12 Honor Alliance team vs Amalars (Repost) -session report and updates-
*I moved this to the party list forum*
I saw some talk of a triple Murloc team vs a triple Amalar team, and decided to playtest another 12 honor team vs trip Amalars. I didn’t have anyone to play against, thus this is me vs me, so take that for what it’s worth.
Here are the teams:
Triple Amalars. Red Amalar using Sulfuras and Intercept. Green Amalar using Sulfuaras and Dodge. The 3rd Amalar will sit on the VP and use health pot and dodge. 29 honor.
Yanna, Yanna, and Marlowe. Blue Yanna with Starfire and Swiftness Pot. Green Yanna with Starfire and Deathblow. Marlowe with Shadowburn and Swiftness Pot. (Note: In retrospect, Marlowe and at least 1 of the Yanna’s should have had Mana Pots instead.) 12 honor.
The goal is for the Alliance team to take advantage of their ranged attacks allowing them to hit first, and get 3 kills as quickly as possible. They will ignore the VP spot, not worry too much about getting killed (within reason), use their Starfires to weaken the Amalars, and their Shadowburn to finish them off.
On the first tick all characters stepped up 2 spaces, basically forming straight lines in front of the spawn points.
At the start of tick 2, red Amalar used an Intercept to move forward and tick up blue Yanna. The green Yanna then Starfired him for 5 damage. The green Amalar stepped up and finished of the green Yanna, and Marlow hit the red Amalar with a Shadowburn, finishing him off and reactivating Shadowburn. The 3rd Amalar stepped up to the VP spot and ticked up once. 5-4 Horde.
Tick 3. At the start of tick 3 the green Amalar was in the ruins on the Horde side of the VP. Blue Yanna hit him with her Starfire for 6 damage. Marlowe attacked with Shadowburn and green Amalar dodged rolling 3 defense. Marlow only rolled 2 hits, but due to the hill, got lucky with a re-roll and crit taking Amalar down to 2 health and exhausting Shadowburn. Not good. 6-4 Horde.
Tick 4. Red Amalar spawns, moves up 2 and ticks 1. Though Marlowe’s crit would hit freshly spawned red Amalar for extra damage, he decides to go for the sure kill and takes out green Amalar with a Shadow Bolt, then using a Swiftness pot to back the hell up. 8-7 Alliance.
Tick 5. Red Amalar steps forward to the ruins and targets blue Yanna and kills her with Annihilator, gaining a -1 move counter. 13-8 Horde.
Tick 6. The 3rd Amalar activates, ticks up 1, and stays on the VP. (Note: Marlowe is pretty far out of range.) 14-8 Horde.
Tick 7. Green Yanna spawns, moves up two, hits the 3rd Amalar with her character Starfire for 5 dice. Amalar dodges, rolling 2/3 successes and takes 4 damage. (Note: I’m assuming the 3rd Amalar who is chilling on the VP, and was supposed to activate on tick 7, still ticks up to 9 for not attacking, even though he used the Dodge which ticked him up to 8). 15-9 Horde.
Tick 8. Lots of activations here. Nature’s Grasped red Amalar moves up 1, and ticks up 1. Blue Yanna spawns, moves up 2, rolls 5 dice (Starfire) against the 3rd Amalar on the VP and scores 3 hits taking him down to 3 health. Marlowe moves up 2 spaces, within range of a 6 dice Shadow Bolt! Marlowe rolls 6, hits on 5 dice, and takes out the 3rd Amalar for the win!
Three kills, 8 ticks. Hopefully I didn’t screw up any rules.
The argument here might be that though this Alliance party is strong against the weak resist Amalars, it won’t be strong against other teams. While this is true, you’ll notice that there is really only one mandatory ABC per Alliance character, leaving your sideboard wide open to deal with other matchups. You can throw in some cards to help with tanking, physical damage, pets, healing, DOTs, etc. You could also try replacing a Yanna with an Anchorite Cristia, and using the Starfire and Marlowe’s Shadow Bolt to soften up the Amalars, and use priest spells like Mind Blast, Mind Flay, Shadow Word: Pain, or Smite as your finishers.
With the common use of Epics and equipment cards, team honor costs tend to get jacked up pretty far, making it interesting to take another look at 12 honor teams.

Re: 12 Honor Alliance team vs Amalars (Repost) -session report and updates-
Just tried this match again. I used Dodge on all three Amalars, and do to the low health of the Alliance teams, and in an effort keep honor down, I didn't use any Sulfuras. Instead I put charge with two of the Amalars, and a Boomstick on the Amalar that would sit on the VP. (Note: The Dodge ABCs were quite helpful... maybe a Sulfuras or two may have been a better choice than the Charges. It is harder to kill a 6 health mini than I thought.)
I gave Mana Pots to all three Alliance characters, Starfire to both Druids, and Shadowburn to the Warlock.
On tick ten the Alliance won, 12-15.

Re: 12 Honor Alliance team vs Amalars (Repost) -session report and updates-
I'd be interested to see how a 12 honor team does against any other team with higher than 1 magic resist. Say, Velen Wall or Zoo maybe? I like low honor teams, but it seems to be effective and stay low honor, you may have to push to 16 honor.
I'm testing triple Wilton actually, and it's quite interesting. I don't think it's competitive against big guns yet, but it's interesting.

Re: 12 Honor Alliance team vs Amalars (Repost) -session report and updates-
I'll be interested to hear what you're doing with Wilton.
I tried another variation of the 12 honor Alliance team:
Yanna
Mana Pot
Starfire
Marlowe
Mana Pot
Shadowburn
Anchorite Cristia
Mind Blast
Shadow Word: Pain
My 'king' Amalar used a Dodge and a Boomstick, while the other two Amalars used Sulfuras and Dodge. I find the Dodges to be quite helpful in keeping the weenie team from 2-shotting the Amalars.
Took until tick 14 for the Alliance to win (the Amalars were only 2 honor away from winning), but even though this was a close game, I still gotta say that 12 honor is friggin easy to get (against Amalars anyway).
Cristia's weakness as the 'finisher' member of the warband, is that when she uses up her ABCs, she doesn't have a strong attack like Marlowe (the 'finisher' in the previous warband) does. Her strength I suppose is that she adds some diversity to the group vs other parties.
Some thoughts on the ABCs I used:
Boomstick is nice for the 'king' so he can try and stay on the VP spot the whole time. Dodge makes the Ally team have to take three attacks instead of two to kill an Amalar. Mind Blast is a nice card... didn't get it to crit, but if it had, it would have forced an Amalar to exhaust the Sulfuras (assuming they'd allready dodged). SW: Pain is nice to drop on the 'king'. It does a lot of damage to Amalars.
In all 3 match-ups that I've tried with these various teams, I find that the battle always ends up right next to the Ally spawn point, which is of course a huge advantage for the Allys. It takes the Horde forever to get over there when they respawn, and my Yannas can respawn and immediately drop Starfires, often finishing off an Amalar.
One more thought on versatility vs other bands... As Steelwing pointed out, this team is not going to do nearly as well agaisnt higher resist teams. You'd really have to throw in some physical damage somewhere. Jhuroon could add a little melee damage. Yanna could go feral form for some melee output. Another way around the resists is using DOTs, which all 3 classes have access too.

Brom: Cristia is an excellent place to put Smite. That plus an Agony and Corruption might let you beat higher resist teams.

Isgee is, by definition, a snob.
