How to get the original paint off a Mini - Finished Product

Okay, I confess...I have murdered Graccus... and this is the story of how I did it.

It all started one Tuesday night. He was getting ready to swing his sword at another one of his "imaginary" adversary, unwittingly pointing his blade in my direction. It ticked me off. I mean, THIS was the LAST straw!! I took out my knife, hacked at his legs and off the base he goes..

now this is me getting tired of typing away..

Anyway, on to the main point/question. I've tried the non toxic/semi-toxic nail polish/nail color remover on him, damn original paint won't come off. Worse is, the plastic went kinda soft on me. Now I'm a bit apprehensive about using the strong toxic stuff to get rid of the original paint.

Any ideas? Has anyone been successful in actually removing the original paint?

    At Long last!!

I'm guessing that it's probably the lighting when I took the picture... I'll post new pics when I get time off.. which is like almost never T_T

Feel free to paint over it.  If you feel it necessary, use a light, and i mean LIGHT prime coat so that you dont have to do colors like reds and yellows twice in every section.

    Cheers!

Nail polish removers contain a substance that will literally melt plastic.  Even the non-acetone varieties will hurt plastic.  Acetone, and anything like it, should only be used on metal models with the understanding that any glue holding it together will melt away.

If you really want to get the old paint off I would suggest Simple Green.  Take a test model and soak it in a Simple Green/water mixture overnight and then take a toothbrush to it.  That might work, and is really the only safe way to possible remove the paint.

But, like Siggie said, many people have noticed no need to remove the old paint, or even prime over the old paint.  Good luck in your efforts!

After finally deciding to take the "light" prime coat advice (I'm not even sure if Siggie meant light color or light coat of primer) I finally got time off to go ahead with it. The repaint isn't completed yet but I guess I'm a step closer.

I also took a shot at dry brushing. I think I may have overdid it. Result was a way to dirty than what I expected.

Good news is, with the priming to white, I found that the left side of his face was not as deformed as I thought it was before. A little make-up in the right places should get him ready for the catwalk sometime soon.

I do have questions on priority of painting the figs though. I'm pretty sure that the rule of light color and areas which use a lot of the same color go first though. If it were up to you guys, which areas would you paint first?

Thanks again and comments and criticism are always welcome ^_^
