Frostbite is a very interesting ability because it mimics an effect that is very carefully controlled in World of Warcraft Trading Card Game design: resource disruption.

Very cool idea. if u could get a frostbite to hit every turn after 3 it would be devastating. The problem as you said was to keep your draw up. Since you mentioned morik i think you should at least think about what's wrong with cenarion thicket.

P.S. and who will post the most effective decklist? Guantlent Thrown.

Re: One Card at a Time: Frostbite

Sick ass article dude, but you gave away my favourite deck =P

I am at work but I guess I can post my deck later when I get home. It has a decent winning rate and could always use better Ideas to work out more. I am going to switch a few out for more Winter's Grasp cause I didn't realize how fun it could be in this deck.

Anyways the deck that I have (Was Litori, untill HFI came out, now I use Black Ice) pisses my friends off bad. Correct, if it works out correctly, opponents don't get to play a damn thing and they are constantly losing cards to an oversized hand. I will say though, that to get this bad boy up and running to decide winning the game or not, if you don't pull and play the right cards by turn 3-4, you are pretty much foiled and you will have a more difficult time processing this idea (happens with alot of decks). Its basically a race to see who gets board control first =)

Great article, and great to see the Frost Spirit alive!!!!

Re: One Card at a Time: Frostbite

    Hi!
I've tested the card when i saw it in SoTB.
Some idea, how to refill your hand with cards:
    - Jin'do's Bag of Whammies  (+Icemistress Gal'ha = alternate win cond.)
    - Manaspark Gloves
    - Lost!
    - Mana Jade/Agate
    - lots of cold snap + another frost abi

Now maybe High Instructor Campbell it cool too (pick back Water Elemental/Frost Bite).

Thats my 2 cents from Hungary :)

Awesome article! This has inspired some thoughts about playing the mage class again.

Question about how this card works though. On my opponents turns, can I use Frostbite's effect in response to my opponent playing a card to make it cost more or do I have to activate Frostbite before they play a card?

you have to activate Frostbite before they play a card (like Blind)

Re: One Card at a Time: Frostbite

Sha'kar is Nature, it has cold in its text because cold damage triggers his ferocity, but he's not a Frost card sorry Glenn.

Very interesting however it'd be easier to play Viper Sting for the same result except you don't lose card advantage.

Relying on Having Xavar + Glous + another card in hand (Frostbite here) I'd rather play something else if I'm sure I'll have both of these guys in any starting hand :)

Anyway it was very interesting and you're crazy :p

Best ranking at weekly draft : 4th (5 showed up and I got a bye :D)
Number of weekly drafts : 44 and counting.
0-4 drop at worlds (pairings suck)
Once won a game in DMF, my opponent didn't show up.

Really? They are instant. They can be played in response to a card (like blind) and the effect resolves before the card your opponent played resolves. Correct me if I really am wrong but that's what I was believed to be true. *shrugs*

Yes, you must play Frostbite before they play the card.  When you actually put a card on the chain you have to pay the cost.  If you chain Frostbite effect to a card they play, the chain would look like this...

Opponent plays Absorb Magic by paying 2.  Pass priority
You activite Frostbite by paying one.  Opponent must pay 2 more to activate cards.  Pass.

    Chain resolves backwards.
Frostbite effect goes off and opponent must pay 2 more for cards.
    Asborb Magic effect here.

Same thing with Blind.  The chain would be like...

    Opponent: I play this card
You: I play Blind, you can't play cards.
Opponent: Well, I already played it, so it's gonna go off.
    You:...oh

Re: One Card at a Time: Frostbite

Yea I guess that would make sense. Never looked at it like that. Fortunatly I always did play it before anything (so I don't feel to bad for being dumb >.>), but I always thought you could. Like I said though, makes sense though. Thanks for the clarification bud.

Graa! I am so going to start taking classes just so I can write my own database that does everything I want it to!!!

    (probably not)

And yeah, I'm crazy. But Mark Slack has definitely upped the ante these days, I'm just playing catch-up ;).

You do have to activate Frostbite before a card is played as described in order to affect its cost. Thanks for the comments guys!

Re: One Card at a Time: Frostbite

If you activate frost bite before their draw step, the only cards they'll be able to play at normal cost are instant cards that they can play in response.

Re: One Card at a Time: Frostbite

Actually I even think instants that are played in response still have to pay more because you discard frost card +2 then I play this in response but because the cost was payed for Frostbite then I have to play an extra 2.

Eh no. Until a link is resolved, its effect will not function. When you use Frostbite's power it adds to the chain a link which will create a continuous modifier that increases the payment cost for opponent's cards for that turn. The continuous modifier is created when the link resolves. As such, instants played in response (link is not yet resolved) as well as instants played prior to the link (cost has already been paid) will not be affected.

btw: cool deck idea. Will play around with it when i get the time.
