    Renewal of Life Combo deck

Again I'm looking at doing some kind of stupid combo deck and am looking for insights and opinions. Currently the deck I am looking at revolves around the new BoJ ring, Renewal of Life.

Hero - Marta Spires (easily negotiable)

    4x Grundum, Trove Guardian
    4x Gromble the Apt
    3x Weldon Barov
    2x Pappy Ironbane
    4x Vanndar Stormpike
    2x Doomwalker
    1x Greench
1x Ishannah, High Priestess of the Aldor

    3x Taste of Divinity
    4x Lose Control
    3x Omens of Terror
    3x Mental Anguish
    4x Melt Face

    4x Renewal of Life
    3x Stormpike Insignia

    4x Alterac Valley

    4x Donation of Wool
    4x Manhunt
    3x Ring of Blood: Brokentoe

    Sideboard:
    2x Abyss Walker's Boots
    1x Mental Anguish
    2x Pappy Ironbane
    2x Freezing Band
    3x Bringer of Death

Basic premise is to dump Vanndar Stormpike into the discard pile using a combination of find treasure and quests. Using Gromble you drop the Renewal of Life on turn 3. Turn 4 you pop it, put Vanndar into play, then blow up 3/4 resources to hopefully seal the game.

I'm looking for any advice that people may have that could help out.

    EDIT: Updated with suggested changes:

Hero - Remba, Abess of Ash

    3x Grundum, Trove Guardian
    4x Gromble the Apt
    3x Weldon Barov
    2x Pappy Ironbane
    4x Vanndar Stormpike
    2x Doomwalker
    1x Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider
1x Ishannah, High Priestess of the Aldor

    3x Taste of Divinity
    4x Lose Control
    4x Crushing Shadows
    3x Spiritual Domination
    4x Mist of Corrosion
    3x Mental Anguish

    4x Renewal of Life

    4x Alterac Valley
    4x Donation of Wool
    4x Question of Gluttony
    3x Ring of Blood: Brokentoe

    Sideboard:
    1x Spiritual Domination
    1x Razak Ironside
    1x Pappy Ironbane
    3x Freezing Band
    3x Bringer of Death

    hrm could work :)
    but what about
martina the mind... and than spellunker u already have the tools to fill your graveyard so he would be a nice second win condition

Re: Renewal of Life Combo deck

i dont think spelunker would work, in the end spelunker would be like a 3/3 i dont hink more, since the strategy is put a fatty in play early on. But i think u should put more table and ally control instead of discarding, since ur enemy will put allies in the board as well

Re: Renewal of Life Combo deck

I completely forgot about the fact that by discardign their hand they'd fill up their graveyard with men too!

However, if i was going to stick with that, I could swap to the Traitor Dwarf Priest and use Spiritual Domination to bring their allies back. I suppose this could be my sideboard instead of abyss walkers.

Having 3 specific allies into your dicard pile by turn 3 will be quite tricky. Although would be a good win. I think i'm more inclined to stick with the the Vanndar "no resources to respond to this" approach. Let me know if you have any luck with the 3 card combo tho!

u can always mulligan for those but...nah i like more the idea of putting fatties in...a soon greench or varimarthas is a total killer.

Btw ur idea of making it a traitor and rebrith (not the card duh!) the stronger ally in the oponent's graveyard before the ring pops its a really great idea, plus u can save it if he has only weak allies so u can make him discard another fattie so u can bring it back up

Re: Renewal of Life Combo deck

I've changed it round a little bit now. Decided that the use of Spiritual Domination to take advantage of my opponent discarding his strong allies was much better than gaining access to Manhunt and having to use Abyss Walker's Boots. Also, gaining access to Prince Kael'thas adds to the resource denial making it harder for the opponent to answer on turn 4/5.

