Simply turn Hildagard sideways, navigate through any potential protectors, and hit home for the win. Voil! That seems easy enough—it’s a downright deal for only 7 resources.

Great article. As soon as I saw her, deck ideas were forming in my mind. She seems too easy to kill for the cost she is though. If she had ferocity herself, that would replace varimathras or another finisher in my mind.

Re: One Card at a Time: Chief Apothecary Hildagard

There are some eas ways to give her ferocity. The biggest thing is getting her through to the hero. However, there is the blood elf rogue hero who has a pay nothing flip that gives someone stealth. Heck, if you were to, say, run a mage with all kinds of interrupts and protectors and just wait till like, turn. . nine? Ten? Stall out until then? In one turn you should have enough resources to bring her out, have something out or put something on her that gives ferocity and slap something like the none class buff ability that gives +1 +1, tear her through. .. and with cardsl ike water elemental and the like you can take protectors offline. Or use another ally. I know there is one where when he attacks, he gives stealth to another. .

Actually water elementals (unlike frost shock) only removes the capacity to attack and do not remove the capacity to protect.

Glenn takes the effort to examine and suggest the potentiality of each card and he does offer some interesting ideas to use with Hildagard. However, the card itself had flaws which is already addressed by Glenn and members of the board. The problem being that it is

    (a) too high cost

    (b) requires other cards to support (minimum an attack boost. Ideally an attack boost, stealth and ferocity)

    (c) Too low a health total (1 health!)

Relatively speaking, Debros Cousin-to-Moon is actually a better card as while it doesn't automatically win you the game. It is cheaper, doesn't require atk boost and is significantly easier to recurr. You can pull off a combo for him at a much earlier resource count than it takes you to do one for Hildagard.

One card was not mentioned which is actually rather good as with 1 resource, it can cover two areas in section (b). Obfuscate grants you an attack value and stealth.

If you do plan to try a deck around Hildagard, I would probably suggest Zomm Hopeslayer which offers some benefits as:

    1) He is a rogue with access to Obfuscate, Purloins, Gouge etc etc...

    2) He is Assassination spec. Resource acceleration anyone? *cough... synergy... Debros... cough*

    3) He is an orc. No, I am not specist but some of the cards are...

It was disheartening for me to pull this Chief as my epic at the Sneak Preview. Meanwhile, someone else pulled Maiev...

This is entirly off the subject, but it made me laugh hysterically.

I found that while I clicked on the Specist link lol.

Anyways, Im thinking about running Red Pally control mixed with Chief Apothecary Hildagard. Just going to stay alive long enough to get her out and get some damage out.  Not near cards though, so I cant think of much off the top of my head.

    Good article bro.

You totally forgot to mention the shenanigains this card has with Rebirth. Turn 6 Gift of the Wild, turn 7 pass with at least 5 resources open, then at the end of their turn rebirth her and attack next turn for game.

Re: One Card at a Time: Chief Apothecary Hildagard

I would like to try Hildagard out with The Darkeater. Both of them are Warlocks, so you can use them with Xia, Queen of Suffering. If you can prevent your opponent from killing Hildagard when you play her on turn 7, The Darkeater becomes a big boon on turn 8. Not only does he buff up the Chief, he also may help to take out some of the weaker protectors on your opponent's field.

Nice thought but the rough part would be of course keeping them alive. Xia can't count much on protectors since she can only use Warlocks, so you would have to rely so much on Ally hate and Ally counter. But its worth a shot for sure.

Re: One Card at a Time: Chief Apothecary Hildagard

Im just so afraid to play with Xia. The question is would she make it to turn 8? lol She's so frail... But yea like I said. Would be cool if you can make it work.

Kysuke, we have the same 'luck'.

I also pulled her, the guy beside me opened Maiev, and one across opened Akama.

Don't forget about Obfuscate for rogues. It can give her stealth and +2 atk which takes care of two potential problems.
