March of the Legion Tour

5/2/08 - Cool Stuff Inc in Orlando, FL – Antonino De Rosa

Cool Stuff is a new store in town for me.  When I was attending University of Central Florida I used to rock at a store called The Gathering Place.  Needless to say many of the faces I saw this Friday were very familiar here in O-town.

So many people gathered here on this Friday evening to see the Legionnaire.  They all read the trash I was talking on the forums and decided to show up and try to teach me a lesson.

Many of the top Florida Pros showed up for a chance at the 2 Varimathras I promised.

Jerry, the Owner of Cool Stuff, was also nice enough to buy everyone Pizza before the tournament started.

While I showed the Pizza who was boss, I was checking out the locals playing some fun games.  It’s so dear to my heart watching people play and enjoy the game I help to make better everyday.

We finally got our sealed packs.  During deck constructed the tough choice for me was which class to play.  The choice was between Hunter, Warrior, and Druid.  At the end, I decided to play Warrior because of my gear and the extra health.

Round 1 vs. Matt Locklear playing Ressa the Leaper Queen

Matt was a super nice guy.  This was his second tournament.  1st being the Spectral Safari.

Round 2 vs. Joey Carey playing Morn Walks the Path

Yes the Joey Carey of Vs. System fame.  Joeys deck was busted, he had Thundering Footsteps and Varimathras, but I was able to overrun him and kill him on turn 7.

Round 3 vs. Jonathan Jones playing Bildros Nullvoid

Jonathan is the local judge in Orlando.  He had multiple Banish to the Nether and Harroon, but wasn’t able to squeak out the win.

Round 4 vs. Billy Postlethwait playing Lionar the Blood Cursed.

I would like to think I taught Billy P everything he knows.  He used to call me Papa DeRosa.  I used to chaperone him around the world when I was in College and he was a youngin.   Seeing him having so much success in recent years gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.  Billy and I had a really close game.  I had him dead on board with three guys to one of his.  He had 10 health left and no cards in hand.  He drew and found the game winning Defening Shout waiting for him.  Needless to say the protégée beat the master like all well scripted movies.

Round 5 vs Jeremy Blair playing Kilzin of the Bloodscalp

After our heated fight on the forums we were playing for all the marbles.  My EA’s against his humiliation that will be written all over the web.  Our game was super close, but Jeremy made a mistake that cost him.  The nice guy that I am, I decided that if he had the win on board and couldn’t pull it off I would still give him the elusive EA.

I ended up going 4-1.  I had a blast hanging out.  I had fun beating Jeremy Blair, and even more fun seeing the WoW TCG crowd in Orlando, Florida. Thanks to Cool Stuff and all the people who made this event possible.

P.S. Let me know what you think of how I built my Sealed deck, here are the rest of the cards that I didn’t play:

Wow, all those cool Hunter cards and you passed it up. I guess the lack of good equipment made that choice.

Congrats on the 4-1. You obviously made the right choice :)

Cheers.
