Re: where is the next words going to be?

I'll go if it's in Europe. Seriously, anywhere in Europe.

UDE owes us for Austin. Seriously, what a ****hole. And that's putting it nicely.

Congratulations Mr. Jack Fejer for getting engaged (:D!!!) and possibly making Day 2 Worlds. Still not entirely sure which is more of a miracle.

Re: where is the next words going to be?

It should be in Europe, to continue the pattern, and probably in Germany, since France already had it last year, and the german community is bigger than the UK community (if I'm not mistaken).

Amsterdam and 'just outside Germany' are very high on the list.

I'm still somewhat confused what the problem with Austin was, close food, hotel, nightlife, awesome live music. I understand cost was a bit of a problem, but that was due to a poor choice of weekend for the event.

As for next years worlds, I'm going to put my money on San Diego or Las Vegas. As much as I want it to be in Europe, with the shrinking player base, weak economy, and overall cost of the event a stateside location within driving distance of UDE seems much more likely.

Austin is not convenient to get to. For some reason though Magic, YGH and WoW all thought it was a good idea, so I can only assume the convention centre is cheap. But if this had been in New York or Vegas, there would have been a much higher attendence closer to Paris'.

Re: where is the next words going to be?

i had a lot of fun in Austin. thought there was plenty to do at night, good food and...ok, not so much with the weather. flying there was a pain though, a layover in dallas just for a 30 minute flight from dallas to austin was just silly. next worlds - st louis! seriously. it's nice and central, plenty to do at night, lots of beer (free if you go to the brewery tour!), great food... hey, i'll even host a big fat home-cooked dinner at my house one night. deal? deal!

It is fairly cheap to hold events here, and the community is amazing, not to mention some of the UDE Brass have roots in the area. I still think the location had less to do with a downturn in attendance than other factors. Would attendance have been up if it had been in a major gateway city like NYC, sure, would it have gotten close to the almost 500 from Paris, unlikely. It would have also cost UDE a heck of a lot more to run an event in those locations as well, and I think the cost of the OP program is going to start effecting the number of events and support at those events if the player base doesn't improve.

Re: where is the next words going to be?

Ask yourself why its cheap for Ude in Austin ....cause Austin has nothing to offer ....close food isnt a very good argument for holding worlds there. I visited Austin 1 week .....very bad for shopping (i was at 3 malls ....all outside the city).... and bad place for sideseing cause no history there (very young city i guess)
