Sunday at Sky High Comics - San Marcos, CA (UPDATE: October/Nov schedule update, Pre-Realm Champs prep Event)

UPDATE: Updated details for Pre-Realm Champs, LCQ details, all the way to the release celebration where (I think) the weekly battlegrounds will be going to Scourgewar draft.

    Sky High Comics
172 S Rancho Santa Fe Rd
    San Marcos, CA 92078

    Details:

Every Sunday at 1 PM, Sky High Comics will be running WoW TCG Constructed events. Entry is $5, prize payout is in WoW credit at the store (usable on any WoW boosters and singles available).

I realize that football season is rough in terms of schedule conflicts, so I think it is important to note that we have a pizza place that has two big screen TVs and an aptitude for sports in the same shopping center as the comic shop. If you decide not to play, or the tournament starts off sour for you, a place to get a beer and watch the day's games is literally only 20 steps away. :)

    Current Sky High WoW Schedule:

    11/8:
    -Tanaris Realm Pre-Championship Prep Tournament
    Entry: $10.00
    Starts: noon
Details: Think you're going to smoke the Tanaris Realm Championship? Put your money where your mouth is. In addition to Battlegrounds prizes (this is still an official Battlegrounds event), First place will receive a Owned! loot card!  If we break the 20 player barrier for this event, I'll also award a Pinata to first place. Random packs which either contain a random EA or a Badge of Justice to all those who enter, so come on down and show SoCal's players that you're taking the Championship down!

    11/13:
    -Tanaris Realm Last Chance Qualifier
    Entry: $10.00
    Starts: 3:00 PM
Details: Last chance to qualify for the Realm Championships and the sick prizes it offers. Come compete to see who gets second place to locked Realm Conqueror Corey Burkhart! :P
Standard Realm Qualifier prize breakdown. NOTE: I will be paying cash instead of store credit for all cards on buy-list for this event, and if you have any specific needs for this event or the Realm Championship, I'd advise you to let me know via PM ASAP so I can quote you on any prices as well as respectively add it to the buy-list at $1 less than I will charge you per card.

    11/15:
-Canceled. Get your butts down to the Realm Championship and support Victor's big TO job of the year in Mission Valley! :P

    11/21:
    -Scourgewar Sneak Preview
    Entry: $25.00
Format: Scourgewar Sealed (6 packs) see UDE page for details
BONUS: Bring a friend new to WoW, in addition to the bonus offered on UDE's site, I'll take $5.00 off your entry fee!!!
LIMIT OF 24 PLAYERS! PM ME TO PRE-REGISTER SO I KNOW YOU ARE COMING!

    11/27:
SCOURGEWAR ON SALE AT SKY HIGH COMICS!
    Black Friday Special!
Scougewar packs for sale at $3.00 a pack! Booster boxes for $69! Normal retail price on Scourgewar AFTER release day will be $3.99 per pack, with boxes selling for $88.
ALL singles in case are 20% off this day as well!
I will be available all Friday and will also be buying WoW cards. Buy-list will be available, but if you have anything to show I'll consider it. I will pay cash on Friday only. After 11/27, buy-list reverts back to WoW credit (soon to be redeemable on my trading thread here on the forums which will be created by next week), with a hefty reduction on what you get if you want cash instead.
If there is interest in booster drafts on Black Friday, I'll sanction them and run them. Cost would be $12 ON RELEASE DAY ONLY, with 5-3-1-1 pack pay out to first through fourth (assuming we have 8 players in a draft, number will adjust to accommodate less players if need be).

    11/29:
    -Scourgewar Release Event
    Entry: $25.00
Format: Scourgewar Sealed (6 packs). Swiss, prize payouts after swiss.
Prizes: Prize pool is in WoW Credit, $5.00 of each entry goes towards the pool awarded to the top players. First place gets a priest deck-box instead of normal Battlegrounds awards, random priest deck-box given as a door prize. Random Badge of Justice or rare given to each entry, in addition to the release celebration promo card.
BONUS: Same offer as the sneak preview. Bring a new friend for some sealed pack fun, get $5.00 off your entry.
SALES SPECIAL: For those who don't get their purchases in on Friday, shucks! No big discounts for you. However, I will offer 10% off on all WoW purchases for the release event, so if you can't make it out Friday, I'd recommend making it out to this.

    12/6:
I will be out of town for DMF Vegas, so singles purchases will not be up from December 4th to 6th. I will, however, schedule a booster draft event with Scourgewar that day. Cost of entry is $15.00. Each entrant contributes 2 packs to the prize pool with that entry cost, with Battlegrounds prizes included.

UPCOMING REALM QUALIFIER DATES AT SKY HIGH COMICS:

    -January 16th
    -February 27th

Re: Sunday Battlegrounds at Sky High Comics - San Marcos, CA (check back for updates!)

    Hey Mike, other Mike here...

