As an avid MMO raider myself, raid decks are one of my favorite parts of the game.  That means that this is my new favorite thread!

I think our R&D Team has done an outstanding job ensuring all the bosses have powers in the TCG that very closely match what they do in the MMO.  I remember being struck by how accurate the representations were the first time I read through the Black Temple boss powers.

Along those lines, if you agree with that, wait until you see Naxxramas.  And not just their powers, but the artwork is pretty cool too.    :)

Ok, time to get back to work.  "No more play?"   ;)

    Common Raid Terminology

Mob- Like the mob movies of the 1940s, a mob is a group of bad guys that move around in a cluster and attack a player or players. It is good to get rid of mobs because, like the mobs of the 1940s, they hurt. When they are done attacking, they wonder back to their original patrol point (hehe).

I always thought the term "mob" was short for either "Monster or Beast" or "Mobile Object" and that the mobsters reference just happened to be a fortunate coincidence.  I could be wrong, though.

I agree about the mob thing.

Also glad to see you lyke mah thred

    Re: The Raid Deck Thread!

I have heard many interpretations of mob and I am most familiar with the one I gave, but I have heard the one about mobile object and monster/beast. Mobs like to kill you though! then run away as a unit. I find it amusing.

I am looking forward to Naxxramas. I love the artwork in the card game, and in the MMO I am just hitting Naxxramas as a tree healer. Time to go learn what all the bosses do... All the bosses in the mmo are in the card game, right?

it means that my brother knows how to play but isn't on these forums so i can know my weaknesses and my strenghts to beat my brother (he doesn't know a raid team needs more than one player)

Is BT easier as Horde or Alliance. Horde, I see the appeal of an Arcane Torrent with Sol's Belongings but Alliance does have that great Myriam Inspire Engine (though BT has endless ways to AOE). Any suggestions?

    Re: The Raid Deck Thread!

I'd like to get some ideas for DMF Boston on how to beat Black Temple with 3-people.  Anyone who has been able to do this, what did your teams consist of?

One idea I had was tuning the current Warlock control deck to take on the raid by switching it to Affliction and using the Curse of Exhaustion combo.  Even if the Warlock sacrifices his turns to keep replaying Curse, it gives your other two team members a free turn.

    I would suspect alliance.

    1.) Myriam
    2.) Fallingstar/Grace of Elune/Tank

off the top of my head.

    Molten Core Testing |

I am attempting to three man Ragnaros and am finding it a challenge. I recorded some data and found it interesting how the Paladin tank’s health changed throughout the 11 or so turns the raid took place. During the simulation, the raid team (Restoration Druid, Protection Paladin, Frost Mage) completed 47% of the “hard” “full clear” mode.

The problem came down to the original problem against Ragnaros- trash cleanup. During the first six turns or so of Molten Core, it may be difficult to get very much on the board. I like to call these turns preparation turns. Players prepare their gear, get some stuff on the board and deal some damage. After approximately turn 7, the game gets interesting. Damage is being dealt, big hitters are hitting the board and the game begins to swing in one parties favor (or the bosses favor). The tank “tanked” beautifully. I am going to post the deck list.

The great thing about this deck is that it isn’t an expensive one; any aspiring tank or raider can pick it up/order it easily because most cards are common/uncommon. Off the top of my head, tanking cards included:

    Thud!
    Courageous Defense

Here is a graphical analysis of the Paladin’s health for those that like visual information: it can be seen that the Paladin’s health increased and decreased in cycles, then drops off to 0. This drop off is the problem that needs to be avoided. Trash mobs began attacking the tank faster than what the healer could heal (not to mention the healer was running dry on cards). To correct the problem, we can look at the healer’s cards or reinforce mob/trash removal (the mage).

Ragnaros has been three manned! in the following order [Mage, Paladin, Druid]. Water elemental kept the field clear of trash and assisted my personal attack mob with combating Majordomo Executus. After that, we made quick work of Ragnaros. The tank lasted longer than expected- but had mobs ganging up on him. Had they chosen different targets the tank may have survived; but the Druid was popping tranquility often. Red represents round 2 of testing for the same Paladin. The X-Axis does not determine how many turns the game lasted, but rather how many times the Paladin's health was affected.

    Re: The Raid Deck Thread!

    Sample Tank
(participated in downing 3man Onyxia and 3man Molten Core

    Hero:
    Thoros the Savior

    Abilities (24)
    4x Atonement
    4x Courageous Defense
    4x Glimmer of Hope
    4x Hammer of Justice
    4x Inspiring Light
    4x Thud!

    Allies (12)
    4x Aknot Whetstone
    4x Darbun Steppeheart
    4x Kirga Earthguard

    Equipment (12)
    4x Brutal Gladiator's Greatsword
    4x Krol Blade
    2x Slayer's Waistguard
    2x Viking Hammer (substitute slot)

    Quest (12)
    4x Forces of Jaedenar
    4x Orders from Lady Vashj
    4x The Sigil of Krasus

Utilizing AGM, the Greatswords are great if you can pop them out on turn one (try to draw and mulligan for them sometimes). Krol blade proves its worth as a great, cheap weapon and Slayer's Waistguard provides a little defense and a nice little kick. Viking Warhammer is in there as filler.

The tank is designed to take hits from the boss (or biggest damage dealer), so not too many allies are required. Blood Knight Kyria is always a staple, but I substituted her out for early game protection (Aknot). Thud!, Hammer of Justice and Attonement allow the exhaustion of the boss, preventing him from doing dastadly deeds. Inspiring light offers card draw, healing, and Courageous Defense offers card draw and begins the protection process. Anyone wanna revamp it?

