CARLSBAD, CA -- June 6, 2007 – Beginning this month, Upper Deck Entertainment (UDE) will be offering Vs. System™ fans a new way to qualify for the prestigious Pro Circuit Tournament. With UDE’s new Elite Series program, players will not only have a chance to test their skills against the world’s top Vs. System players, but will also have a chance to win prizes exclusive to the Elite Series program. Held once every three months, the weekend-long event will be featured at various hobby store locations across the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom beginning Saturday and Sunday, June 23 and 24.
“The Elite Series events were created based on feedback we received from players who wanted an event that awarded Pro Circuit points and one that provided a more competitive environment,” said Scott Gaeta, Vs. System Brand Manager. “This is exactly what the Elite Series format is all about. UDE is very excited about this new tournament series and hope the players will be too.”
Top Elite Series finishers will be awarded points based on their standings (1st place – 10 points, 2nd place – 5 points, 3rd and 4th place – 2 points, and 5th through 10th place – 1 point). Players with 10 cumulative points qualify for a seat at the Pro Circuit Tournament, which is a 30 C-Value event. Additionally, top finishers will be awarded prizes exclusive to the tournament, which include Extended Art foil cards (“Enemy of My Enemy”), promo cards (“Big Leagues”) and Elite Series playmats (“Dr. Doom”).
Hobby stores running the Elite Series tournament are also offering sponsorships through its individual Vs. System Hobby League program, in which one player from each store will be given a free entry into the Elite Series tournament.
The initial launch of the Elite Series program will feature a Sealed Pack format utilizing the recently released Marvel Team-Up expansion set (five booster packs) in addition to a Booster Draft for the top eight finishers.