I know Victor,  the guy who has runs the "BattleGroundSanDiego"  events, has an RQ in San Diego, scheduled for October 4th.  The location is TBA  (and apparently Vic  is MIA at the moment)   nevertheless you might want to think about moving the "big" tournament back or forward a week to avoid conflicting events.

Jose and I will be at the store the next few Sundays,  I will try and drag along a third guy who plays as well.

Re: Sunday Battlegrounds at Sky High Comics - San Marcos, CA (check back for updates!)

If Victor does indeed have a RQ on Sunday then I will move it to the next Sunday where there is no conflict. Hoping he comes in and lets me know about this. :)

Re: Sunday at Sky High Comics - San Marcos, CA (UPDATE: RCQ and battlegrounds start at 1 now!)

Bumping this one to the top as our official Tournaments thread. Take note of the updates: A Realm Qualifer is taking the place of our usual events on 10/4 at 11:00, and Battleground events have been changed to 1 PM instead of the usual 12 PM.

Re: Sunday at Sky High Comics - San Marcos, CA (UPDATE: October/Nov schedule update, Pre-Realm Champs prep Event)

Bumping this to the top. Be sure to check out the details for the Pre-Champs Prep Tourmament. If attendance hits 32 players, I'll see what I can do to really sweeten the top prizes (there will be a top 4/top 8 cut for this event).

Also, if you are interested in attending the Scourgewar Sneak Preview in San Diego, give me a call at (760) 458-4269, post here, or PM me. I'll be taking pre-registration money for this event, and pre-registering guarantees you a spot since we have a 24 player limit on product. If we somehow break past the 24 player limit or get close in pre-registration, I'll see what I can do to increase the amount of product available. Price for entry will be $25.00 (changed from 30 according to the web site, my bad guys).

Re: Sunday at Sky High Comics - San Marcos, CA (UPDATE: October/Nov schedule update, Pre-Realm Champs prep Event)

Hey Mike..  is the sneak peak set in stone to happen on the 21st?    We might get better attendance if you held it on the 22nd instead,  so it doesn't conflict with the upper deck store's sneak.

Just a thought...  I will be there either way

Re: Sunday at Sky High Comics - San Marcos, CA (UPDATE: October/Nov schedule update, Pre-Realm Champs prep Event)

I think that ultimately depends on how many people are willing to make a trip from the OC/Irvine area to San Diego for a second sneak peek. That is asking a lot from people's weekends, as it's still football season and it's another day but the same event.

It's still a good point though. I'll check with William and maybe I can find out how interested people outside a little farther North are for a Sunday event.

I'll be there if you host a Sneak Peek. 21st or 22nd, it doesn't matter

I think if you want to maximize turnout for the Scourgewar Sneak Peak, call UD Retail and ask them what day they're doing theirs... then switch this one to the opposite day.

Re: Sunday at Sky High Comics - San Marcos, CA (UPDATE: October/Nov schedule update, Pre-Realm Champs prep Event)

As an added bonus for making this upcoming sneak preview amazing, I'm extended a recruit-a-friend bonus to players.

I will give you a $5.00 discount on your Sneak Preview entry fee for each of the following players you bring to the sneak preview:

-A player who is new to the WoW TCG
-A player who has played the WoW TCG but has not played in a sanctioned event since August of 2008

This means that, theoretically, you can earn yourself a FREE sneak preview if you bring 5 of the above players with you to play November 21st. I want to make this event the biggest Sneak Preview in the United States, and this is a way to make sure that you are rewarded for helping in that cause.

Mike, I responded to your PM about the Sneak. I wish you the best of luck and will see what i can do to get you some players to your store. We get customers that are from SD just traveling and say "i dont have any hobby stores near me" - i can send them your way. Look forward to building a great community with you!

Re: Sunday at Sky High Comics - San Marcos, CA (UPDATE: October/Nov schedule update, Pre-Realm Champs prep Event)

Bumped. RQ dates for Sky High posted, more details as I receive more information.

Turnout for Pre-Realm Throwndown was 8 players. Tym Bradley won an Owned! loot card for being 3-0 at the end of the swiss, Michael Hayes came in 2nd for $24 in store credit. Brandon, a newcomer to the shop, had the "misfortune" of receiving a Gladiator Ryno out of the random EAs given away to the entrants..........which I said he could turn in for a National Championships 2009 playmat. Overall a fun day. :D

A big thanks for people making it out to this event. The next major event in San Diego is the Realm Championships weekend, so I expect to see the local crew down there having a blast. I'll be down there for the weekend helping out and doing some event coverage so that people who couldn't attend have updates and information regarding the event, and I'll also be bringing flyers for the San Diego Scourgewar Sneak Preview which will be held the following weekend.

    PM replied. :)

Sneak Preview this Saturday at noon! Can't wait!

Also, updated event schedule to include a Black Friday WoW special at Sky High. Come down to hang out, draft the new set while supplies last, and make your personal or holiday WoW purchases (you know your spouse wants that Flag of Ownership for his/her toon :P), or make your Scourgewar purchases before I run out for the weekend and have to restock. ;)
