    Multiple Triggered Replacement Effects

Essentially, the ultimate question here is, is Aleyah's Blessing of Sacrifice an Ongoing triggered Ability, or just a Triggered Ability?

This is the board set up: http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t351/Steelwing73/map.jpg

Pink: Aleyah Dawnbringers, each equipped with Hand of Rag

Orange: Any other mini on the same team with Aleyahs

Green: Hunter, opposing mini, attacking the Orange Mini with a ranged attack

Scenario one:  Green Hunter throws 6 successes.  Orange Mini resists 1 and takes 5 damage total.  My understanding of competing replacement effects would be that the player owning the replacement effects chooses which one triggers first, so left Aleyah (as you are looking at it now) has her blessing of sacrifice trigger, absorbs two damage, and her Hand of Ragnaros deals one back to the Green Hunter.  Then, there is 3 damage left to go onto the Orange Mini, but the Right Aleyah’s replacement effect would now trigger, and take 2 damage, thus triggering her Hand of Ragnaros, dealing one more damage back to the Green Hunter.  Then the Orange Mini takes 1 damage.

Scenario two:  Green Hunter throws 3 successes.  Orange Mini resists 1 and takes 2 total damage.  Again, since there are competing replacement effects, the controlling player chooses one, presumably on the Aleyah with the highest health, to have that one’s blessing of sacrifice kick in, takes two damage, Hand triggers, and deals one back, and the other Aleyah has nothing happen as there is no more damage for her replacement effect to absorb.  Orange mini takes 0.

Sound about right?  In short, trying to nail down what happens with two Aleyah’s in play, hand really doesn’t matter much, it’s moreso the competing replacement effect situation.

My thinking is that 704.3 talks about multiple non-triggered ongoing abilities with the same name being the ones that can't effect a mini at once.  I always get confused on what constitutes triggered ability vs an ongoing triggered ability.

    Re: Multiple Triggered Replacement Effects

Looks like the ending damages are correct in both scenarios. 2-1-2 in scenario one and 2-0-0 in scenario two. However, I'm not sure if the way you resolve the damage in scenario one is correct. Siggie or Simon might need to correct me on this one, but I was under the impression that all the damage in scenario one is dealt simultaneously. Even though BoS is replacing the attack damage, all the damage is still dealt upon final resolution after all replacement modifiers had been applied. The attacker should only take 1 damage since both BoSs are trying to deal one damage at the same time.

    Re: Multiple Triggered Replacement Effects

    WoW Minis OCR:
Blessing of Sacrifice: If an adjacent ally would be dealt attack damage, the first 2 damage is dealt to Aleyah instead.
Blessing of Sacrifice is a Replacement Effect notable by the words 'would' and 'instead'...It is not a triggered ability or effect.

There is only one 'first' damage that can be dealt.  If that 'first' damage is replaced, then any other replacement effects waiting to replace that 'first' damage to that same character will not replace any remaining damage being dealt to that character.

    So, this means that....

    Scenario 1:
There is 5 damage coming to Orange.
There are two replacement effects that want to replace the first 2 of that 5 damage.
You must choose 1 of those two and apply it.
    You choose Pink Left.
The remaining 3 damage is not considered to be 'first' damage.
Pink Right's replacement effect is not applied since there is no more 'first' damage being dealt to Orange.
End result, Orange takes 3 and Pink Left takes 2 (triggering Rag).  The attacker takes 1 from Rag.

    Scenario 2:
There is 2 damage coming to Orange.
There are two replacement effects that want to replace the first 2 of that 2 damage.
You must choose 1 of those two and apply it.
    You choose Pink Left.
There is no remaining damage so Pink Right's replacement effect is not applied since there is no more 'first' damage being dealt to Orange.
End result, Orange takes 0 and Pink Left takes 2 (triggering Rag).  The attacker takes 1 from Rag.

    Re: Multiple Triggered Replacement Effects

709.2 If multiple effects are competing to replace the same event, one is chosen and applied. Then, if one or more effects are still competing to replace the modified event, another is chosen and applied, and so on. In each case, the next effect to be applied is chosen as follows:

Replacement Effects aren't treated as Triggered Effects, so rule 704 isn't applicable.  On the event that your Orange mini takes 5 damage (example 1) both Aleyah's Blessing of Sacrifice try to replace the same event (the first 2 damage of an attack).  You would then choose 1 of them to replace the damage.  The eventual outcome will be the orange mini will be dealt 3 damage and one of the Aleyahs 2 damage.  Only 1 of the Sulfuras will trigger, because only one of the Aleyah's were dealt damage by the attack.

The 2nd Scenario can be solved the same way with only one Aleyah taking damage.

Doh Simon beat me to it.  =)

    Re: Multiple Triggered Replacement Effects

Oh, reading effects helps. I missed the "first" part in the effect.