Hero - Remba, Abess of Ash

    3x Grundum, Trove Guardian
    4x Gromble the Apt
    3x Weldon Barov
    2x Pappy Ironbane
    4x Vanndar Stormpike
    2x Doomwalker
    1x Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider
1x Ishannah, High Priestess of the Aldor

    3x Taste of Divinity
    4x Lose Control
    4x Crushing Shadows
    3x Spiritual Domination
    4x Mist of Corrosion
    3x Mental Anguish

    4x Renewal of Life

    4x Alterac Valley
    4x Donation of Wool
    4x Question of Gluttony
    3x Ring of Blood: Brokentoe

    Sideboard:
    1x Spiritual Domination
    1x Razak Ironside
    1x Pappy Ironbane
    3x Freezing Band
    3x Bringer of Death

I want to try and squeeze Mikael the Blunt in as a way to combat rush decks. The UK is usually a control orientated meta, so I wanted to try and tech is appropriately - perhaps easy to swap Spritual Domination for Freezing bands from the side.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

    Cheers

Will you have plenty of 'Honor Counters' on cards you control when Vanndar hits the field?

Assuming this goes off on 3, you only need 3-4, which is enough to wipe a resource base.

Re: Renewal of Life Combo deck

I prefer the Horde Arena 1-turn-kill approach to Renewal of Life.  I've heavily tested an Emek version that utilizes Gladiator Boum x4/G.Zimo x4/Broll Bearmantle/Rehgar and a few other generally cheap and useful arena allies like G.Skumm and G.Dorn to finish the game in one fell swoop.  I also include Lokholar and Dethvir to help limit the opponent's options if you can't quite get the kill in one turn.

As for the rest of the deck, I chose to include the Arena graveyard-filler quests and also a few copies of Sunken Treasure and You, Robot to ensure that the Renewal triggers as easily as possible.  Random cards like Abyss Walker's Boots and Berserker Bracers pose an immediate threat to this archetype, so I also include Mist of Corrosion and Talisman of the Horde for steady, if not reliable, omni-removal during the setup stage.

I chose Emek specifically for access to the Undead-only cards, his synergistic flip, and Searing Light.  Undercity and/or Cannibalize is a great way to gobble up and prevent any big allies that your opponent might discard early.

I probably won't have the guts to actually bring this deck to Realms since it is highly luck-based, but good luck to anyone else that gives this variation a try.  You'll definately have some fun!

Re: Renewal of Life Combo deck

That king of the Blood Elves guy would be pretty good too with a Blood Elf hero, since they probably won't have enough resources to try and push through more than 2 abilities which will both be interrupted.

Re: Renewal of Life Combo deck

I built the original Marta Spires list a few weeks back to play around with it. and it did well at first when people had no idea what i was doing. I changed the list around a bit to try make it more stable, I added battlecast pants as making the ring at instant speed at the end of their turn is a massive boost, as making in my turn 4 or possibly 3 assuming gromble is in play, gives them plenty of time to answer it.

I played against a very strange deck which was a shammy deck which revolved around ging long and sparking for fatal in one turn, the deck ran the quest that shuffles your grave into your deck so that really hurts as they do it in response to you activating the ring.

My list also ended up having ishannah being removed and having the grinch count being doubled to make sure i found it cause getting either that or doomwalker into play is a massive win-con from what i saw.

Also with my list having no vandar i was able to remove the stormpike insignia and the alterac valley for other quests and some other abilities or allys (this can be to the players taste).

In the battle ground i played this deck i went 2-1 I lost to black-ice in the final 2-0 purely as it has answers to all my cards and allys if i get them out. Agains kil'zin i went 2-0 as he was unable to answer my ring eraly and i got a grinch and doomwalker into play on 5 and managed to use the tastes and melt face to kill off his board and locked him out in game 1 and game 2 was similar but it just took a bit longer as i couldnt find the ring quickly and was missing the decent allys.

Against the shammy deck it went 2-1. Game 1 i managed to get the ring off early and rush him before he got most of his equiptment out to keep healing, Game 2 he got all his healing stuff out and the game went long and he sparked for game. and in game 3 time was called and i managed to make grundam on 1 and gromble and grundum on 2 which did enough dmage before he was able to heal it off.

Overall i like the deck but i think you need a surefire way to make the ring stick my way was battlecast pants which i know isnt foolpoof but makes it a bit harder to stop the ring. I was thinking of running this list for the realm champ on nov 15th but i belive there will be too many ring decks out there as this is the first major comp where they will be legal.

I will continue testing and update agains other decks, I have daspien, urrth, merrick and a few other deck to play against including the infamous jankyD played by lammy
