Where are all the Boston Reports?

    Hi,

Only 1 so far. Where were the 'xxxx goes to Boston' Blogs?

I'l by going to NACC, so you can be assured there'll be a 'LankyBrit goes to Indy' thread.

    Cheers.

Re: Where are all the Boston Reports?

Here goes...my first tournament report ever...

    I played Jonas.

Round 1: vs. Cerripha Sunstreak - LOST
Round 2: vs. Lionar the Blood Cursed - WON
Round 3: vs. Martiana the Mind Wrench - LOST
Round 4: vs.  Marlowe the Felsworn - WON
Round 5: vs. Varanis Bitterstar - WON (on time)
Round 6: vs. Black Ice Fizzlefreeze - LOST
Round 7: vs. Jonas the Red - LOST (he turned into Onyxia...I got him to stage 3, he ate me)
Round 8: vs. Fallenstar - WON

Overall, I went 4-4 and finished 50th.  I was pleased with my performace though, since this was my first DMF and first large WoW event.  Next time I'm shooting for top 32, which seems like a reasonable goal.

Slops: I haven't seen the obligatory Props and Slops thread yet.

Re: Where are all the Boston Reports?

I just played in the Gadgetzan.  Opened up Dimzer and had to pass him, but I got passed a Kazamon.  I played Rogue when I probably should have played Shaman or Warrior, and lost my first round when I (WARNING: BAD PLAY OF THE DAY APPROACHING) swung Kazamon into Zophos...forgetting that Zophos does unpreventable damage.

    Also...Dundee is a house.

Also also...my Weldon's paid for my trip.

Re: Where are all the Boston Reports?

DMF Boston... missed out on friday tournaments cause we got there like 5:30 PM or so...

Played the team's version of Black Ice w/ some small mods...

round 1: feature match! vs. mr. barnes and his jonas the red. won on time, kind of lame but what are you gonna do?

round 2: vs. harrison fisk's jonas, see his report.

round 3: vs. phillip martin's mythen. didn't know what he was playing in game 1 and he kind of rolled me. game 2 was pitiful. I drew 4x defias and 0x weldon. I think I could have stabilized w/ weldon + counter backup but that didn't happen.

round 4: vs. bojo strikeout. game 1 I never drew myriam and just sat behind weldon and drew a million cards w/ dimzer. game 2 I stabilized at like 2 life but lost to mortal + pummel. game 3 I metalmorph'ed his weapon + more the scarier his board on 4 and that's pretty much game.

round 5: vs. dane's jonas. win game 1 and feel okay about winning 1 of the next 2 but his draws are really good and he plays it well so I don't have much of a shot in either of them really. he always seemd to have the answer.

round 6: vs. jonas for the 4th time! Somehow I manage to win both games in like 30 minutes and get dinner. Something about turn 3 myriam + turn 4 myriam.

round 7: vs. isamu in the "mirror". I rocked the mirror in testing. This was more of the same. my sideboard tech of terrok's is better than his of blade.

round 8: vs. another "mirror" only he wasn't playing dimzer or gromble. I won game 1 pretty comfortably but game 2 he is on the play and he tries to let me back in but my top-decks are bad. Game 3 is a total blowout when I clear his board of weenies and terrok's his giralo to go w/ my myriam.

So I 6-2 and get 12th due to bad tiebreakers.

Sunday I played the gadgetzan and got passed the worst sealed pool i've ever had. I actually built a reasonable deck around roaring blaze x2. It won me 1 game when I roaring'ed for 7 on like turn 6 but I lost and dropped to go draft.

Our draft pod was nuts (bobby, matt spreadbury, damien and myself). I drafted a really strong alliance warlock deck but I had no equipment answers and both matt and bobby drafted some bomb equipments. I lost in the semis to matt's bulwark that I had absolutely no answer to. I actually misplayed the 1st game and probably could have won by deck'ing him but I didn't. I did open a chicken though which is better than the ipod :).

Re: Where are all the Boston Reports?

played in the gadgetzan on friday and opened a decent pool.  no rares but a solid questbase and some hunter abilities so i go longeye and am happy with it.

round 4 i am 3-0 and playing vs andy hoang.  all 3 games are real close but my only answer to cairne bloodhoof is my flip.  game 3 i have board control and he has one card in hand so he plays out cairne.  i flip on it and am pretty confident because i have lethal next turn and he has nothin on board.  then he topdecks...  recall from the brink!  hello cairne.  i scoop.  andy goes on to smash the misery deck in the finals to win the gadgetzan.  grats andy!

round 5 im paired vs andy farrel and i get the beating of my life.  he has the best sealed pool ive ever seen (check the coverage) and with it in his hands i stand no chance.  game 1 he goes turn 5 Lo'gosh...  i flip, so he plays turn 6 rehgar.  game 2 he plays turn 2 mikael, turn 3 enduring shout, turn 5 fortifying shout.  he has twinspire so he is recurring 4/6 mikaels every turn.  somehow this round was over really quick..

main event:  im playing orcs cuz im a scrub

round 1 i lose to harrison fisk playing jonas.

