    Confusion with reinforcement conditions

I do not remember if i had read this in one of the posts or heard it from one of the players i played.

Is it true that when you attack with a character and in the verge of becoming stunned by the defender, can the attacker be allowed to become reinforced by a character adjacent to the attacker to avoid endurance lost to the attackers owner?(hope this makes sense)

I think that person was confused...

    Re: Confusion with reinforcement conditions

507.1C Any player may play a reinforcement game-based effect that reads “Target defender you control has reinforcement this attack,” with a cost of exhausting a support row character that shares an affiliation with and is adjacent to the defender. (See rule 708.7b.)

701.10a Characters attacking a character with reinforcement can't cause breakthrough.

These entries from the complete rules document should answer your questions. Only defenders can be reinforced during an attack. Reinforcement only prevents breakthrough. Reinforced characters still take stun damage. Defenders do not cause breakthrough, so reinforcing an attacker will not prevent any damage. A character needs "invulnerability" to prevent stun damage.

    Re: Confusion with reinforcement conditions

I have explained that the game allows the player to reinforce by exhausting an adjacent character, but by the way it is stated that 'Any player may play a reinforcement game-based effect', he thinks it is referring to plot twists...

of course you can use plot twists that can reinforce attackers, but how can i tell him that you cannot reinforce(via exhaust adjacent character) an attacker...

    Re: Confusion with reinforcement conditions

Breakthrough damage is only dealt to the defender, so there is  no need to reinforce an attacking character even though it can be done through plot twists (typically to qualify for other modifiers).

As for explaining he can't exhaust an adjacent character to the attacker, that is defined in the comp rules (See quote above) that explain the reinforcement game mechanic. The key part that you are looking for is where it says 'Target DEFENDER has reinforcement" since that means the character has to be a defender not an attacker.

Also just one more point of clarification, the reinforcing character must be adjacent AND in the support row AND it must share a team affiliation.
