Vs. System Update—What’s Going Down in Vs. Town!
The Champ Is Here!
If you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past couple of weeks, you might not know that the inaugural Vs. World Championship was held at the Origins Game Fair in Columbus, Ohio, a few weeks ago. With nearly 130 players in attendance, the event was hard fought, but there could be only one winner . . . and that man was Brian Eugenio! Brian, hailing from San Jose, California, piloted his self-created Sniper Shot abuse deck through the Top 8 to best Matthew Ross and his Secret Avenger deck in the finals.
Brian’s deck is truly a wonder to behold. It takes full advantage of the new Marvel Universe cards by allowing him to fill up his Sniper Shot once a turn through a combination of Carrying the Torch and The Captain, as well as some actual Punishers. For some comprehensive coverage about what went down at Worlds, you should take a look at the terrific work by Miguel Rodriguez and Billy Zonos.
Here is Brian’s decklist:

For his hard work, Brian received a bunch of cool electronic loot, headlined by a MacBook Pro. Brian also took home an original piece of art (Ra’s al Ghul) and possibly the most exciting trophy of all time: a two-foot-tall Galactus. Even more cool is that Brian’s face will appear on a special Super-Skrull card in Marvel Evolution!
Evolutionary, My Dear Watson
Speaking of Marvel Evolution . . . I was able to sneak out some images of the upcoming expansion to show you guys.
I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s some of the coolest package art we’ve seen in quite a while. Marvel Evolution will not only see some new keywords (Shift, Hunter, and Energize), but it will also see the inclusion of the X-Force, X-Factor, Marauders, and Exiles teams, as well as a few other, not to mention very cool, additions to the Vs. universe. With awesome fan-favorite heroes such as Cyclops, Gambit, and Deadpool (among others) that will be featured as legends in this expansion, this set will take Vs. System to its next evolutionary level!
A Bigger Universe
Upper Deck is pleased to announce a limited additional printing of the latest Vs. System expansion, Marvel Universe, due to overwhelming demand. Upper Deck understands the importance of retaining a high standard of value for collectors of its products, but the customers have spoken: there simply isn’t enough product to go around! With the extremely quick sell-out of Marvel Universe, it’s clear that there is a huge gap between the community demand for the product and the existing supply. To keep both players and collectors happy, Upper Deck will produce a limited additional quantity of Marvel Universe. Look for it this September!
League of Extraordinary Hobbies
The Hobby League hits high gear this month, with the first ever “Bring Your Own Team” Golden Age event. The deckbuilding rules for this event mean that your deck can only contain cards that reference or have the affiliation of a chosen team (or none at all!).
But the most important part of this event is the loot! Each player who participates in this event gets an Iron Man, Ultimates card.

If you perform well and come in places 2nd through 4th, you’ll get your mitts onto this card…

Finally, if you happen to be the winner... Hulk might come smashing your way!

But not only will you have a green Goliath to show off for your hard work, but you’ll win one of the coolest Vs. System playmats ever!

Point (Cards), Larusso!
For those of you waiting for some new DCX cards at the points store, wait no longer. We have just put up Agility, Alan Scott, Bring It On, Guy Gardner, Jared Stevens <> Fate, and Royal Flush Gang, so I hope you’ve saved up your points to get some cool cards for your favorite deck!
