With Scourgewar looming on the horizon, Phil's got one last look at Drums of War Block: his Worlds tournament report. While Phil didn't take home the gold, his team had a pretty successful outing. This is their story too!

Your articles are always a great read. This one is no exception.

Sorry you didn't make day 2.

    Cheers.

I really enjoyed the article. I like the deck. It's too bad you had such a tough time with it.
I do wonder though, what is the exact purpose of the Amani Mask of Death. I've seen it pop up in several decklists recently, but I'm not sure what it's supposed to do.

Re: Tools of the Trade - Day One Disaster

It punishes the opponent for trying to overextend with multiples of the same card. A particular example of this in the worlds meta was Spell Suppression and Everlasting Cold.

EDIT: Additionally, as you are playing solo, you generally won't have 2 cards out with the same name as they would occupy the same equipment slot, so it rarely affects you.

Re: Tools of the Trade - Day One Disaster

It's good in a meta where you expect 90% of the field to be using the same 5 cards.

    Something like that.

So, I guess in Block it's primarily anti-mage tech.

Also helps against a warlock with multiple backlashes out. (or anyone with, say, multiple dimzers, spelunkers, etc)

Re: Tools of the Trade - Day One Disaster

Yep, it's probably the best answer to Dimzer, since the probability of drawing 2 Dimzers with so much card draw is quite big. Also, it forces your opponent to think about either overextending and getting wiped by the Mask, or just doing nothing against Bracers and Cloak.
