but with a Felguard Legionnaire instead of the prowler.  He has demonic portal, can benefit as much as the goblin's attacks with Lycanthropy, and is better for fighting as you will most undoubtedly not be able to win every game with flag caps alone.

Best of luck though, I'm sure Monsters will be heavy there with FOW combos like this, but I don't see it handling Jaina.  My prediction is Jaina will be all over the top 8 and more.

    Good luck against Zoo.

My eyes! The Fog(gle)s do nothing!

Try to run down the clock without your opponent or a judge noticing, it's basically your only game plan.

Re: i have a dirty secret..

i dont think you guys quite get it, the sheer speed of this team allows it to never get caught, this team never needs to attack, the only reason the gear is there is a last ditch contingancy plan, the idea is the shredder kites in to a corner/ guard the vp, while prowler is the key, he gets the tropy and the rocket allows him to swoop in and out of anwhere, he effectively can use 5 movements in any tick after 6 and thru terrain so with the shredder getting chased down and the rethligore acting as a divert wall the prowler is in and out, steals the flag, get a kill ad then thats the game, because from there the opponent has to kill everything and its to hard to do if you play right.. i would suggest really playing this team properly, as for the kiala haruka thangal team, weve tried it, it doesnt have the speed to catch this team and cannot beat it if played right on both parts.

as for zoo, go for it, pets are to slow to catch up.. and aoe with fog is pointless, you can not make the attck so aslong as shredder is active and the other 2 are moving 3-4 spaces per turn it comes down to a divide and conquer.

Go ahead and show us how you beat Phad, Phad, Bolvar when they sit on your spawn.

No seriously, you do know Fury has 3 move too, right? And that your flag carrier is 7 life with a paper thin 1 Armor? Just checking.

Re: i have a dirty secret..

BB, I think I agree with the OP here, Zoo definitely can't beat Fog, and I'm definitely not sure how you think it can. They start the game either a few ticks ahead of you or in lycanthropy, zoo players choice, and then it just goes downhill from there. Jaina and the KKBrothers can't attack, the WElementals attack is largely worthless, and the Furies die immediately, getting off one attack. I don't think the slightly hardier Old Bonesii will carry you to victory, somehow. And don't say Viper Sting. We know how that does.

Also, OP, you're wrong and I would bet against you winning Worlds, though I am curious what you think the "best" team is.

Also, I'm highly skeptical of someone who says they spend a jobs worth of hours testing every week, and I'd be skeptical of their and their testing partners abilities given the ABC choices of this band (and the character choices).

    1207521:
    Zoo definitely can't beat Fog

The thing with Fog is that once you go that way you need to keep it up the whole time. Otherwise it just delays the inevitable, which is the big Zoo turn where you get all your guys off at once. As for Old Bones... it's not going in for this matchup. You got for a more aggressive pet, and you set up the Pet attack, kaustron summon new pet, second pet attack, twice turn on either the flag carrier or the gobbo.

Obv. gobbo is playing Silk Bandage + Fog, otherwise you basically win tick 11 when both his ABCs ready and he can't keep up the Fog wall. With Zoo that makes Bandage a blank, basically, since he won't ever get to do anything but Fog. Attack or Silk Bandage means a swift goblin death.

All that time you're playing 3 against two (the pets vs his team) and set up for 6 vs 2.

Like I said, time is the only obstacle. You're up on points so as long as you force the game to go long, that's actually your only option as Zoo will chip you down with their superior firepower otherwise.

Viper Sting is probably a non-issue considering you won't get base contact with the gobbo, ever.

Anyway, it's moot. Zoo is pretty much the only match this has a chance against, and that's by going to time. Even if I'm wrong on the Zoo match, the team is not winning Worlds.

Re: i have a dirty secret..

ok just to clarify a few things.. there is not a single team that beats every team, there are players that can beat a team, and players who can beat players, there are teams that beat teams, and teams that beat players..

how many of you ever played a game on a standard map where you vs the top team from the dmf with jank and beat it by nothing but moving with no attack?

i have.. and before you question the player who i vs'ed then think again, the person i beat was the person that came second to me at our national champs.

all it takes is 1 mistake and it can cost you the game.. any real player would understand this, and only a smart player could come back from there. as i have been bought up believing, its not how you get into a hole but how you get out that matters.. sure anyone can pick the 'best' team in the format and play it, but you can have a far superior player playing a worse team and win.

so to answer all these questions that have arrose..

viper sting on shredder.. means there has to be a hunter, hit there range, kite, then as i said, attacking is a back up plan, hunters are usually fragile so when i force them to come in im pretty confident i can take them out.

fury with 3 move.. yes i did know that, but how is fury any good when hes dead? pay 3 to summon him, ill pay 2 to kill it.. no brainer..

only a idiot could lose with this team against zoo.. if you dont pack viper sting your screwed.. kk brothers have no attack, pets get otk'd and jaina also has no attack, and jaina is easy pait unless you ice block.. effectively making it 2 kaustrons and 2 pets on my 3 guys and im confident my 2 tick attacks can take the kaustrons out.. and survive a few themselves..

and with prowler, he is not always the carrier, i have used all 3 as they are all capable, as for his armour, 6-10 he is 2-4-7 with 4 move, with 1 extra if i save his abc.. so i think getting the flag will be fine and i am capable of killing..

phad phad and bolvar, go for it, get a kill so i get 7 points.. 4 for 7 is fair considering your honour is way higher then mine.. tick up 2-3 of your guys killing 1 of mine so i can get the next 7.. think twice buddy.. phad phad bolvar is stupid in this matchup.

and lastly, Ben. 30 hours a week is actually pretty easy, considering its all me and my flat mate do at home every night after class, easily 4-6 hours a day 6 days a week.. and also looking for the best team is quite simple, lets just say hell was calling 3x..

but not to worry, i have a surprise for you all

Re: i have a dirty secret..

I'm curious how this team would do, but it looks like your gonna play something else.  Also, you didn't mention anything about how you can get the pitzog of your spawn to score a cap?

Please let us know how you do after-wards with whatever team you play.

Re: i have a dirty secret..

Most of what you wrote sounded like nonsense, but I skimmed it and took your word for it because I don't test for 30 hours a week against the best bands played by our 2nd place nationals player blah blah blah, until I got here:

I don't follow.  There's a world (sorry, WORLD) outside of America?

They cut our geography and history classes to make room for gun drills, Catechism, and 23 repetitions of the Pledge of Allegiance.  I can't wait to meet all of you strange ethnic types in Austin and learn about your silly cultures and help you learn how to play better, like Americans.

    Oooh Ohh!!

Cairne beats your tech quite easilly :-P I am hoping to see some good players come with the good old Tauren (shame I can't be at the worlds myself)
A Cairne team I had some fun playtesting was:

    Cairne-Aleyah-Daspien:
Cairne with Charge and Nightmare Blade
Aleyah with BoM and Crusader Aura
    Daspien with Sprint and Evasion

Daspien may not be the fastest runner in the game, but Evasive is easilly better than Fog of War is :-P
Still got some problems in playtests against Vashj though.. Think it is either a 50/50 matchup that one.. or a 60/40 in favor of Vashj.
