Re: The Raid Deck Thread! NEW HOMEBUILT RAIDS

    Hey Kobradin,

Awesome work! I'm not a big competitive player either but the raid decks are great fun. One raid deck per year is just not enough though. This is an awesome way to revive a whole bunch of cards and have lots of fun doing it.
We just need UDE to make some FLAG tokens :)

Re: The Raid Deck Thread! NEW HOMEBUILT RAIDS

We are using the Warsong Gulch Flags on UDE points cards or I have noticed that the Earthstorm Diamond UDE cards have a flag on the back too.  If you buy booster packs, you should be able to get a set of flags.

These homegrown raids are fun, scaleable, and very challenging.  Stealth comes into play as a great keyword that helps you get to the flags around the protectors.

    Bump.

Hey JadefalconAvenger and Rezaziel, you guys do a lot of raiding...any chance your raid groups could run some playtests on the homebuilt raids that Yellowbrains and I are working on?  Looking for some feedback.

We just did another playtest of the Orgrimmar city raid, against 6 raiders...it was pretty fun.

    @Kobradin

My group of weekly raiders just this week tried out a custom raid with the rules set that you and Yellowbrains created. I wanted to say that we had alot of fun, it was def fun seeing there faces as cards they knew well came into play as Bosses.

One thing that I wanted to mention is that I had a rather easy time crushing them, due mostly to the flags. Our raiding decks are not built to stealth through anything (for it is rarely needed in the pre-made raid scenarios).

With Naxx about to come out, I have not yet made any of the decks that you have created on the start page. However, looking to do so once Naxx becomes a bore.

Just a little about our play group, we only raid, our decks are pure raid decks, and bc of this I saw they were slightly gimped for the custom raid deck rule set. However, it was awesome to have new content to work with, and I cant wait to see the new decklists you two create.

I made some reference cards that sum up the raid rules and list out what the flags do and I've found that this really motivated the raiders to take and keep flags (in fact in the last raids I've done, the most flags I've ever had was 2..) I'll post the cheat sheets to the custom raid thread. One thing that the raiders should keep in mind is that you don't need an attack strength to be able to take a flag so even unequiped heroes can grab them. Also, using the flag will keep it exhausted, so even if the boss gets it back, he has to wait a turn until it's available.

As Kobradin said, stealth and long range are much more useful in these raids.

    Which raid did you try?

Re: The Raid Deck Thread! NEW HOMEBUILT RAIDS

Yellowbrains (raid boss) is a bit hamstrung by having me on the raiding team usually, since I know how important it is to have the low drop protectors and importance of the flags.  This is something the raiders will learn as they do these raids, you MUST control the flags at almost all costs.  I've taken damage and played instant abilities to keep flags out of the hands of the raid boss.  Only 1 flag per raider means that the raiders must work as a team to get the flags and keep the flags.  I've told the raid crew how important it is, the cheat sheet will really help remind them of this...and if it doesn't then a nice board wipe will learn dem stinkin' raiders real fast.

I still feel the weak point of these city raids is the lack of interrupts, lack of removal, and the nasty abilities that some of the raid decks pack.  But overall, I'm pretty happy with the progress and scaleability.  Bring on the Blood Elves of Silvermoon City, I'm not scared!

    Re: The Raid Deck Thread!

It's been a while since I have posted in this thread! Since my message does have to do with raiding, and Naxxramas is being released soon, I feel its an appropriate post.

    Dedicated Few
Quite a few people are excited about this format. It gives me something new to try with my raiding, but as I put together a Paladin I was kind of iffy about the whole thing... but I still have not given this format a try. I should really try and write a guide to raiding. It is something we can keep in our club records, but I would have no problem posting it here.

1x Maximum of each card... on opposite ends of the spectrum, I have heard people say "this defeats the purpose of designing a deck because I can throw in almost anything and win", which in my opinion is not entirely true. At this point, with 10 expansions, we are well enough into the card game that different decks can come out of this format, and still be unique.

    ..... a Ban list.
I have seen some of the cards in Scourgewar and some of the Naxxramas treasure pack and I am quite concerned with the level of power creep the game is arriving at. So I am deciding that if I pilot a raid boss, I don't want to see scourgewar cards for Onyixa's Lair, Molten Core, or Magtheridon's Lair. Here is that list for reference...

    Re: The Raid Deck Thread!

    I was thinking.

Now with the mend allies, would it be possible to make a Mend-based raid healer?

Perhaps Resto Shaman + a few inspiring presence allies. . . Mana tide totem surviving for just one turn with two mend allies in play would be drawing three cards, and it would be nuts if it stuck around longer than that. Natural Alignment and the Echo of the Elements, and some purges, chain heals, and maybe even some burn.

I don't really doubt that the overall best option would still be a holy priest. But sticking with only the absolute best deck solutions can be boring.

Im not saying that its too easy. I mean that dying because we didn't kill Illidan in 6 turns to an AOE that one-shots several heroes is a lame way to be killed by a raid boss, considering that in all likelyhood he wasn't doing anything but standing around healing up until then. Atleast losing to ragnaros involved heroes getting clubbed in the face for ludicrous amounts of damage.

It seems you haven't played the actual MMO, have you now? In almost every raid encounter there's the good ol' 'enrage timer'. When that time runs out, boss goes berserk and wipes out the raid from his doorstep in three seconds at most. I'd say this is not even quite as hateful as that, since you've all stuff like fire resistance, Darkest Before The Light etc., to keep the gaming up quite a bunch of turns after the fifth betrayer event.

When I was first introduced to the raids, I just loooooved it. After I had read through all of the raid booklets and learned a few tricks, I started playing the raid boss, and always tried to make something fun up for the raid group.

I tend to play some awesome and unique when doing Black Temple. If the raiding players are not prepared, I ram 'em out of the temple in no time, this is what once happened:

I casually play out Crushing Shadows like at turn 5-6 while I'm at Teron, and it comes through as the counter-mage is all tapped for playing Tomb of Ice and Blizz.

I happen to discard Doomwalker from the warlocks' hand, which was laughable in the first place.

Few turns later the bomb dropped, as I played Spiritual Domination, and took control of Doomwalker. :D

Yeah, I play cards such as Spiritual Domination, Death Trap, Serpent Form, and stuff like that in the raid deck to make it soooo much fun when I play it. 'Kay, I'll exhaust my hero, and your Bolvar dies to the trap!' :P

I also used to play 2x Kael'Thas and 2x Lady Vashj in the minion deck, but that was just too much overrun to get Kael after Naj'entus died. >.<

I have faced the ravages of time, the curse of nightmares, and the mists of sorcery...
    What weapons do you bring?
