    Player drinking alcohol while playing

    Hi,
I cant seem to figure out what to do when a player brings a beer to a sanctioned tournament and drinks it while playing.

He drank at least 2, maybe more, you could spot he acted a bit 'different', but on the other hand he didnt cause any major disruptions to the game. He was just probably a little more noisy than the average player, and was a bit 'uncomfortable' opponent to play against.

Is there any tournament policy handling this? It would seem to me he wouldnt be allowed to play, but this happened at a realm championship event and he played 6 rounds like this, only missing top8 in the last round.

    Thanks.

There is nothing in the UDE policies (that I can recall) that addresses this issue.  This is something the TO or store owner would need to address with that player as to whether they are breaking any of their policies.

I think the first thing to look at would be if he/she is breaking any local laws.

This was also occuring at DMF Boston. There were several players that were drinking on site. But I also believe they have had a on site bar before. So i'm not sure how this should be handled if it's acceptable etc.

As long as the player is in compliance with all applicable laws, and is in compliance with the site's rules about food and beverages, we're okay with it. The player is still expected to follow our tournament rules, so if the player becomes belligerent or unsporting in any manner, we will still apply penalties, and if necessary remove them from the venue.

Basically, our policy is that as long as players aren't breaking laws, site rules and our rules, they are allowed to enjoy themselves. However, before anyone brings a six-pack to your next Battlegrounds event, I would encourage them to check with the Tournament Organizer/Store Owner for their policies/rules about this.
