    Scourgewar Preview - Death Rattle

    Scourgewar Previews: Death Rattle
    by Matt Spreadbury

Hello everyone, and welcome to preview week! It's that exciting time of year when we get to see what the newest set has in store. What mechanics will be introduced? How will the new cards interact with the old ones? Preview articles and Sneak Previews are two of my favorite parts of the World of Warcraft TCG. Today’s article will debut a brand new keyword: Death Rattle.

Re: Scourgewar Preview - Death Rattle

I'm confused as to how death rattle still triggers on Call of the Grove if Call has been spell suppressed, could someone explain it please?

Re: Scourgewar Preview - Death Rattle

As part of the process of Call of the Grove being destroyed, it's put into the graveyard and Spell Suppression is immediately removed - this all happens during pre-priority processing - then once PPP is done, the Death Rattle triggered effect goes on the chain.

Not sure if that's right, but that's the only reasonable explanation that I can think of other than editorial error.

Re: Scourgewar Preview - Death Rattle

It triggers once it is in the graveyard, long after Spell Suppression is also in the graveyard.

So, here's the common question of one of these cards (play along if you want to troll):

If I place a quest with Call of the Grove and I place another quest with the additional resource, can I place yet another resource?

You would be allowed to play +1 resource for each copy of the ongoing in play. So, if you only have one Call to the Grove, then you could only play one additional resource.

Re: Scourgewar Preview - Death Rattle

So, Death Rattle is 'when this card enters the graveyard from anywhere...do X'. An interesting mechanic. The one with the top 3 cards and get a quest is horrible, but the 3 damage is nice. It will be interesting to see what other Death Rattling is in the set.

    Cheers.

"Unfortunately, the resource row is one of the places Call of the Grove can go that won't trigger Death Rattle, but that's a small price to pay."

    "
When you destroy a face down resource, it will enter the graveyard as itself, and trigger Death Rattle."

Umm... don't these statements contradict each other?

What you don't understand, you can make mean anything.

Re: Scourgewar Preview - Death Rattle

I was confused too at first, but I think he meant that placing it in the resource row doesn't trigger it.

I love this mechanic, so many interesting interactions.

Isn't this the same logic as if you have 2 abilities in your graveyard, Azjol-anak Webspinner gets +2+2?

Theres usually a trigger of when something is destroyed, ie vindicators brand, which can have the powers removed by spell suppression. But because it happens after it is destroyed and when it enters the graveyard, it has its powers by the time is hits the graveyard.

the first sentence he is talking about how death rattle wont trigger when it goes into the resource row... in this example he was talking about call of the grove gettiing rowed via utopia. in the second sentence he is talking about death rattle working going from the resource row to the gy.

Re: Scourgewar Preview - Death Rattle

I certainly hope each class only gets 1x Death Rattle card. The mechanic has the potential to become very degenerate even if the death rattle effect is rather 'bad,' so long as you can still fill your deck up with death rattle cards. Its a cool mechanic but also very dangerous and potentially threatening to the games overall long term health.

Re: Scourgewar Preview - Death Rattle

You could build a very powerful deck if you can play a bunch of these even if they were blank.

If a player has death rattle and cuts himself and dies does his death rattle trigger before he loses due to no longer being able to participate?
