Just one calorie... not evil enough?
Not yet anyway. Been playing about a week or so and competed in my local regionals - made top 8 with a different deck, took it home and tried to break it apart and build something a little better.
Here's what I've come up with - really appreciate any thoughts.
Majors:
3x Dominator
3x Gar-Ghoul
1x Shauna and Wind
2x Grier, Organization Commander
1x Fireblade
1x Sunhawk
First up, I want to cut one sunhawk and probably one garghoul for one more fireblade and an extra Shauna and Wind. More or less I want fatties that can sweep a board (gar-ghoul + strikemode is a very nasty trick) and the other guys support the recursion engine. Grier is in because he's just awsome with the Dark Pharoah...
Minors:
3x Dark Pharoah, Sand Snake
3x Redcap
3x Crashion
2x Metzi
2x Ice Creature
2x Invisible Knight
The core of the deck is Crashion/Invisible Knight/Fireblade - Ice Creature also has a nice synergy there too. Crash/Invis knight on their own really get the cards flying - if I had a third Invis Knight, I'd play him probably in lieu of the third redcap. Bouncing Grier sometimes works nicely too for extra tokens.
Importantly, anyone other than Ice Creature can cut down Caliban with Strikemode - while not a great trade, still better than it might be (and a straight 2 for 2 swap if I get him after one round).
Combat Actions:
2x Ferocity
2x Sneaky Retreat
2x Strikemode
I tried Darkvoids, but I just didn't like them - most of the time Strikemode was more useful for wiping the board: I get more 2 for 1s with Strikemode. Sneaky Retreat is just pure awesome in this deck.
Exhaust Actions:
3x Flashbulb
2x Raypulse
1x Ace in the Hole
Free Actions:
2x Ambush
I've tried a couple different things here like Darkwave and Acidheart, but I kept finding myself pitching them. Raypulse has been a real winner, setting up my fatties for crushing blockers - pull a 2nd/third guy in and scoop em all up.
The deck definitely plays with attrition in mind - ideally you want to trade your units to clean your opponent's board and recur your units with fireblade to ensure you have not only the pieces you need to trade well, but also to ensure you have a constant stream of minors.
One change I'll definitely make, until I can get a hold of a 2nd Shauna and Wind, will be adding in an Amulet of Behemoth and Behemoth - not ideal, but Behemoth is very fat and should be able to trade for 2-3 cards.
As far as missions go, I'm really not sure what I really want to go with. The deck isn't super mobile, so things like Secrets of Ayers Rock are out; it works best with some set up time because cards like Crashion/Invisible Knight fix your hand.
Cheers!
