    Spectral Safari, Anderson IN

Things went quite well at Reader Copies today! Rules questions were answered responsibly, many of us had copies of the comprehensive rules and were at least lvl 1 judges, and some good calls were made as events came up. Even the people that'd never played before had a good time (One of whom, in fact, placed second :D) . It was great to meet many of you, I know contact information was passed around, and I hope this is the start of a good thing for the local minis crowd. I know some of you drove a good hour or two to get out there, and maybe we could all do so again once every other month or so?

I think parking went over relatively smoothly. Thank you all who carpooled or walked from the other lot. I know I'll try to come back maybe once a month for Battlegrounds, but it'd be better if we could all coordinate so there were more than four or five people showing up for that :).

I was quite glad to see more than just a handfull of people showing up at all. For the record, I believe there were 20 of us from in or around the state. And if anyone out there in readerland is curious, Fillet and Graccus were the winning team. Followed closely by Haruka and Mojo Shaper. In other news, Blindsight Murlock and Harvest Golem, the frostsaber and the sunscale scythclaw, I believe another Fillet and Rhoria, and I can't remember quite whom else made the top 8. My own team of Sarmoth and Rethilgore (for the curious, the third was Chen, and you needn't ask why I didn't run him :P) did well on its own, through good and not so good die rolls aplenty. But sadly, my 'taunting demon with inflated stats during full moons' wasn't good enough.

And since I'm hoping for a good showing Sunday afternoon, Battlegrounds starts at 3pm tomorrow, so there'll at least be a few people to compete against. And I'll actually be bringing my trade stuff this time since I'm not going to have to be concerned about hauling the crate up and down the highway. Congratulations to everyone that placed, and happy gaming!

That's pretty cool.  Thanks for the rundown.  We had to leave early to get home after our driver was eliminated from the final 8. :)  I was hoping to look on here and find a first name of the person who won (for curiosity's sake).  I'm amazed that one guy got 2nd, but that's pretty awesome.  That's in the spirit of the sealed event as far as I'm concerned.

Not sure if he wanted me mentioning it, but the guy running things at Reader Copies mentioned he gives the battleground kits to all the folks who show up for it as opposed to whoever wins.  That's not such a bad deal for a $5 entry fee.  (That might help you get more people for BG.)

    Re: Spectral Safari, Anderson IN

I'm afraid I didn't catch his name :/. May have been Shawn, or at least it sounded like that.

Things are kinda like that at a lot of shops, from what I hear. So long as people show up, I'll consider it a good thing :). At my local shop, I'm often the only other person to show up besides the guy running the shop that day, and he's usually too busy running things to get a game in. And otherwise I'm driving a good bit, and not everyone actually plays by the same rules at that location x.o;. So if I can start making it up here to Anderson, or elsewhere in Indy, I'd consider it a success, and something worth making the effort to attend.

    Re: Spectral Safari, Anderson IN

My name is Cody, good try though.
I pulled Fillet, Graccus and Amon.  Amon ended up in the car with the Slashdance before the selection time ever ended, which left me with a 15 honor team without a legendary.  I went 4-2 in prelims, losing to Fillet/Victoria and the true power combo of Elendril/Phadalus, who went 6-0 and wiped me badly.

Then the quarters had me against the Prowler/Scytheclaw, which nearly killed Fillet once but sadly we both knew my defense was too high and I won outright.
Semis were a rematch against Elendril/Phadalus.  I should have lost, but my idea was to only kill Elendril and have Graccus 3 or more spaces away from Phadalus at all times.  I left the shaman alone except when Fillet needed to keep his buffs and to waste earth shock on the warrior abilities to keep me alive for three more ticks.  The match went 25 ticks with a score 16-8.
Finals were also a rematch against Haruka/Mojo Shaper Ojo'mon.  He had a really good idea of surrounding himself with totems, earth shocking my pally, and hitting Fillet with melee attacks.  But he ended up critting too much with Mojo and it fed Fillet to a hefty 8+ before winning on an 11 attack against Haruka.

The entire time I was the high honor cost, which had me on the ropes against all the 11, 12, 13 combos I met.  I just lucked out into playing everyone in the QF's, which gave me the chance to plan ahead instead of having to create a generic strategy and hope it worked.  I had a blast.

    Re: Spectral Safari, Anderson IN

Congrats Cody on the win, you did a great job on me in the semi-finals! Too bad none of you could make it to Heroic Adventures in Edwardsville IL on sunday. Allen and I joined in to make a whopping 5 player event. Three monster and two alliance boosters were opened and I ended up with Frostsaber and Rethilgore.

I squeaked by a Slitherblade/Enraged Fire Spirit, beat Arugal and a Blindlight Murloc, lost to Elendril/Moonshadow, and Allen scooped to me with Boris/Victoria. Top 2 was Elendril/Moonshadow and myself. After a nailbiter defense roll with my Rethilgore at 1 life which would have handed my opponent the win, I managed to get into the 6-10 phase. He made a mistake move with Moonshadow because he forgot my movement bonus and I was able to hit her with both my characters for the win.

I had a lot of fun at the Anderson event, and I was happy to meet several of the folks who post here. Looking forward to the next big event!

Well congrats :), that certainly makes the hefty commute worth it for you both I'm sure.

Just post again when everyone would like to get together somewhere in an upcoming weekend. Once my schedule changes, my weekend opens up quite a bit.

I made top 8 with Fillet and Victoria Jaton, knocked out first round though.
