Re: where is the next words going to be?
1108382: 1189990: 1108382:Here's the deal: I'll promise to make sure that wowtcg.com/op is always the best source for official OP information. But y'all have to actually read it. Deal?
No, NO, and NO. The forums are always the best place and most looked at. When you have any OP news, post in this forum. When you have the Worlds info (not that I care), put a sticky at the top with 'Worlds Information Annoucement'. People come to the forums all the time to see what's going on on multiple topics. People don't go over to OP constantly (other than me :)) to check what the latest OP stuff is. Cheers.
Sorry buddy, but you're wrong. Look at this thread here - the fourms obviously failed when the thread about Austin the day after Gen Con didn't get an answer, even though the information was easily available.
The forums are important, and I like our community. But the signal-to-noise ratio is always going to be a challenge, and it's too easy for people to miss important info and/or get incorrect info. If we post every single OP announcement in the forums, they will be filled with a dozen sticky threads. And if we don't post _everything_, then people will complain because they can't find what they're looking for.
We all need to be re-trained to use the OP web pages as the single authoritative source. Forum threads are great to discuss the info, but the web page needs to be the final, official source of record.
I'm not suggesting that it's only in the forums. I'm suggesting a Sticky announcing that the info is avaialable and pointing to the OP page. Just updating the OP page isn't good enough. Are we supposed to keep checking every day to see when the Worlds page changes from Austin to 'XXXXXX'.?? Cheers.

Re: where is the next words going to be?
1172772:I will say you guys were decent at getting the 09 info out in 08. There were locations and relative dates for the DMF's and major events which made planning a little easier as we had an idea what events we would be attending and (roughly) when. But with no exact dates or specific venues we still couldn't get more specific with planning than I need some time off in July to go to Boston. However, there's exactly 0 info about 2010 unless you count the rcq 5 season info.
The 2010 OP schedule is scheduled to release during the first week of January, and include complete information for the entire year, including specific dates, locations, and venues.
It's clear that last year's strategy of putting out a bunch of information during Worlds meant that some important information got overlooked in all the coverage. I also think that having specific information will help people that have to schedule vacation time off in advance.

I am going to award Ben 50 achievement points for being so active in this thread. You are setting a great example for what the players would like to see from UDE staff in important threads.
I know all this attention/information is making me feel more "looked after" as a player.

We do that quite a bit for major news. The better place for this is the OP RSS news feed.
However, people still need to look at the OP pages. When someone asks "Is the 2009 Worlds venue announced", the first answer should be a link to the Worlds page in the OP section. Unfortunately, right now people turn to the forums as an authoritative source first.
And let's be fair - you aren't a good example of "average" forum user. :D

1208645:Put next year's OP calendar (ie the graphic which had all the DMF's listed which is up on the OP page/was in Paris etc) on the main-page. The current 'upcoming events' tab is easily overlooked and just isn't as pretty.
Fine idea. I have people looking into this now.

Re: where is the next words going to be?
1511318: there was very little to do outside of the tournament in terms of night life.
I think it's been mentioned by other people, but there were about a million bars a couple blocks away. Went there Saturday evening (death metal pizza!) and it was hopping. 802545:Question really is how many people come to a tournament to SITE SEE...
When I did GenCon for Nats - I spent about 75% of my time in the
tourney area with 20% sleeping in hotel room and 5% eating/shopping at
the convention...
How many people truly goes to Boston, Austin, Charlotte, Paris to do
anything other than play the game. I work for a living and can't afford
to take off a whole week and spend more money on hotel rooms to "Visit"
a host city.
I spent about as much time site seeing in Paris as I did playing cards. I would have spent a lot more time checking things out but was not allowed more time off of work. And (in part because I did poorly) I thought that seeing the city was much better than playing in the tournament. 1664869:1. Seattle ... The Bad: Some guy named Matt Walsh and his unwelcome sexual advances. ...
7. Boston The Good: Getting a tour of Fenway Park, High Quantity of AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL gingers. The
Bad: RIDICULOUS cost of everything, Subway a huge pain in the ass to
navigage (had to go 10 minutes out of our way to catch a connecting
train that ended up stopping at original station we were ate),
ridiculous cost of everything
Unwelcome??!?!! Anyway, the subway was mostly my bad. If I'd actually had a map on me rather than relying on going to where I had been before it would have been better... It did seem really expensive, though. I suppose we were paying for location, but that was the most expensive non-international flight I've had for this game and was far and away the most expensive hotel. The food wasn't too astoundingly overpriced, but I already live in the middle of a city so maybe I'm just used to it.

Deal and thanks. I really do not care where the central location is as long as it is updated. If you do decide to change the location please let us know in the forums.
I do request that each page (maybe page is not a good word as obviously the main page maybe does not need it, how about "article"?) has a "Updated {date}" on it. So that way I do not have to read the same information over and over looking for new information.

LB the beauty about a community is the players can help players in the forums. I think we already do a pretty good job at it. I know you do allot but I like to think others help as well.
if the information becomes reliably available in one central location then we the players can pass this along to other players in the forums.
I do not think we as players can ask for a certain place for information to be because only UDE peeps know what it takes to get information posted so while they may consider player opinions about where the information can be posted ultimately we will hold them accountable for it being timely and accurate so we should allow them to chose the path best suited for this.
We as players can adjust to whatever UDE does as long as it is timely, accurate and always in the same place.

Ah you let the people hang in the air with no information on events next year. Same with GM and Opel ....GM said the will sell Opel than they say they wont, than they say yes again and now they realised that they are lost without german ability to build proper cars. Nice one.
Its same like here ..... i smell some kind of making cash and crushing after ..... same example with Decipher ..... they fooled me with cash prizes about 4500$.

Re: where is the next words going to be?
there was very little to do outside of the tournament in terms of night life.
You do realized that had you simply walked a few blocks north you would have been at 5th and 6th streets where there was crowded/active nightlife and a thousand open bars full of people every night. Its' your own fault for not going there... anyone that has ever been to the city would have directed you there if you would have asked someone "where can I go to find nightlife". When I went to Paris, there was NOTHING going on around the convention center. It was absolutely dead. When I walked around at night, there was like 1 open restaurant and zero people. But only a retard would come to the conclusion from that experience that "there is nothing to do in Paris in terms of night life". You obviously have to go to the "hopping" parts of town and can't expect the convention center to be directly in the center of the nightclub district.

There are no big events in January. Attendance is always very sketchy during this time, and you run the risk of winter weather making travel very difficult.
The earliest event would be mid-February.

It's a team effort, but I'm the one responsible for signing off for OP programs. I'm not involved with every day-to-day action - I manage the three North American teams, and we have our International cohorts over in Europe as well.
My boss reads the forums, so say nice things please.
