You must not have seen a game die before.
They keep releasing product all the way to the end. In fact the last thing that typically happens is a set is released and then they close the doors. With preorders and R+D work and distrubution channels already laid its more cost effective to shove dead product out the door then it is to just drop it. This is usually preceeded by a complete lack of communication from anybody representative of the producing company, indicating that they've moved all staff personel off the project ( or just flat out fired them ).
I'm not saying thats what happened here as I will let you draw your own conclusions, but I am saying that a new set coming out is not an indicator of a collectible games continued longevity.
