I'm surprised no one is making fun of me because of my round 1 loss. It was all a plot to make Gomez make the hard decisions required of a judge.

I had a bad feeling the night before and actually considered not going. I did not like my deck (I rushed to finish it). Once there I made a mistake on my decklist; it took a long time to fix which caused me to forget to register. I felt like it was going to be a long day.

Luckly, my deck turned out to be better than I thought. My oddball card (some of you know what it is) worked better than I thought it would. The deck is better against rush than I anticipated (stupid MWS and its terrible shuffling) and actually pretty good against control.

I'm not sure if I'll use it for Realm Champs though. I will probably end up Paladin...

Oh, Jax. How did Mage would out for you? The class really doesn't have much going for it, does it?

Time to remind you of the proper procedure when arriving at a tournament.

    1. Register
    2. Fill out Decklist

    IN THAT ORDER !!!! :)

Yeah, sorry for not making fun.

Arrive late - play in first round.
Arrive on time - fail to play in first round.

    LOL

BTW: Did we seriously have a 29 person tourney where not a single player was playing Black Ice?????

    Cheers.

For all the scrubs with the sub 10 people RQs, all these tables were FILLED.

    WTF?

I don't scout. I just like to see what people are playing - Hero wise. Not that I just use that for anything, just interested. Way to try and besmirch my name!!!

    Cheers.

    Re: Newark CA RQ 10/24

29 people! The day started off kind of lame. Match 1 I got paired against Daniel and Andrew got paired against Brian -- a field of 29 and the entirety of Berkeley was playing against itself. That was pretty crazy.

I played Lionar again, and yes I did make top 8. I have no idea how because I was sucking it up pretty badly for most of the rest of the day (3-2, with losses in 3 and 4). Then again, my tie-breakers were insane: 3/5 or 4/5 of my opponents made the cut. I continued to suck it up in the 2 vs. 7 match versus Mythen, however, because I am just that awesome.

Whatever. Two top 8's in a row. I might even manage to forget that I had to netdeck to do it. Maybe.

Condolences to Brian who managed 9th despite finishing round 5 at table 2. This time it was Andrew tanking tie-breakers, not me. :P

Andrew did play in the draft and managed to pull 2nd place, so it wasn't a total loss for him at least.

Misery is just that dirty.... Even though it only won one of the games. Using Arcane warding offensively does merit an applause from me though...

    Re: Newark CA RQ 10/24

Last week on ANDREW'S SUPER DUPER SECRET TECH FAILS AGAIN:

Andrew, fresh from attempting to learn L5R sat down at 11pm the night before with a vague concept in mind and threw it together.

    The hero: Lelora the Sunlancer.

The goal: Arcanist Thelis/Divine Favor Deck Swap Mill-Out Win

His tools: A binder or two of rares and about a million unorganized cards, as well as a couple friends to lend him those EVER VALUABLE Arcanist Thelis and a girlfriend who likes to wake up early for card games and drive.

His results: Managed the combo three times. Went 2-3. Got funny looks when the jank went off. Won a game purely on the basis of choosing to use Solanian's to recur a Divine Favor earlier in the game and going second to heal out on the last turn of the game.

The Findings: Retainer Alashon is pretty coo'. Deck out combo, despite being simple, is hard due to Thelis being rather fragile. Penance does not deal unpreventable holy damage. I either draw no Holy Shocks or all my Holy Shocks. Netherbane is a must against Warlock.

Disheartened and beaten, our intrepid hero stripped free from the constricting pants (or, given that Lelora is a JonBoy card, panties) of the Blood Elf Holy Paladin and instead moved to the drafting table, where he was prepared to show Newark how we draft in Berkeley.

Unfortunately, that plan came up short as, while I initially planned to just rare draft the crap out of the draft and to hell with winning, I get passed like, four or five hugely good Alliance right off and decide I'll straddle the razor's edge and try to rare draft as much as possible while simultaneously trying to manage a deck. A true drafter's gauntlet, as it were.

The result was... okay. I ended up with a fairly aggressive blue deck with a ridiculous number of heavy hitters overall. I shouldn't have tried to force Mage for Consul and instead should have powered off the Gladiator's Pursuit I snagged at the beginning of pack 2, but hey. Live and learn.

Match One was against Emek and was pretty smooth sailing overall, with me being a bit hyperactive from not being able to chat during draft (what can I say, our playgroup is chatty). Finished up quick and long delay + being hungry mellowed me out by the time game 2 rolled around.

Match Two started off quite bad for me as Grand Marshal Goldensword proved to have quite a bit of removal and deployed it exquisitely to repeatedly silence every threat I possessed. Game two saw me hit a veritable God draw as I curved straight into and past Consul Rhys, hitting every race along the way. Game three is a much more sordid affair, but the number of fatties I had just eventually overwhelmed.

Match Three... the less said, the better, honestly. >_> Got rolled pretty handily. Just hit bad draws and he hit goods ones. Plus, Misery and all.

Definitely the highlight of the draft was using Arcane Wardiing offensively twice: once to prevent a Blessing of Trials from landing on a Quickhands Spigotgulp while she attempted to run face first into Skaduzzle, and another to turn off a United Front.

    Fun times.

You know I'm just joking :D
Anyone that knows Phil knows hes a great guy, he would never do anything underhanded.

Besides, he doesn't need to scout, Phil uses xray contacts to see your deck! That spy tech is crazy.
