    Summon Greater Water Elemental questions

Important for me to know before Boston.

Does Summon GWE readies if Jaina dies? Just want to confirm the answer I received this week that the GWE is *removed from game* upon Jaina's death and thus is never destroyed, thus the ABC doesn't ready.

Follow-up question in case I'm wrong: If it *does* ready upon Jaina's death, how does this work out if she has Viper Sting on her? Is the debuffed destroyed before her pet, or after? (This is probably a useless question, since I assume the card doesn't even ready.)

Wow, Jaina can die? For serious?

I actually had this same question at DMF: Turin. It was ruled/appealed that it does ready. I suspected it shouldn't, but wasn't too interested in arguing against myself.

Fine, fine, she did die once...

Re: Summon Greater Water Elemental questions

We had this question and a few others come up at RC - Winterspring and it was ruled that it would not ready.  The justification came from this 305.2, which I am sure you have all read, but I will post it here anyways:

Each pet is a character and has a clock, which is initially set to match its master’s clock after all summon costs have been paid. Each pet takes individual turns separate from its master. However, a pet is removed from play if its master is destroyed. Each pet has the same faction as its master. The honor of a pet is 0.
Pets follow all character rules except for the following:

Given that the rules never said that the pet is destroyed before it is RMP, it was logically concluded that the card does not ready as the ABC trigger did not occur.

Re: Summon Greater Water Elemental questions

It does not ready when Jaina is destroyed, because its trigger is its own destruction.

    OCR:

Summon Greater Water Elemental, T0, Lady Jaina Proudmoore
    Instant Pet—Elemental, Frost, 1A 1R 1H
    Lady Jaina Proudmoore Only
    Frostbolt [T2R2M3] (Frost)
    [Crit]: Damage +1.
Wave of Elementals: When Greater Water Elemental is destroyed, ready this card.

When it is removed from play due to Jaina's destruction, its trigger condition is not met.

    Cheers!

Did they just change that?  For some reason I remember a pet being destroyed when it's master leaves play.  I just looked it up and am glad I did.

    Anyways.

Re: Summon Greater Water Elemental questions

I got another question which i need clarification, At the start of my turn, at tick 1, I move Jaina 2 spaces and summon GWE and my Jaina will be at tick 2, so that means the GWE clock will still be at tick 1 right? and then my opponents turn to move, after that, still at tick 1 when the priority is passed to me .. can i move my GWE?

Re: Summon Greater Water Elemental questions

You only tick up when you're finished with your turn and have taken no other actions to advance your clock. When you summon the GWE, you're still at 1, so it will be on 1 when it enters play and you can move it the next time you could move any of your tick 1 pieces.

That's about as massive a fail as it gets..
Laziest judge you'll ever meet. No, really.

Ok thanks. Btw, how about Kaustron + Call Old Bones, same routine ?

Re: Summon Greater Water Elemental questions

Yes the same works for Kaustron (assuming he already played a pet before).

Just remember that every figure who's personal clock matches the master clock may take a turn. So if you can play a pet for 0 ticks, and get his personal clock to match the master clock, it may take a turn during that tick.
