Marvel Origins General Questions |
|
| Q: |
Are you really going to put three sets out in the first month? |
|
| A: |
No. The only releases for month one (which is April, because the release is the last day of March) are the X-Men Vs. Brotherhood
starters and the Origins boosters. Note that the cards in the starters are from the full 220-card set. All starters will have the same contents and will include
two foil rares, Magneto and Wolverine. |
|
| Q: |
Just to clarify--the X-Men Vs. Brotherhood starter is not a separate set from Origins; the starter, from what I understand,
consists of two 40-card preset decks (an X-Men deck and a Brotherhood deck) made up of cards from Origins. |
|
| A: |
Correct. |
|
| Q: |
So then Children of the Atom would be an expansion, but from what I hear, if it exists, it will likely be held off for a while... |
|
| A: |
There is no Children of the Atom expansion. That was the first name for the game that was scheduled for release in November 2003. The
first set is called Origins. Children of the Atom is now the name of a plot twist card appearing in the Origins set (and a damn good one too). |
|
| Q: |
What about future expansions? How big will they be? Will they have any rares or chase cards? Will there be a new starter with each set?
Will Spider-Man and the Avengers still be next? |
|
| A: |
After Origins, which focuses heavily on the X-Men and Fantastic Four (as well as their enemies), we will be releasing expansions based
on other iconic Marvel heroes, such as Spider-Man and the Avengers. The current plan is for each expansion to be accompanied by a two-player starter set featuring
two of the new teams or factions. In general, there are two sizes of expansions: 220 card sets and 165 card sets. |
|
| Q: |
Seeing as there are no rares of any sort, will there be hard-to-get commons, or can I get a full set by buying one box of boosters? |
|
| A: |
There has been a fair bit of confusion on this point. In the Marvel game, there will not be super-rares, ultra-rares, or rarities of
any level that you are not guaranteed to get in a booster. However, like in many trading card games (TCGs), there will be commons, uncommons, and one rare in each pack.
There will be a foil in every pack, too. |
|
| Q: |
So far, while the art on the cards is pretty good, most of it looks very similar. Is this just because what I've seen is very limited, or
is it a set standard you have for the cards? |
|
| A: |
All the card art is really good. Our Art Director is Mark Irwin, a professional comic book inker who has worked for both Wildstorm and
Heavy Metal and inked on most major titles during his career. Mark knows many of the top-name artists in the industry and is very dedicated to getting us the best the
industry can offer. As for the art seeming similar, you can bet that in the final set you'll see more of a range of styles and colors in the images. |
