Re: Hey Siggie.... where'd you go?

You know, I felt pretty damn crushed to learn that I wasnt selected for hotel sponsorship to judge at DMF Boston. Had I gone to Skey before mistakingly doing what PTO Miranda Anderson said about emailing Judge at upperdeck dot com, he said it could have been worked out.

Now I'm trying to figure out the logistics of how to get there and stay close enough to the venue to not need a cab every morning to be there at 8 each day.  The cab to and from the air port basically breaks my savings account based on projections provided by UDE so far.

I spent about 35 hours a week studying Tournament Policy, Penalty guidelines, and how to be a better player manager, each week since my return from DMF Charlotte.  I shaped my entire month of July around judging at Boston after hearing from Miranda that I sounded like a good candidate for sponsorship.   I know a lot of words in this life, and I am a writer at heart, so when I say that I cannot fully express to you how crestfallen I was to learn I wasn't accepted as a judge for WoW Minis, please understand it leaves me questioning my future with this game.

Who exactly was chosen that a man willing to drive 12 hours one way to judge at DMF Charlotte and who has been studying for weeks and months to be a better judge gets left out?

Oh, I did manage to convince her, with Skey's help, to let me work the floor of the event, and I have the money for my ticket going into the bank monday.  Now I just have to figure out the logistics of how to get around to and from the event and where to curl up at night.  Imposing on RoarkSlader seems rough, and I'd rather room with judges who might be on similar sleep schedules.  I dont know how late players are Charlotte stayed up testing or stayed out socializing.  If nothing else, he graciously offered me floor space, and honestly, that's all I'm asking for.

    I just want to judge.

Re: Hey Siggie.... where'd you go?

gz, seems like you deserve it.
But just because you had the opportunity (to have skey as a friend) doesn't mean other people might have not wanted that as well.
There might be people better than you out there....
Anyway at first i found your post to be like......"OMG , WHY NOT ME? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY????????????????????"

but ok you fixed it at the end :P.
And seriously, i really think you deserve at least one spot (and i would think a better one than the one they gave you) since you spent all that time studying, doing calculations and the maths on how to get there and BE there when needed. All these things for just a minis game, really do show commitment.

Good luck siggie! Wish i could come to that DMF (to any freakin DMF generally .....blew nvm :P that's another thing..) to see ya judging :P.

Re: Hey Siggie.... where'd you go?

Thanks for reading to the end to understand this wasnt a crying session agaisnt the rain, rather it's about laying it on the field and hoping someone can help me out.  I can pay what's fair, but I can't at all afford that rediculous hotel rate.  I swear to god, when Ian E. posted that negotiated room rate, I thought it was a late April Fools Day joke.

    Cheers!

Re: Hey Siggie.... where'd you go?

If you needed 35hrs a week for a couple month to learn rules and the player management, maybe that's why you're not good enough?

    No offense intended.

Best ranking at weekly draft : 4th (5 showed up and I got a bye :D)
Number of weekly drafts : 44 and counting.
0-4 drop at worlds (pairings suck)
Once won a game in DMF, my opponent didn't show up.

Try Priceline. We got ourselves a nice 4 star room at the Hilton (Financial District), 9 minutes from the event for 100$ a night using their "Ask for your price" bidding feature. I'm sure we could have reduced that a lot if we'd been willing to go to cheaper hotels. On the Hilton's site, their lowest rate is 209$.

Basically, you say what star level you'd like, put in your bid. Whatever price you wish to pay. If they find something in your star-range that accepts your bid, you're booked, end of story. You can't just rescind after making a bid. If they don't find anything at your price, you have to wait 24 hours before making a new bid. I'm guessing this is to stop people from gaming the system by adding 1$ to their bid until some hotel accepts the deal.

You can often get half-price or close to half-price, especially if you get closer to your trip's date.

No offense taken since you completely misunderstood my message and failed to understand just how seriously i'm taking this 6-month cooldown if i fail. I do not feel that I can afford to fail the test, since I desire so strongly to complete my advancement to 2.0 before Continentals.

    Cheers!

Thank you for the testimonial. I have heard the commercials, but honestly, i'm too skeptical of anything i hear on tv.  I will try it and hope it works. If it does, see you at boston!!
