Hi everyone,
Summer is just about upon us, and for those of us who game that means Convention Season! GenCon 2008 will run from Thursday August 14 until Sunday August 17th, and Upper Deck plans on an even bigger presence this year! We can’t make that happen without our volunteers, however, so I’m looking for 10 -12 demo volunteers to help staff the brand-new booth. We have a lot to demo this year – the new World of Warcraft Miniatures game is bound to be a big draw and we’ll be running several tables to show these off, as well as World of Warcraft TCG. Yu-Gi-Oh! is about to enter a new incarnation with a new show and some alterations to the rules of the TCG, so we’ll need Specialists who can educate the public about these changes. Our new Real Time Trading Card game, Call of Duty, will also have a strong presence at the convention and we’ll need some of you to showcase it.
We need energetic, outgoing and professional demo volunteers to work alongside the crew from Upper Deck – the more games you know and can demo, the better! We’ll be providing training for all the games, particularly our newest ones, and encourage all volunteers to learn as many as possible. Booth hours this year will be:
Thursday, August 14th – 9:00 am to 6:00 pm
Friday, August 15th – 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
Saturday, August 16h – 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
Sunday, August 17th – 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
Don’t let scheduling issues put you off if you won’t be available for the entire convention - if you would be only be available for some of the days, we can probably work you into the schedule. We’ll be as flexible with scheduling as possible, but remember we will need you to spend a significant amount of time in the booth. Please don’t volunteer just to get a free badge to participate in the convention, with the idea that you’ll only put in a few hours of booth time.
I’m currently working out details for what Upper Deck can provide by way of sponsorship – I do want to provide rooms but travel sponsorship might be out of the budget. We will be providing badges as always, and a product gift at the end of the convention to thank you for your time and effort.
If you’d like to apply as a demo volunteer, please send your name, UDE number, and a short description of your experiences as a Specialist or judge. Let me know what games you are familiar with, if you’d like to learn and demo any new ones, and what your schedule is like. Also, if you would need a hotel room mention that – if you live close enough that you don’t need a room, mention that as well! Send your emails to demo@upperdeck.com, and thanks again for the effort you put towards promoting the Upper Deck brands. I look forward to hearing from you.
