Playtesting Arena Grand Melee

As predicted briefly on the forums, playtesting Arena Grand Melee was challenging at times for us. The following is a list of some of the reasons why. Enjoy!

Up first is the card that was never a positive flip for us.

If only we could develop at GenCon.

And to answer a question on the forums, yep, if you are working at a store, you draw 2, then discard your hand. Sorry.

The next 3 cards are tough for us for very similar reasons.

Cards from the current set that we are testing don't gain flavor text until the end of development.

Ditto reminder text.

100% of our playtest cards are sleeved (except sometimes our heroes).

The next couple of cards deal with the definition of 'owns'.

It sure is easy to rip up playtest cards, both physically and emotionally.

We aren't ever at a loss for packs here. Thanks Upper Deck!

This card is fun when everyone is trying to call the same person in the room and that person knows what's going on. But when you call someone in a different department and they play along, and then wander over asking what in tarnation is going on, it's especially hilarious.

This card can certainly skew some playtesting of 'real' cards.

I hope you enjoy playing AGM as much as we enjoyed making it.

What is your funniest AGM moment?

Our classic moment in testing came last night. We got the 'You may throw Wow cards at the ceiling, and the first person that hits the ceiling with a card.........'

I immediately started flinging cards from my hand at the ceiling, and hit with about the 3rd own. Only then did we realize the reward - You may put it into your hand!!!

LOL

I'm so bringing some spare copies of Sayge, The More the Scarier etc. to the real AGM bash on Satruday :)

Cheers.

Landing a Finishing Shout the turn after the critter card was flipped was hilarious. Also, turning over the Edward ongoing card followed by the card that made the current ongoing stick for the rest of the game was, well... interesting xD

Raid cards are good for throwing at the ceiling :) Burninate ftw lol

We got "The Perfect Ally" right before the one that makes the ongoing stick...that kinda sucked for the Warriors at the table lol

for me it was having the card "everyone has 10 seconds to put a card you own on top of your deck" so the guy on my side puts illidan on top only to see the next event say "take the top card of your opponents deck you may play it for free this game..." turn 3 illidan anyone....... also turn 4 gorehowl when your first card is free... lol

I had a similar moment with the cards on the ceiling. As soon as the card was revealed, everyone went to their collection to find a card. I did the same, hitting up my black ice deck and, since I already know how to throw a card long distances, I nailed it before anyone else did. Then I realized the reward was to put THAT card into your hand... and I happened to have grabbed a Korthas of all cards. :P

BTW: We're thinking of banning the 'If an on-going Arena card is in play, it stays in play for the rest of the game' card. We got that when the 'Whispering' card was in play, and had to whisper the entire game - NOT FUN!!!!

Cheers.

We played two games this weekend.
We managed to get the " 'If an on-going Arena card is in play, it stays in play for the rest of the game'" for "unsleaved cards are untargetable and elusive"... 3/4 players then had elusive and untargetable heros.   After about 10 minutes of playing, we decided to count the number of cards left in our decks, and that player was the winner.

The next game, I had onyxia in play, and was attempting to take on thoros... He had about 4-5 cards left in his deck, and I was currently in stage 3 with about 10-12 resources in play.  Off the top of the AGM deck I get the card "destroy all opposing rare and epic cards" and clear his board.  ONyxia swings in for a lot, but not enough for hte kill.
Next turn, he flips over the AGM card that says "you may replay any previously used AGM card".. he chose the "destroy all opposing rare and epic cards"... Unfortuantely, onyxia is a "rare" card.. and I was instnatly slain.

Ouch.

We are seriously thinking of taking out the 'If an on-going Arena card is in play, it stays in play for the rest of the game' card out of the deck. Too many potential horrible situations.

Cheers.
