    Depressing day

    I can't believe they're canceling this game.

This is probably one of the most well balanced TCGs I've played, and the fact that after 5 years things haven't gotten silly broken says a whole lot.

    Re: Depressing day

There were 3 main problems that lead to this.

    1. The game is not simple to teach (at least not to teach properly). You can get the basics down quickly but to really teach the game so that players could play in a tournament without questions usually took me about 30 minutes (a little less if they were familiar with TCGs in general). It truly is a nearly perfect game, but as far as teaching it, I often compare it to Chess and the other TCGs as Checkers.

    2. When UD released the game they focused so much on the premiere events, they were not able to provide enough support for the local stores and hobby leagues. By the time the realized that mistake many of the local stores had given up on the game. At least that is what happened in most of the local areas I've visited. They have learned from that mistake and are focusing WoW more on all levels which will hoefully make it a stronger game.

    3. Due to the fact that UD had to keep both Marvel and DC happy, they had to release 4 sets per year (2 of each). Also inorder for each set to be balanced it needed to be a decent size. They experimented with a smaller set with the Spiderman release and that set was very weak and not well liked except by the die hard spidey fans (like myself). This was just too many cards for the average player to be able to acquire and assimilate. By the time the metagame incorporated the latest set and started to stabalize, the next set would be released and the metagame would shift all over again.

    Re: Depressing day

I too am very, very saddened by the loss of this game.  As a fan/player/ and retailer.  I had just gotten my league community up from 3 players [including myself] to a stable group of 8 [with up to 12].

A couple of other factors that I think contributed to this are:

#1 - UDE went and made a another game to compete with itself - Marvel Battles I think?  Why would any one do that?

#2 - They did not keep fresh starters out there.  The 'movie' starters for Batman, FF, and the X-Men were the last starters they put out.  At least the last affordable starters for introducing new players to the game.

#3 - They overpriced themselves with the HELLBOY and COMING OF GALACTUS kits.  Look at the packaging on those things. I would think that they could have done those at 1/3 to 2/3 of the price if they just handled the packaging better.  And that would have made them an easier sell to new customers.

#4 - They started treating it like a dead game over 8 months ago.  Look at the webpage, it was so outdated.  I think [repeat I think] that WOW came along and all of a sudden VS seemed like more work than it was worth.  Look at the shipping of items from the UDE points store.  Eight months ago the turn around on that went from 8 to 10 weeks to 6 to 8 MONTHS! Then look at the promo card CLASH OF WORLDS, one of the most desireable promo cards every, at a good point cost, 'sold' out in what 48 hours?  How did they not see that that was a card that was going to MOVE and be in hight demand and print it accordingly?  I think it was because they didn't care anymore.  And I think [repeat I think] that players saw this, and read the writing on the wall, and began to move away from the game.

    Re: Depressing day

    Yeah! It's so depressing!

I played VS. in Switzerland and there have been no releases about the last 20 month...
I took a break from my work as League-Leader, TO and Judge and now that I found back to this wonderful TCG I have to find out that it's dead... :-(

    I'm so sad about!
I just hope that someday - not to far - UDE will bring this game back!
