    Uplifting Prayer Question

Okay, so, this came to mind with Uplifting Prayer, but it does apply to several others as well.

Uplifting Prayer says "Ongoing: At the start of your turn, you may put target ally card from your graveyard into play if its cost is less than or equal to the number of resources you control."

Now, Rule 302.2 "A player can propose an ally as an attacker or use its activated ( ) powers only if that card has been in its current party continuously since the start of its controller’s most recent turn. Only
allies have this restriction. Protecting with a character (602.2) is not using an activated power."

So, if Uplifting Prayer puts the card into play at the start of your turn, does that mean you can attack with them?  I guess the same can be said for Adam Eternum as well.

    Thanks.

    Re: Uplifting Prayer Question

No.  When your turn begins the ally is not in your party, so you cannot attack with it unless it has Ferocity.

    Re: Uplifting Prayer Question

Both the card and the rules refer simply to the "start" of your turn. Does the same word really have two different meanings?

    Re: Uplifting Prayer Question

While the effects trigger at the start of turn, they do not resolve until after you turn starts. So by the time the ally has entered play, it has missed the check to see whether it was in your party at the start of your turn.

    Re: Uplifting Prayer Question

They don't have different meanings, just the fact that when it is start of the turn the triggered effect gets added to the chain. By the time the trigger resolves (and puts the ally into play) it will be past the start of the turn (think of it in terms that, say, your opponent responds to that trigger playing 3 instant cards from his hand. Would it make sense to be the start of your turn after 3 abilities and an effect have resolved?) so the ally will not be continuously in your party since the start of your turn.

    Re: Uplifting Prayer Question

If you want a really basic explanation...

Ready all of your cards in play. Before you move your hands to do ANYTHING else, look at your board. If an ally is not in play, face-up, it has summoning sickness this turn.

    Re: Uplifting Prayer Question

Now I'm hearing contradictions (or so it seems).  According to:

    501. Start phase

    501.1 Ready step

501.1a As a ready step starts, the turn player readies all physically exhausted cards in play he or she controls. Any modifiers created “as [that turn] starts” are also created simultaneously. None of this uses the chain. Next, a priority window opens. As that window closes, the ready step ends.

So, the as the turn start modifier of Uplifting Prayer triggers during the ready step of the start phase and does not use the chain.  This triggered effect is added to the chain during the Ready Step priority window.

After the ready step, there is the Inspire and Draw steps, still in the Start Phase.  Hence, an ally put into play "at the start of my turn" would have been in play while still in the start phase and should not have summoning sickness.

On the other hand, 302.2 does say "...continuously since the start of its controller’s most recent turn."  Is that the part I'm missing here?  Not trying to be difficult, just want to make sure I understand the nuances correctly.

    Re: Uplifting Prayer Question

Uplifting Prayer does not say anything about "as the turn starts", so 501.1a does not apply.

The start of your turn is the very very start of your turn. This is before you even ready your cards. If an ally is not under your control at this point, then it was not under your control at the start of your turn.
