I have a question about totems and the way they have been defined and then a ruling to Chain Lightning.

This is one of the definitions of Totems.
Totems aren’t allies, but they can be targeted as though they were allies while they are in play.

Example: Your opponent controls a hero, an ally, and a Totem. You play Chain Lightning. You can target the Totem for 3 damage. However, if you target the hero or the ally, you can’t choose to do 2 or 1 damage to the Totem as the link resolves, because Totems aren’t allies.

Chain Lightning, Shaman, 5, Ability—Elemental
Your hero deals 3 nature damage to target hero or ally. Your hero may deal 2 nature damage to another hero or ally. Your hero may deal 1 nature damage to another hero or ally.

Chain Lightning says it does two more damage to a hero or ally. And then another 1 to another hero or ally. But by you example you say I can't target the totem with chain lightning on the bounce because they aren't allies. But from the definition they can be targeted as if they were allies.

It just doesn't make sense to say that because then how could you target them in the first place with chain lightning and not be able to target them with the bounce.

The 'extra' damage done by Chain Lighting does not specifically target.  The only targeting done by Chain Lightning is the initial 3 damage.

Note that a targeting ability or power will specifically use the term 'target'.  If it doesn't, then you can't use it against a Totem.

This is why you can hit a Totem for the initial 3 damage, because it specifically states 'target'.
Neither of the other two damage points say target.

I am sure this is going to be the stupidest qn, it is true that during your turn you can only "play" a (meaning 1) card from your hand? (excluding ability and instants)

Entirely false. The only limited action in your turn is that you can only place one card as a resource. As long as you have all required costs, you can play all the cards you have during your turn if you want.

There are many cards with powers that activate at the start of "your turn" and then there are some cards that say, at the start of "each" turn... does that mean that they are active at the start of my opponents tuen as well?

That is exactly what it means.  Each turn refers to everyone's turn.

This is a quick question about heroes and attacking. 

My friend at regionals lost a game because of this ruling.

Say you had a masons fraternity ring out, which gives your hero plus one attack while attacking.  This means your hero can attack and do one damage, correct?

The judge said you couldn't do that, as you have to have a weapon to attack with your hero.

So, is it right that Mason's allows me to attack without a weapon and do damage, or must there be a weapon to deal damage?  Thanks!

I feel dumb asking this because I've played TCG's for years, however this is my only real question.

 

I can make a resource any card I choose is what I'm getting, however, if that is the case, am I able to pick that card up and use it if I need it later? For example, I set down edgmasters handgauards in turn three, five turns later, I want to use those on my hero. Can I pick it up from my resources and use it, or is it forever stuck there until the end of the game?

You can indeed place any card in your deck face-down as a resource. But once it's down, you can't pick it back up.

I think that's a little dumb. Just means you have filler cards, seeing as deck building is about keeping cards you don't need out, but okay. Wonder how many people have put a card down and ten turns later been like "DAMN I NEED THAT CARD NOW!"
