In my opinion, one of the most interesting
mechanics in the WoW Miniatures Game are the epic figures. They come with
unique power and special abilities, which no other figures have.
So it is really pity that they are so rarely
used.
But the reasons for this are obvious: first each
Epic has 10 honor. That means you need 2 kills and 2 VP at least to win the
game. That is much for just one figure.
Second your opponent gets 8 VP for killing your
epic. This is a heavy drawback, mainly because some epics are really fragile (I
think of a lich we all know).
In this article I will discuss a warband with
Highlord Bolvar Foredragon. And if you enjoy it, I will write something about
the other epic figures.
The most important thing to build a group with
an epic is synergy. But I am sure, all of you are knowing this. So let’s take a
look on Bolvar:
Paladin- Retribution
Armor: 4
Resist: 2
Health: 11
T3 R1 D5 (melee)
Crit: damage +X, where X is the damage on
another ally
Special Ability: Consecration
At the end of ticks 5/10 deal one damage to
each adjacent enemy
At first sight, Bolvar’s stats are good. A
fantastic 4 armor, a solid 2 resist und 11 health. His chances to survive alone
in the field are very good.
His crit is awesome, because it is possible to
one-shot most characters. But the Problem is, that therefore another character
must be badly wounded. So it is necessary to use a character, which is able to control
his health. The only one who is able to do that is Amon Darkheart.
With his ability “Life tap” it is possible to
control the damage on him and to advance his attack. Amon’s job will be to make
magic damage and to push Bolvar’s crit. But this makes him very vulnerable, so
he needs protection. The perfect guy for this job is Savin Lightguard with “Bulwark
of Azzinoth”. The SavinWall was well discussed in other articles so I think
where is nothing to say.
So Amon is able to make a T2 R3 D6 (magic)
attack and is perfectly protected by Savin. Such an attack is awesome and much
better that most epic’s attacks.
So we have our warband, consisting of Bolvar,
Amon and Savin.
Actionbar cards:
The choice of the actionbar cards is for Savin
really easy. First “Bulwark of Azzinoth” to protect Amon and Bolvar if
necessary and second “Blessing of
Protection”. Because Savin will tick up for Amon’s attacks with his “Blessing
of Wisdom” it will be improbably that he will be able to take a turn. But
“Blessing of Protection” is a react that can be played any time.
Amon’s actionbar cards should be: “Summon
Piztog” because of blood pact, Shadowburn to kill totems and pets quickly and
“Corruption” for Characters with high resist.
Bolvar should get his special card: “Bolvar’s
Retribution” for healing his team mates if necessary, “Cleanse” for Debuffs,
“Blessing of Might” to advance his probability to get a crit and finally
“Hammer of Justice” to tick dangerous enemys up a little bit.
So our group consists of:
Highlord Bolvar Fordragon (Honor 10)
Bolvar’s Retribution
Cleanse
Blessing of Might
Hammer of Justice
Amon Darkheart (8)
Summon Piztog
Shadowburn
Corruption
Savin Lightguard (8+2)
Bulwark of Azzinoth
Blessing of Protection
That makes a total honor of 28. That is many and
maybe this group will not win a championship, but I makes really fun to play
with it.
I hope you enjoyed this article, and maybe you
got some inspiration for your own epic warbands. If you liked it, I will next
week discuss the most fragile epic: Ras Frostwhisper.
