    Play WOW TCG over the Internet with Apprentice

    Ok, here we go:

    First you need this template file for the Magic Set Editor:
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=X4B1F43I (<-- latest update)
    Then install the Magic Set Editor from
    http://magicseteditor.sourceforge.net/
    and Apprentice from
    http://www.magic-league.com/download/Apprentice.exe.
    After this open the "wow2.mse-set" in the Magic Set Editor.

    Click File > Export > Apprentice.

    You should be able to open the Deck Editor in Apprentice.
    Under "Filter" set "Expansion" to "WW-" and press the green button.
    Now you should see only wow-cards and should be able to build and save a custom deck.

    Now you can start a new game with your newly created deck. You can play over the internet or vs. yourself (just have to run Apprentice two times and insert your own IP).

    I have to thank JRalph (http://entertainment.upperdeck.com/WOW/COMMUNITY/forums/thread/183595.aspx) for providing the original 86 cards template for MSE - it was his idea - I just updated his database with 32 new cards and wrote this tutorial
    @JRalph: I hope you don't mind me doing this. I just couldn't stand that your great idea was completly forgotten.

    The template has every spoiled card in it and I intend to update it every week.

    EDIT: A few Notes, though:
    - cards are text-only
    - Apprentice is a M:TG programm where you can manually do things, you could also do while playing an offline game of WOW TCG. The program does not know the rules, so you have to do everything for yourself (tap, untap, reduce health, etc.) and your opponent must watch you, that you don't cheat or make a mistake.

    At the top there is written in big letters "MEGAUPLOAD". On the right of this you have to typ in the 3 letters you can see and then klick "Download".

    You must wait about 40 seconds then, until the download starts. Sorry, I could not find a better free hoster. :/

    Re: Play WOW TCG over the Internet with Apprentice

    Sweet, I downloaded everything and it works great. Thank you for doing this, SirJudic... it must have taken a long time. I have a few questions though: Is there a way to start the game with your hero in play rather than in your deck? How do you flip cards (quests)? Is there a way to play cards face down (non-quest resources)? Is there a way to mulligan? How would you complete quests such as Kibler's Exotic Pets or Are We There, Yeti? Sorry for all the questions... I'm new to this program =P But like I said, it looks great so far and I appreciate all the work you put into it. This will make testing proxy decks much easier.

    After you have importet the cards from the Magic Set Editor into the Apprentice Database, you have to set the filter in the Deck Editor to only show wow cards.
    Look at this picture.

    You have to set "Expansions" to "WW-" and apply with the green button.
    After this you should only see WOW cards.

    It is very intuitive. I have also not played with Apprentice before. : )
    Unfortunatley I could not find a way to start with your hero. (so just don't include him) You can set the life points up and down like you have to do it in Magic, but you have to keep you hero's flip-power in mind and if you have already used it or not.

    Edit: Maybe you CAN include your hero and at the start of a game, look through your whole library, move the hero into your hand, then into play and then mulligan with the rest of your library; this should work)

    Flip quests or flip to play normal cards as res:
    Just play a card onto your field and right-click on it > Flip card over

    You can mulligan:
    Action > Hand > Move hand to library
    Action > Shuffle library
    7 times "Draw button" (4th from the left)

    To solve a quest like kibbler's pets:
    Show > Top cards of my Library > 3
    View > Top cards of my Library > 3
    Hold the mouse-button and draw the desired card into your hand.
    Move the 2 other cards under your deck by pressing the button with the two arrows down (in the view cards window).

    To solve a quest like Are we there Yeti:
    Action > Create a card (name: Yeti power/toughness: 1/1 border: white (or blue or red for Alliance/Horde))
    draw the created card from your hand into play;
    do this 3 times;

    I hope this helped! : )
    I found this programm to be a great way of modding decks and test them vs. myself.

    Have fun!

    Re: Play WOW TCG over the Internet with Apprentice

    BIG UPDATE !!!

    Get it from here:
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XKOGSZGN

    You have to do the same thing as last time.

    Download the wow2.mse-set, open it with Magic Set Editor

    Click File > Export > Apprentice.

    Set Code: WW

    Now you should have the new cards available in Apprentice.

    There are 16 new cards:

    Hammer of Justice
    Draconian Deflector
    Lord Grayson Shadowbreaker
    Entangling Roots
    Deadly Poison
    Flash Heal
    Lobotomize
    Face Smash
    Deacon Johanna
    Green Whelp Armor
    Masons Fraternity Ring
    A Donation of Wool
    Love Potion
    Blessing of Wisdom
    Zy'lah Manslayer
    Sacred Duty

    With those you should have all, yet, spoiled cards available to build your decks.

    Note, though, that the cost of cold snap (I made them X) are probably 1+X or 2+X (we don't know it yet for sure). Also note that the rarity of the last mentioned 11 cards is still unknown - I set them all to "Common" !!!

    Have fun! :)

    Re: Play WOW TCG over the Internet with Apprentice

    I notice the cards in Magic set editor have colors to them, yet when I play it in Apprentice they are all brown.  It would be nice if the cards have color in apprentice.  Am I the only one with this problem?  Is there a way to fix it?

    It's the same for me. Maybe there is a problem with converting to Apprentice, but I can't figure it out, sry. :(

    You could also try OCTGN (the guys at wowrealms experiment with that). It's not so simple as Apprentice, but it has real cardimages. I don't know, though, if that will be tolerated by UDE.

    But for testing new decks vs. myself, I prefer the fast Apprentice, anyway.

    Re: Play WOW TCG over the Internet with Apprentice

    I figured out why the colors don't show up in Apprentice.  Apprentice chooses the color by what the symbols are in the casting cost.  So if you want the card to be blue, you need to type 'U' in the casting cost.  This means when the card is in your hand you see the casting cost for Apprentice Teep as 1U.  I personally can ingore the U, if it keeps the color, much easier to play that way.

    Letters to use for colors

    U=blue

    R=Red

    G=Green

    B=Black

    W=White

    only numbers in casting cost = brown

    Also for quests, if you want them to look different than brown, in the type (just below the picture) you need to type 'land'.  On some of the cards I changed I put in 'Land - Quest'

    Obviously you can do whatever you like since you are putting all the effort to make these cards, but at least this gives us answers as to why they were all brown.  Thanks for all your effort in this.

    Re: Play WOW TCG over the Internet with Apprentice

    Thanks a lot for finding this out. :)

    I now made all equipment green, allies red/blue, abilities black, neutral allies white and I left quests brown, because they are brown on the real cards, too. Moreover brown sticks to the cardback of magic cards.

    So here is the new update, then:

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=O52RMXG6

    All cards have tree, flame or drop symbols now, but just don't mind that. In your hand they appear like 1U for Apprentice Teep. Just look at the numbers.
    Moreover the cost of cold snap are set to X2B, which should mean 2+X (I am pretty sure this is correct).

    I also added a new card previewed in a magazine: Windseer Tarus

    If you find any errors in the cards, feel free to post it here. Thanks & have fun!
