    Card type color coding

I was wondering about the card type color coding. By this I mean the color at the top of a card where it's name is displayed and the space between the art and the text box where the reference words are displayed.

Up to now we've only seen a few card types.

Hero, Ta'zo's card has a red color.
Ability, Gouge has a purple color.
    Armor, Deathdealer breastplate is grey
    Weapon, Flame Wrath, also grey
Quest, Your Fortune Awaits You, 'Are We There Yeti?' and Tooga's Quest. All orange (brown if you want).

Now I have some questions. Of course not all card types are revealed yet. But I'm wondering.

Will all heroes have a red color? Or will the alliance heroes have a blue color? Or is it completely random?

Do all abilities have purple colors, or is it specified by class/other?

If both Armor and Weapon cards have the same color, why do they have different names and aren't just classed as 'equipment'?

I'm fairly sure all quests are in orange, unless there are some exeptions where I have read something about. I guess I could wait to find it but I'm just rather curious and wondering if it's not to soon to release this info.

    Rogue tip #3:
While stealthed, do not trip over any gnomes. They are easily overlooked.

    Re: Card type color coding

I imagine card colors are just part of the thematic presentation of each card - as Ta'Zo is a fire mage of the Horde it did seem fitting to have the rest of the card done in red. I imagine colors may be chosen randomly - but it isn't a point I'd dawdle on.

I think we just need to see more cards before we can cement details like this for sure. :D

    Re: Card type color coding

Well, you could consider both Armor and Weapons (and later items) to just be equipment and share the same color. The reasoning for seperate previews is pretty obvious since they have decidedly different functions.  I could see Alliance heroes having a blue theme since that is how it is often represent in the videogames.

Color schemes among similar cards is pretty common in most games, but there's always exceptions to the rule.

    Good question. Here's your answer:

Quests have an orange card frame.

Equipment (armor, weapons, items) have a greyish/metallic card frame.

Abilities have a purple card frame.

Alliance heroes and allies have a blue/black card frame.

Horde heroes and allies have a red/black card frame.

Neutral heroes and allies have a yellow/black card frame.

In future sets, Locations will have a green card frame.

Yay, thanks for the info. And there are some things ripark could add to his FAQ.

Oh woah, we're getting location cards? Are these going to be like quests (face up resource cards) or is this a totally new mechanic ala Vs. system?

These suprises just keep coming out of nowhere - I'm lovin' it. :D

I'm guessing location cards will be like field cards in YGO, but I'm not really big on TCG's so there might be other systems like it.

And the idea for neutral heroes is great! Opens up a lot of new options. Only one thing I wonder about is what classes are going to be connected to those neutral heroes?

My guess would be different from quests. Something like only one in play at a time. Both of you are considered to be there. The text will probably grant some global bonuses, so your opponent will want to play a location to change the venue so to speak to better help his deck. That's how I would do it anyway. A strategy that, while isn't necessary, can be a different way to approach deckbuilding.

    Re: Card type color coding

Yeah, field cards in YGO were initially weak due to the simple lack of cards to play specialised decks with, but they really grew to be an integral part of the game (A legendary ocean, anyone?)

I imagine by the time they get around to installing these location cards, they'll see play right away in the specialized game decks. Yes, I now have all of Orgrimmar to harbor my grunts in, and yeah - they all have trample while this location is in play.

    Possibilities.. :D

Oh yeah, you guys had *better* include Barrens as a location. No weenie rush deck has the thematic presence without "The Barrens" in play - you guys know it, I know it, everyone knows it. Make it happen!

I really hate color systems like this.  Color can be a major proponent to flavor in a game, and if every deck has the same color cards in it, the flavor really gets sucked dry.  In good games like Magic and Magi-Nation you can see the flavor of the deck just from the colors of the borders on the cards in it.

edit: I was really hoping red meant Mage and purple meant Rogue.