With the release of Fields of Honor I think warriors have more options in terms of cleaning up trash, druid tanks, too. Here is a deck of mine that I have been using, it is great as an interrupter of big game (big abilities) and good at damage.

    Sample Trash Cleanup/DPS Hybrid

Hero- Vor'na the Disciplined/Black Ice Fizzlefreeze

    Abilities (22)
    4x Cold Front
    4x Heartburn
    4x Mystic Denial
    4x Nether Fracture
    2x The More, the Scarrier
    4x Touch of Ice

    Allies (21)
    4x Erindae Firestrider
    3x Jack Coor
    4x Magistrix Valthin
    3x Shadala
    3x Water Elemental
    4x Zi'mo

    Quests (16)
    4x A question of Gluttony
    4x Forces of Jaedenar
    4x Orders from Lady Vashj
4x The Ring of Blood: The Blue Brothers

This deck has plenty of trash cleanup, but like all of my other decks- it needs to be upgraded, and even then fine tuned. My decks are made from what is available to me, and already I want more of 'The More, the Scarrier' and to take out Jack Coor for more DPS, maybe ferocity. We could probably cut one 'mystic denial', remove 'touch of ice' and substitute it with new cards from fields of honor. We can probably take out 'cold front' and replace it with that new cost 4 "you can't interrupt my interrupt" card.

    Re: The Raid Deck Thread!

I like making decks cheap not just for the cost- I enjoy the challenge of lower level decks so that they can become more available to the club here on campus that is starting out with World of Warcraft. This rogue deck doesn't get too serious, but it is a good basis to form derivatives (sister decks). Oh- it also DPS's pretty well for raids.

    Hero
    Sinthya Flabberghast

    Abilities (29)
    4x Deathblow
    4x On the Brink
    4x Pernicious Poison
    3x Pilfer
    4x Slay the feeble
    3x Surge of Adrenaline
    3x Unbalance

    Allies (16)
    3x "Eyeball" Jones
    3x Johnny Rotten
    3x Offender Gora
    3x Seamus Somerset
    4x Skronk Skullseeker

    Equipment (9)
    2x Black Amnesty
    3x Bloodsea Brigand's Vest
    4x Whispering Blade of Slaying

    Quest (12)
    4x Orders from Lady Vashj
    4x Tabards of the Illidari
4x The Ring of Blood: the Warmaul Chamion

    Re: The Raid Deck Thread!

    Food for thought: Naxxramas Suspicions

Here are my suspicions of the Naxxramas raid deck:

    Anub'Rekhan 5   7
    Grand Widow Faerlina 8 12
    Maexxna 9 14
    Noth the Plaguebringer 10 15
    Heigan the Unclean 11 17
    Loatheb 25 37
    Instructor Razuvious 12 19
    Gothik the Harvester 3 5
    The Four Horseman 3 4
    Patchwerk 16 24
    Grobbulus 12 18
    Gluth 14 21
    Thaddius 37 56
    Sapphiron 16 24
    Kel'Thuzad 18 27

number may indicate a health range. Posting to possibly prepare us for the slaughter that is Naxxramas:

Anub'Rekhan (5-7 health?)- According to the raid, Anub will be a tough opening fight. There are adds which spawn in the game, so we can assume Anub will come into play with minions. It looks like he may have a light AOE and a flip effect that may "impale" a player! It also looks like he can summon scarabs from dead add or player corpses. Not sure if they will do anything with that, but they might.

Grand Widow Faerlina (8-12 health?)- More AOE. It seems she may have an ability that will increase her attack power for a hit or two.

Maexxna (9-14 health?)- May incapacitate a player or two (so they can do nothing. Remember Teron Gorefiend?) May have attack power increase and may have a debuff reducing healing done. May spawn spider minions or come into play with minions.

Noth the Plaguebringer (10-15 health?)- Beginning of DOTs. Damage if cursed, possible attack increase.

Heigan the Unclean (11-17 health?)- May have ability cost reductions. This is the "dance" boss. Diseases and DOTs.

Loatheb (25-37 health?)- Will probably severely cripple any and all healing. AOE attack possible.

Instructor Razuvious (12-19 health?)- Highly likely a bleed dot will apply. AOE possible. Probably a nasty atk value. NOTE: Razuvious is a Death Knight.

Gothik the Harvester (3-5 health?) Gothik is invulnerable at first. He will probably come into play with a load of minions that must be killed (kind of like Majordomo Executus). Then he will flip, and players kill him.

The Four Horsemen (3-5 health each?)-
Each will do their own thing, probably like the Illidari Council in Black Temple.

Patchwerk (16-24 health?)- May have minions or draw from the minion deck, if there is one. Tank and spank.

Grobbulus (12-18 health?)- AOE. Possible power like Baron Geddon's "bomb".

Gluth (14-21 health?)- May reduce healing. May also cause bleeds. May debuff health.

Thaddius (37-56 health?)- Massive AOE. May come with minions. May have power that hits a player hard.

Sapphiron (16-30 health?)- Debuffs, possible minion spawn, massive AOE. Curses, DOTs possible. May have a power similar to blizzard, may be able to ice block (incapacitate) players.

Kel'Thuzad (FINAL) (18-50 health?)- Massive army supporting him. Minions will have to go down before KT can be hit. Can curse, DOT, AOE, and may have powers that hit players hard. POSSIBLY CAN MIND CONTROL other players and make them attack friendly targets. Potentially a nasty fight....

None of that is official; just my interpretation of what Naxx could be. It probably will follow a similar structure of Molten Core and Black Temple.
