    Welcome to Austin

Well, the World Championships and DMF: Austin are just about a month away. There has already been some great talk about places in Austin. The Austin TCG/Minis group has put together the following to help everyone feel welcome in this great city. Over the next few weeks we may add additional data so check back every now and then! http://wow.hexagog.com/docs/Austin_Info.pdf Can't wait to see everyone in Austin!

    Re: Welcome to Austin

    Now, I'm sorry I can't come.
I know other players would be sorry too because they have lost an easy win. 8-)
    Nice initiative.
I hope a lot of people can come and that you have a fantastic championship.

The only thing I win is honor...

We in Valhalla Cardflippers thank you guys for doing this PDF. If it had been easier to get a green card I'd move to Texas asap.

    Re: Welcome to Austin

A bunch of players from Singapore are planning a trip up, any good recommendations for like a serviced apartment-type place for 5-6 days stay?

We figure it'd save more money than 3-4 hotel rooms during that time.

    Re: Welcome to Austin

There is an Extended Stay America in downtown Austin that I would check out. http://www.extendedstayamerica.com/minisite/?hotelID=842

Also, you can look at Craigslist in Austin and see if there is anyone renting space out. http://austin.craigslist.org/

Whoa - this is sweet!  Wish I had more than a Thursday night through Sunday morning trip planned - but I'll still be able to hit up some of this stuff.

    Re: Welcome to Austin

    Nice post!

Staying at the Hilton Garden Inn, looks like we will be right next to all the clubs!!

Think this is going to be one heck of a trip!

Does anyone know the best club/bars to go to? Looking for someplace like the Ugly Monkey in Indy. The French Maid contest that place had in 2008 was AMAZING.

    Re: Welcome to Austin

I will see what places people recommend... we have a place called the Chugging Monkey though... =)

    Re: Welcome to Austin

Yes, you are correct that the Hilton Garden Inn is a good location. You will be within a few blocks of 6th Street which has more casual college hangouts. There's a few good music venues there too.

Try East 6th too for some cool roof-top bars. East 5th/Warehouse district has more single professional type places.

Yes, we have a Chuggin Monkey, and a Coyote Ugly, but probably not anywhere as cool as Ugly Monkey downtown anyway.

    Re: Welcome to Austin

Extended Stay in downtown Austin is full. Someone recommended me to North Austin Plaza Hotel & Suites, any comments for this one? Also not sure how far / convenient it is for non-driving people.

    Re: Welcome to Austin

I don't know much about that place.  It is near the freeway.  If you don't stay downtown you will need to plan on taking a taxi.  From that hotel (~5miles) I would guess it is about $10 - $15 each way in a taxi depending on traffic.

The biggest problem is there is a University football game that weekend in town so there are a lot of rooms being reserved for that as well.

Re: Austin Last Minute Hotel Info

Thanks for putting together the Austin PDF guide!

If you're a last minute planner like me, here's some updated info:

The Hilton WoW group rate ended September 7th and is now $279 a night.

The Hampton next to the Convention Center has a few double bed rooms left for $209/night.
    The Radisson $220.15
    The Omin $242
    The Hyatt $249
    The Hilton $269
The Intercontinental Stephen F. Austin is a luxury hotel. $$$$

The following hotels in downtown Austin are full the weekend of Worlds:
    -Four Seasons
    -Extended StayAmerica
    -Driskill

Homestead Studios has rooms for $74.99 a night but it's a bit of a walk from the Convention Center. (512) 476-1818

There's nothing on austin.craigslist for 'Warcraft' except people selling their accounts.
