Re: Upper Deck UK: Launch Event Locations confirmed!
Time it starts, time it ends, cost to get in, if they are running side events (booster drafts etc) and how much they are, is there going to be prize support, etc.
Mostly the time and cost.

Disclaimer : I don't know any
details on this event. This is all purely educated speculation from someone who has worked with UDE a lot in the past. Hopefuly this is better than having no answer at all ^^; -
It should all start "around 11" as a general rule. Most TPFG tournaments I've attended aim to take registrations at 10:30, and print off pairings at 11. I guess 10 is a good time to aim for, because even if they don't start for an hour afterwards, you'll be standing around with a hundred or so other WoW players, who are all as hyped up as you are. It's a good atmosphere to be waiting around in. ^_^ Finish time is unpredictable, If you pick a time in the evening that you intend to leave, then even if the tournament finishes earlier than you expect, most people end up hanging around a lot later than they'd expect, playing friendly matches, or chatting with new friends they've made.. From what I've gathered (this isn't confirmed by any source), all events will be sealed, so each will be around £15 (based on TPFG's price for 6 booster packs) or around £8 (based on TPFG's price for a sealed starter deck). I don't know how many tournaments there will be, but I would guess at seeing multiple side-events throughout the day. In terms of prize support, you'll be walking out with cards, in-game prizes, real-world-physical-prizes, and experiences that you simply will not get anywhere else. This is simply the first english WoW TCG tournament in the world, and Upper Deck want to reward everyone who makes it possible. On top of that, The Place For Games are renowned for being the most generous and player-friendly tournament organisers in the industry. You're not going to see a penny spared, in terms of venue selection and prize support.

Re: Upper Deck UK: Launch Event Locations confirmed!
It sounds good. The reason i need to know times is, i live in Wolverhampton, around an hour or so's bus ride from Brum. It's two buses to Birmingham, then find the place, then make sure i leave with plenty of time to get the buses home... it's very unwieldly, i was kinda hoping i'd meet some Wolvo people on here, and i could pay them for petrol if they'd let me go with them

Re: Upper Deck UK: Launch Event Locations confirmed!
Don't know how successful you will be in getting information from the
custard factory themselves since its a big indoor market place with,
I'm assuming, rooms and halls available for hire. iirc they have held
concerts there in the past too so I am guessing that there is a
suitably sized hall available. Afraid despite being a brummie native I
have never been to the custard factory so i don't actually know much
about it. I'm very tempted to see if I can find a number for place for
games tomorrow and see if i can contact them since I have a few hours
spare from uni tomorrow. Some additional confirmation from Raymond Fong would probably help too please :)

Re: Upper Deck UK: Launch Event Locations confirmed!
It may just be easier and quicker (although probably slightly more expensive) to catch the train to Brum. The trains are very frequent (assuming no egineering works) since both Virgin trains and Centro run services between Wolves & Brum via Sandwell and Dudley. Just an idea :)

Re: Upper Deck UK: Launch Event Locations confirmed!
I don't think they'll be able to give any definite answers until the day, since nobody knows how many people will show up to the tournament. The attendance might determine how many tournaments are run, as well as the start / finish time.
I'm sure there are other factors we can't appreciate, but if the details aren't printed on their site, then I'd assume all the details to be "normal" for a TCG pre-release.

Re: Upper Deck UK: Launch Event Locations confirmed!
I've been watching this thread for a while, as I'm thinking of attending the Brum event.
A couple of questions though: Will there be an opportunity to learn the game at the event? I assume so, seeing as it is a brand new game and really no-one has much experience with it. I've played a couple of games with the sample decks, read the rules and kept an eye on the rules questions forums, but will there be a chance to play a few games without the pressures of a tournament? (Practice rounds, so to speak!) I'm not confident that I know all the rules off the top of my head, and beyond the sample cards, I've not looked at any of the other cards. Surely those who have played extensively with the sample decks will have a bit of an advantage should they choose a mage or warrior to start!
Also, will we be able to buy packs at the event? (Again, seeing as it's a promotional thing, I'd assume so!) I'd like to grab a few starter packs and boosters.
And to answer the trains query - the nearest station to the Custard Factory is Birmingham Moor Street. The Sandwell & Dudley/Wolves line runs to New Street - it's about a 5 minute walk from New Street to Moor Street, so if you don't want to walk as far, see if you can get on a train that stops at Smethwick, you can then change at Smethwick Galton Bridge to get on the Moor Street line. (Don't know how this will work on a Saturday though)

Re: Upper Deck UK: Launch Event Locations confirmed!
Yes there will be an opportunity to learn the game at the event (I believe). There are two main events running, one is more aimed for beginners and those who want to learn the rules, and another one which is aimed for more serious players who enjoy more competition in their games.
Either way, going from my experiences of Magic pre-release events, pre-releases are generally laid back and enjoyable events.
I can't remember the exact street release of WoW TCG, but if thats not until the week after this weekend's event then it is doubtful you will be able to buy any product, although some people may sell any booster prizes/cards etc that they win.
Hope that helps :)

Re: Upper Deck UK: Launch Event Locations confirmed!
Ok I've got more information regarding the event now, since I have just phoned the organisers.
There will be two events running as I just mentioned, one is a sealed deck event using a starter deck and 2 boosters (i think) and the other is a sealed event using 6 boosters. Tornaments will be run in a flight format of either 8 or 16 players all day, starting as soon as a given flight sign-up is full. The first of these is estimated to start about 10.30am.
The actual location within the Custard Factory of the event is in the Old Library. Unfortunately he was unable to give estimates of cost of an individual price, but these are probably easily approximated by looking at the pre-order costs on some websites for the product to be used, and maybe adding a few pounds on top for the prize support costs.
Hope this finally answers people's queries regarding the event and I'll see people there on Saturday.

Re: Upper Deck UK: Launch Event Locations confirmed!
Great work, Vortrakk.
You say this will be running 'all day'?
I've found that I'm double-booked on the morning, but I'd like to attend a little later on, did the organisers give any indication on how long this might run for? (Possibly as long as there is demand?)
Of course, I don't expect to be able to play, given my late arrival, but even to spectate, and learn the game a little would be a bonus.

Re: Upper Deck UK: Launch Event Locations confirmed!
Pretty much yes. Normally these sort of events run for most of the day to about late afternoon, depending on demand.
The way this is organised is that there are "flights" which are essentially tournaments which you sign up for, and as soon as one flight is full with the required number of players the tournament starts, and another flight sign-up is opened. This enables people to play in multiple events (although you have to pay for each flight you play in) and also enables people like yourself who arrive later to be able to play as well. This is my understanding of it at least, with my experience from playing in Magic tournaments and flights.
The key factor will be how long each flight lasts, since I'm not sure if they are running a fixed number of rounds or what......But i think you should be able to get to play something at least :)

Re: Upper Deck UK: Launch Event Locations confirmed!
As long as my role in the tourney's over/got a space in between plays
(i'm not an amazing player, so...) i won't mind playing a game or two
with you to go over the rules.
Thanks for the train info, and start time. I'll just get an A-Z out and check which way to go to Moor Street. I don't mind taking the train (it should be quicker) i just don't want to hang around in Wolvo for any period of time, especially in the evening. Depending how it goes i might go home around 2-4ish, unless i can convince any kind soul to give me a lift.
And yeah i did play Pokemon back in the day. I really did like the rules to that game.
