Tournament Organizing- How to Get Started

I run weekly Pokémon TCG tournaments at Aardvark Videos, Comics, and Games in Lusby, MD. WoW is selling pretty well here, so we've decided to start running regular weekly WoW TCG tournaments as well.

I have been struggling through the official WoW TCG website, and have found a lot of information, but have yet to see anything about running tournaments. So, here's my n00b question: What is the process for becoming a sanctioned tournament organizer and setting up our retail venue as a Battleground league, so we can run weekly tournaments and have that info displayed on the website?

I am excited about this and ready to get started.

Welcome! couple of things need to be done, on your side and then by your store itself.

    you:

Get a ude #, get it activated (see back of card) then take the judge and TO tests

    http://entertainment.upperdeck.com/op/judge/default.aspx

get a computer with MANTIS on it, you'll need it, on that note, NEVER erase emails from UDE about that stuff, the MANTIS password will be different than your others for UDE and it can be a pain to get back/resent if you lose it.

    store:

If they don't have one you'll need them to get an account with UDE, sorry, don't have a link for that one, but if the store goes to UDE's site I'm sure the contact email wil get youo pointed into the right direction.

Once they get the account, have them order up a battlegrounds kit, that will get you started!

Good luck firing it up and I hope it gets going for you, realize that after uyou get to know MANTIS you can track non-sanctioned events just to give them a look at your numbers, that you can do while waiting to get the accts set up and going.

Right. Find a local store that does do UDE events, any game, they should be able to get you one and you can start from there. If that is a no go you ask me to give you one. As a TO I have cards laying around, I get you the number and the activation code and off you go. If you think you just want to do it like that regardless pm me, we'll work it out.

depends on the size of the events. Our local store can hold 24-30 people without having to set much up, after that it takes more re-arranging. Any retail store that you can get 8-12 players in comfortably is a good place to start, game stores adn comic shops are the best IMO, as you are more likely to get some other folks interested as they pass by....

Only stores with direct Upper Deck accounts can order the Battleground kits.

They gave me some judge levels or something, too...

If you live in the United States, then I would send an email to entertainment@upperdeck.com.

If you live outside the US, then I would send an email to questions@upperdeck.com.

Ask them what you need to do to be able to order the kits.
I do believe that you have to be a store owner, or work in a store, but I am not 100% positive on that.
