This is especially helpful to players who are ramping up to play a high-cost card, such as Illidan or Gorehowl. A typical scenario plays out thusly:
~On turn 7, Player A draws, then places a resource right away, quietly and unceremoniously. This player may perform 1-2 other actions (such as attacking or completing a quest), then asks Player B, "Did I place a resource? I don't think I did."

Essentially, in SOME cases such as this (sometimes not, as players ARE human and do make mistakes), Player A is checking to see if Player B is paying attention to what's going on, and is prepared to take advantage of Player B in the event they are uncertain.

Now, for this example, let's say Player B has been tracking the resources on paper and is fully aware that Player A placing an additional resource would violate the rule. Here are a few questions:
1) Is Player B's (written) knowledge of the situation public information, and should be announced in order to prevent Player B from breaking P703 - Misrepresenting Information (detailed below)?
2) Let's say Player B responds to Player A's question in a non-committal fashion, such as "If you think you haven't placed a resource yet, you could do so" (or Player A simply says "You're wrong - you've skipped placing resources"). Player A then places a resource. Assuming the newly faced down resource is indistinguishable from others in the row, what penalty might apply? Normally, I'd say this sounds like P304 - Failure to Maintain Game State (detailed below), but a face-down resource swap could conceivably occur if the game state is simply corrected by asking Player A to put the extra resource back into their hand.
3) For our scenario, is it safe to rule out that Player A is not violating P702 - Game Object Manipulation (detailed below), since he essentially asked permission to do so from Player B?

P304 Failure to Maintain Game State
This infraction occurs when player’s fail to notice a rules violation committed by their teammate or opponent. Since it is the responsibility of all players to maintain the correct game state, this infraction is usually the counter-part to other Game Error type infractions. This penalty is issued to opponents or teammates that could have noticed the error, but did not.
Judges should not issue this penalty to players that had no opportunity to notice or correct Game Error type infractions. This happens when the error occurs with private information or the error is immediately noticed by a player.
The penalty for Failure to Maintain Game State is a Warning for both Rules Levels.
This penalty should never be upgraded, as it would discourage players that discovered the error from calling a judge.

P702 Game Object Manipulation
This infraction occurs when a player manipulates cards, or game mechanics. This includes, but is not limited to, intentionally drawing extra cards, changing the game state, or marking cards.
Manipulating cards or game mechanics destroys tournament integrity, places unnecessary burden on tournament officials, and creates a negative experience for competitors.
The penalty for Game Object Manipulation is a Disqualification for both Rules Levels.

P703 Misrepresenting Information
This infraction occurs when a player intentionally misrepresents public information to their opponent, or any kind of information to tournament officials. This includes, but is not limited to, omitting damage, misrepresenting rules or policies, misrepresenting an event that happened during the game, and lying to tournament officials.
While bluffing is a component of trading card games, players may not lie about public information to their opponents and may never give incorrect information to tournament officials.
The penalty for Misrepresenting Information is a Disqualification for both Rules Levels.

Upper Deck Store not following UDE Rules.

The UD Store in Hunnington Beach needs new people to run it.

They do not in ANY WAY follow 80% of the UDE Rules for WOW TCG.

1) Announced a top 8 then decided not to have it after last round was finished due to Manager wanting to leave.

2) had a 30+ Realm Qualifier which accoarding to UDE polocies requires you to have at least 2 Judges. In this event not only was the head Judge incompetent but one of my friends was having to help out as a player to make calles the head judge was supposed to be making.

3) They never Sell singles nor do they Ever bring in a outside distributer for the events that they hold. This is also a supposed requirement for holding events larger than store level.

4) 4 round tournament for a 42 person sneak peek. This is absolutly rediculess.

I would very much like to have Ry or someone else that has any say over this to please let me know whats going on because i have quite a few people who are both upset and discouraged from ever playing there again due to the lack of rule folowing that is taking place in that store.

I would expect that as the UDE store they would hold them selves in a it higher standard rather than just slack off and break whatever rules they feel like it at the time.

Thanks in advance for any response.

-Mitch
Ranking and Rating

I wish there would be a way to have the MANTIS to display the players Rating and Ranking, the ranking of course from the local player list.

Talking about the rating system, I would like to know if there are any plans to change the current rating method. I mean, the point accumulation is used on many sports, but in modern days, the tendency for ratings is derived from ELO, where it takes into account not only the fact that you won or lost, but rather who was it that you lost or won against. So I would like to know of you plan on changing from the fixed stepping system that basically rewards the player with most wins rather than the player with the most skills.

Rgrds

Small update to Appendix C: WoW TCG Policies

Hello all,

I just wanted to point out the small update added

Been playing about a week or so and competed in my local regionals - made top 8 with a different deck, took it home and tried to break it apart and build something a little better.

