In the spirit of newness, let's take a look at the only deck in the Top 8 of Turin that made use of the new Arena Grand Melee cards.

It didn't seem like there were a lot of weapon pumps, so no mortal striking for 10...

Yea Mortal Strike doesn't look so effective in his version.

Poor Emmi would be so much better as an Engineer...

well the bonecracker is a selfmade pump, however, keeping out such an easily removable weapon can be tough : \

I really wonder how can a deck be good if it has no answer except dying to Rehgar + Orgrimmar on turn 7...

I wouldn't exactly call this a strike out deck.  Why is Mortal Strike even in this build?  Using it as a sort of heal interrupt maybe.  I don't know.

    Re: The Gladiators: Emmi Sprinklestrike-Out

Why Mortal Strike is bad in the deck...even as a 3 of...

Only 8 weapons.  Of which, you would almost certainly see only roughly 1 per game, and that's not counting if you are breaking your own V.Brands to remove something.

No pump, it's all about the allies in this deck.  The weapons just serve the purpose of adding small amounts of additional pressure.  If unchecked they will end the game, but it's not the main focus.

No Heroic Strike, without the big +3 for 1 resource, you aren't getting the +6 out of your abilities.  (Heroic (+3) + Mortal (+3)).  Room is very tight in this deck for such as card as well...but it's a reason they probably underperformed.

No way to protect weapons, I guess this sort of goes back to only having 8 weapons.  But no Pummel/Stronghold makes it tough to keep a weapon in play.

Now can you modify the deck so that Mortal Strike is good, absolutely, but then you are diluting your ally/Finishing Shout plan.

I guess Mortal Strike can be used as a blast on annoying allies too, like Sayge if you have V-Brand out.

    Re: The Gladiators: Emmi Sprinklestrike-Out

I think Mortal Strike might be in there as a pseudo-Sudden Death if nothing else. Instant ally removal, basically. Although extra hero burn out is an option, as well as anti-heal... I think the versatility would be what originally drew him to running it.

Understandable that there are probably better cards to include though, it's not really suited to the deck, as others have stated.

    Re: The Gladiators: Emmi Sprinklestrike-Out

This is the Ally heavy version of Emmi. Another version basically only runs 8-12 allies and packs more weapons and Heroic/Mortal Strikes. I kind of like this one better.

    Cheers.

Out of the 182 players in Turin, my guess is there was like 0 sayge being played.

Well, for those of us that do not have the luxury of having 3-4 Weldons to put in the deck, you gain the slots to put in 3-4 more weapons making MS better. The early version I built contains P-blades, V-brands, and Twin Blades.
