Ah, impatience is a virtue. :-)

Been practising with the demo decks for the past 2 days. REALLY looking forward to it. I'll probably end up being recognisable as the only guy there wearing a Pokemon t-shirt (assuming its clean), if not, a Live 8 shirt. Woo! Only...*counts*...12 hours to go!

I'm bringing a load of Edinburgh's card gamers tomorow, so with any luck it should be quite busy.

There should be some product on sale there too :)

Re: Upper Deck UK: Launch Event Locations confirmed!

I managed to finish a starter and booster event (although i was prefering a second starter event). Got 4th in the starter event, and 3rd in the booster (Losing both times to Jimmy... *shakes fist*).

Booster construction is very frantic. The person opposite me, and me both pulled two of the shadow priest heroes, and it's easy to get caught up in trying to play the hero that has the most abilities (in my case the priest) but it's a combo of all the cards (allies, equipment etc) that count.

The wost mistake i made in the whole time, was making the booster sealed deck. I went with priest (had four priest abilities) for Horde, and then in the last two minutes realised how idiotic i was, when i had Warrax, Herrod's Shoulder,  Invunrable Mail, Scarlet Kriss (free to swing), The Shatterer and Brain Hacker, not to mention some of the best allies for the Allied side, i've seen. Four priest abilties (two of which healed), vs 5 equipment, and 8 allies, two of which healed too. Idiot! *slams head on table* (Not only that but i could have put up my allied rogue, with devilsaur leggings, scarlet kriss and eye of rend...)

The sealed starter went well though. Out of the two boosters that came with my mage deck i managed to score another fireball, and one of the best matchups i'd had was mage vs mage (against Jimmy), where each game lasted, no longer than five minutes.

So, in my eyes an excellent game. Free t-shirt (that i cannot EVER wear, Come on! Large only?) some starter box art, the promo pink-haired-gnome ally, and a metal deck box from The Place For Games.

Sadly i didn't score any amazing rares, but one the one epic i pulled (Kaal Soulreaper) that seemed interesting.

Well, the event ended up being as awesome as I thought it'd be.

Starter deck - ended up coming second. w007. Booster sealed - my one win was a bye. =P Saw the brill game between Allan and Iain which decided the tourney. Amazing combo by Iain FTW. Loved it. I would've taken part in the last starter deck, but didn't have enough time/money. But at least 2 loot cards pulled in the day, and I managed to get a lot of them UDE points cards. Woo!

Well, I guess I'm sticking with this game. =D

Re: Upper Deck UK: Launch Event Locations confirmed!

    The Birmingham event was entertaining.

For the starter event I got a Druid starter deck, and was completely thrashed in every game :) Thats partly because of a lack of experience with TCG's - last game I played was MtG in my first year of uni - about 10 years ago.

The worst of them games was against a shaman, who due to luck with his two boosters had 3 grounding totems. In the first turn of the second game he played the allie, that exhusts one of yours when it attacks. In his next turn out game a grounding totem. And as the druid deck had few direct damage spells, none of which I ever drew that was pretty much game over!

The sealed booster went better. Of the 6 heros, I imediatly ditched the hoard and alliance druids! (scared for life as far as that class goes!) And really had a choice of hunter or mage (3 sheeps available :) ). Decided to go with the Hunter.

Lost against a priest - who had some obscene Protector who redies itself when you attack, and then pulled out an even more grim Epic ally!

Absolutly smashed a mage to pieces :)

Then against another hunter I was just unlucky - Was ahead for most of the game, but all my good cards ended up at the bottom of the deck when I completed quests :s

Overall It was fun, and I think I'll keep playing :)

About 30 people playing in tournaments in Manchester with around 50 people total throughput.

Heard Birmingham was a much smaller affair, barely making double digits.

    Don't know about the rest.

Re: Upper Deck UK: Launch Event Locations confirmed!

I think Manchester hit over around 50 players at one point. There were at least tournaments going on during (our) second tournament.

Plus the people just coming in, getting a starter and running off, plus the radioactive night elf...

Re: Upper Deck UK: Launch Event Locations confirmed!

I'm not sure we had more than 10 or 12 people at the Birmingham event. Looks like too many people were busy grinding the instances instead of playing the TCG ;P

The guy from Brum Games Workshop (i went in to buy dice as life counters) was really interested, but couldn't get enough time for dinner to come and look, and what he mentioned was pretty valid. He said he didn't even know it was coming out yet, he checked the WoW site and there was nothing really there, and didn't know there was a dedicated site/forum for WoW. I think alot of people are in that boat, maybe heard something about a WoW TCG but without any kind of main-site linking from the WoW page, alot of people are going to end up never knowing about this.