Here's what I've come up with - really appreciate any thoughts.

Majors:

3x Dominator
3x Gar-Ghoul
1x Shauna and Wind
2x Grier, Organization Commander
1x Fireblade
1x Sunhawk

First up, I want to cut one sunhawk and probably one garghoul for one more fireblade and an extra Shauna and Wind. More or less I want fatties that can sweep a board (gar-ghoul + strikemode is a very nasty trick) and the other guys support the recursion engine. Grier is in because he's just awsome with the Dark Pharoah...

Minors:

3x Dark Pharoah, Sand Snake
3x Redcap
3x Crashion
2x Metzi
2x Ice Creature
2x Invisible Knight

The core of the deck is Crashion/Invisible Knight/Fireblade - Ice Creature also has a nice synergy there too. Crash/Invis knight on their own really get the cards flying - if I had a third Invis Knight, I'd play him probably in lieu of the third redcap. Bouncing Grier sometimes works nicely too for extra tokens.

Importantly, anyone other than Ice Creature can cut down Caliban with Strikemode - while not a great trade, still better than it might be (and a straight 2 for 2 swap if I get him after one round).

Combat Actions:

2x Ferocity
2x Sneaky Retreat
2x Strikemode

I tried Darkvoids, but I just didn't like them - most of the time Strikemode was more useful for wiping the board: I get more 2 for 1s with Strikemode. Sneaky Retreat is just pure awesome in this deck.

Exhaust Actions:

3x Flashbulb
2x Raypulse
1x Ace in the Hole

Free Actions:

2x Ambush

I've tried a couple different things here like Darkwave and Acidheart, but I kept finding myself pitching them. Raypulse has been a real winner, setting up my fatties for crushing blockers - pull a 2nd/third guy in and scoop em all up.

The deck definitely plays with attrition in mind - ideally you want to trade your units to clean your opponent's board and recur your units with fireblade to ensure you have not only the pieces you need to trade well, but also to ensure you have a constant stream of minors.

One change I'll definitely make, until I can get a hold of a 2nd Shauna and Wind, will be adding in an Amulet of Behemoth and Behemoth - not ideal, but Behemoth is very fat and should be able to trade for 2-3 cards.

As far as missions go, I'm really not sure what I really want to go with. I very much wanted to have it running (since, you know, it's impossible to sanction events without it) and this is what I finally ended up doing:

Download Sun VirtualBox from here and install it.

Install a copy of Windows XP on a VirtualBox Guest machine.

Install the .NET framework 1.1 from here on your VirtualBox Guest machine.

Install and run MANTIS using VirtualBox.

This works more or less perfectly, with the drawback that you will need a Windows XP CD and corresponding Windows XP CD-key to use this solution. I'm still working on a way to get MANTIS running under just Wine; I'll keep you all posted.

Evil!
We need confirmation of whether Prophet Velen's ability triggers off of totems. Right now the wording suggests it does, however some testing seems to indicate that if it would, that would make the figure overpowered, so we are wondering if this interaction was intentional and whether it will be errata'd out. Realms is very soon and Spoils of War will be legal there, so people are anxious for a quick answer.

Needed Card

I need card number 085 Jeweled Colossus I need 2 to complete my first deck if anyone has extra plz let me know
Can I make broken events go away?

There were a couple of events that I ran in which a player dropped during the event. Say round 3 player x dropped. The tournament completes out, finals are played. However, before the event was closed and submitted the player was clicked and re-enrolled (by accident I didn't mean to). This froze up the program. Every time the event is selected now it freezes mantis and I have to force it closed and restart it...

Is there a way to take these events out of the drop list so that can't happen any more?

Also when/how can I get mantis to update it's document section?
The most notable change is the clarification that a player does not
have to choose 2 ABCs for their character if they do not wish. They
may choose up to 2.

Also, there is a new check for tiebreakers during End of Match Procedures. It is the final check to apply:

"A player or team wins the match if he or she is closer in victory points to the total number of victory points that he or she needs to normally win.

If both players or both teams are an equal number of victory points away from a win, each character on or adjacent to a Victory Point location scores 1 additional point for its party. Totals are again compared to see who is closer to the total number of victory points that they need to normally win. The person or team closer to the victory point total needed for their party is the winner. In the case of one or both players or teams exceeding the number of victory points that they need to normally win, the person or team exceeding by more victory points is the winner.

If both totals are either equal distance away from their victory point totals, or are both over the victory point totals by the same amount, the player or team whose party costs the most honor is the winner of the game.

If both parties cost the same amount of honor, players tally damage on all characters they control with honor 1 or greater. The side that is has the most damage on their characters loses. It's possible that both players have equal amount of damage on their party. In this case, play continues until a damage change causes damage totals not to be equal. The player with the most damage on their characters loses."

Enjoy!
