    Experience Points

So, I think this is kind of funny.  UDE has had a type of "Player Experience" and "Player Level" program however as far as i know they have never implemented it.  I can not think of a better time for it to be implemented than with the release of WoW TCG.  The kicker is that WoTC has already implemented an "experience point" program into their OP and it has been met with pretty great enthusiasm.  For those of you who are unsure what i am talking about here's a clip from the UDE Official Tournament Policy.

18        Experience Points and Player Level

For each official sanctioned UDE tournament in which a player participates, he or she receives UDE experience points that help towards increasing his or her player level. Special rewards will periodically be offered by UDE for players of certain levels.

A player level measures how much a person has participated in official tournaments. Over the course of several years, a player could earn a maximum player level of 20.

Each player has a player level for each game and an overall player level that combines all games. A player earns 1 experience point for every official tournament in which he or she participates. Unlike a UDE rating, UDE experience points only increase—they never decrease

As a player’s total experience points increase, their overall UDE player level increases, and their player level for each game increases. There is no restriction to how quickly a player may “level up” using this system. Only official sanctioned tournaments that have been correctly reported to UDE count towards a player’s level.

Experience Points      Player Level              Experience Points             Player Level

    0                                                                        0                                125–149                      11

    1–4                                1                                150–174                      12

    5–9                                2                                175–199                      13

    10–14                            3                                200–249                      14

    15–19                            4                                250–299                      15

    20–29                            5                                300–399                      16

    30–44                            6                                400–499                      17

    45–59                            7                                500–749                      18

    60–74                            8                                750–999                      19

    75–99                            9                                1000+                          20

    100–124                      10

Example: Stephanie has played in 48 official Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG tournaments and 32 official Vs. System tournaments. Her Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG player level is now 7, and her Vs. System level is now 6. Her overall UDE player level is 9.

Granted, I by no means think this program is perfect.  In fact i think it needs a lot of work.  I feel that player levels should reset every year.  Perhaps after the world champs or something.  It seems that once you hit level 20 that you really never have to go to another tournament again to receive your free "swag".

Jeff or Scott.  Can we expect to see this actually get implemented with the release of WoW TCG?

So what exactly does leveling up do for you?

Well, this little gong sounds and a flash of yellow light and all of a sudden you're able to allocate another talent point (if you've hit level 10 or over).

Ok, joking aside, in Magic its for Pro Tour levels, which depending on the level got you things like appearence fees, GP byes, airfare, hotel, etc.

    Re: Experience Points

I'm foreseeing some "Just shut up and go back to your sandbox ; do you know who I am ? I'm level 14 you f...ing noob !".

    Bad idea in my opinion.

Ahh I see, that sounds like a good idea then.

    Re: Experience Points

sounds a lot like the levels for .hack//enemy.

Basically in that game every time you leveled up you got 2 promos. One was an actual playable card the other was a "level up" card. Basically if you had more level up cards you went first. (that sucked once worlds came around lol, but more so because the meta was god aweful. of the like 45 participants like 38 people were playing the same deck -_- ).

I think the system would be interesting, maybe you can get like special pins, and if they are going to go with the point redemption for raid cards maybe those could be rewards as well.

or if they go to the level that WOTC does, that would be awesome as well :D

    Re: Experience Points

It's good to see that people are liking the whole experience thing.  Here's how some other games do it.

LunnaOfLothar mentioned how it works in .hack//enemy

For Dreamblade - Depending how you place in a tournament you get a number of points.  Each time you enter ANY premier level tournament you get rewards equal to your number of points. (ex: 100point = 1 dice, 200point = 2 dice, 300point = Limited Edition Figure) So using the following example each time you enter a premier level tournament if you have 350 points you will recieve 3 dice and 1 limited edition figure.  So its more of a threshold thing that resets every year.

For MTG - Someone mentioned the Pro Player Club thing.  Each Pro Tour a player goes to rewards a number of Pro Player points based on how you finished. (These are Just examples as im not really sure exactly what the different levels award)

20 Points for LVL 1 - 3 round byes at every GPT

45 Points for LVL 2 - Level 1 rewards PLUS Automatic Invites to every Pro Tour

60 Points for LVL 3 - Level 1 and 2 rewards PLUS airfare to each pro tour

80 Points for LVL 4 - Level 1 thru 3 rewards PLUS Hotel accomodations at each pro tour and $500 appearance fee

120 Points for LVL 5 - Level 1 thru 4 rewards PLUS another $500 appearance fee for each pro tour ($1000 total) and $250 appearance fee at each grand prix.

    You get the idea.

These levels are sort of like thresholds AND get reset to some extent each year.

    No fair using big words.

I can't discuss details yet, because they won't make as much sense without knowing the complete Organized Play plans. I promise it's much, much cooler than the one in the UDE Policy Doc quoted above.

Hmm, well the "much, much cooler" part, I like.  The "I can't discuss details yet" part, not so much.

I'm really excited to hear what you guys have planned for Organized Play, though!

You made me look "Vorlon" up on Wikipedia. B5 has long been on my "TV shows to watch on DVD" list.