round 2 i beat some dude playing varanis

round 3 i lose in the orc mirror

1-2 drop.  take that, markoffs fantasy team!

at 1 am the next morning we start a 4v4 team draft with myself, kysuke, gayda, phil cape, andy farrel, and 3 others.  it was really casual, we were all tired as hell and drinking.  joe and phil are hilarious and drafting with them was a blast!  my team went 1-3 round 1 but then won out for the big comeback.  we finished the last match as the sun was coming up.

back to the hotel, ~2 hours sleep, and up for the spectral safari.

i open the worst sealed pool i have ever seen.  the only guys in my pool with power 5 or greater are that 4 drop 5/2 (suck!) and daggum tyggor.  i pretty much have no way to end the game.  i go nick merrick because i have a hearburn...

round 1 i play matt walsh and win in a really close match.  after the match i am wandering around and people keep telling me i should draft.  i am really not feelin good about my sealed pool and i notice a bunch of good players signing up for the draft so i break in and drop from the safari.  i feel like a huge jerk for going 1-0 drop on matt, who was a real nice guy.

our draft pod was nuts (matt spreadbury, damien, dalton.)  pack 1 i first pick a rare bean.  next 5 picks were hanso followed by some really solid alliance dudes.  i usually try and pick up some quests here but these guys were too good to pass up, including hanso, double treewarden, woodsie.  pick 7 i somehow get an enduring shout.  pack 2 i get the option of pick 5 and 6 cowering shout, but enduring shout was so late so im extra comfortable with the wheel.  i take 2 quests and get the shouts 13th and 14th pick.  i also pick up 2x kings defender in this pack.  pack 3 i pick up 2 firemaul of destruction.

round 1 damien scoops to me but we later play it out for fun.  he beats me with 2 surprise nether fissures game 1 on 2 of my weapons, but i know to play around them games 2 and 3 and take those.

dont remember much about my second round..  i won 2-0.

round 3 vs spreadbury.  he has a sick paladin deck with penance, bulwark, 2x divine justice and blessing of trials.  game 1 i have tempo all game but it ends up being real close when i kill him with just 3 cards left.  game 2 he gets the bulwark out early and i cant handle it.  eventually hes got bulwark and torgor darkfire out with circle of blood.  between the damage prevention from the shield and torgors ability to eat the tokens, theres no way i can kill him.  on my side of the field is a lone enduring shout.  i decide the only way i can possibly have a chance here is if he has not drawn blessing of trials, so i go all in and play a 7/7 hanso.   he attacks into it and plays the blessing, making a 13/14 torgor.  i scoop.  game 3 i get the curveout from hell:  t1 kinivus, t2 cymbre, t3 treewarden, t4 falcore.  theres not a whole lot he can do here, and i quest on turn 5 and play out the firemaul on 6.  this match was fun..  both our decks were sick so it coulda gone either way.  grats to matt for his top 8 and his awesome constructed deck.

this dmf was a blast despite me scrubbing out of the main event hard.  everyone i met was super cool, and i met a ton of people so im sorry if i forgot any names!

Re: Where are all the Boston Reports?

    Friday:

Gadgetzan: My sealed pool is weak, but I have Uplifting Prayer.  I have 3 allies that cost 5 or more.  I go 1-1 losing in round 2 to Matt Walsh in one of my best epic matches of the weekend.  In both matches I played Uplifting Prayer, brought back an ally which immediately played into my opponent's Rula Blackfist to take my only "big" ally that I could abuse with the Uplifting Prayer.  Sigh.  A turn later Geoffery Kimble wrecked my Uplifting Prayer each game.

Friday Night Draft: Victory, Cape, Farrell, Hoang, Schian and 2 others.  Amazingly fun draft, but we never got to play it all out.  I went 2-0 but never got a chance to play Farrell.  We all went to dinner at Vinny T's.

    Saturday:

    I played Ravenna.

Round 1: Morova of the Sands / Boomkin (Win).

Round 2: Dusty playing Plague Demonsoul (Win)

Round 3: Damien playing Black Ice (Win)

Round 4: Matt Markoff playing Black Ice (Lost)

    - Dissappointing loss for me because I won game 1.  Matt played perflectly.

Round  5: (TEC player) playing Black Ice (Lost)

My deck could beat Black Ice, but it wasn't behaving for me.  I'd had enough of the Black Ice fest so I dropped to draft.

iPod Draft #1: I draft my best deck of the weekend going Alliance Priest.  Round 1 I play John Tatta.  We trade game 1 and 2.  Game 3 he drops his Enduring Shout on curve, follow by Blackened Spear.  I never draw my Pappy Ironbane and didn't have much of a chance in this game. It was tremendous fun playing against John.  I'm glad to see him back in the game playing more.  0-1 drop for me.

Saturday Night Draft: Victory, Cape, Farrell, Hoang, Schian and 2 others.  4x4 Team Draft.  I'm glad that it was a team draft because Farrell was on my team with the sickest draft deck of the weekend bar none.  It was disgusting.  This was also my worst draft deck of the weekend in terms of pure card strength, so I was happy to finish 2-1.  I lost to Kysuke in a close match where a turn 8, Taste of the Arcane won him the match.  The draft finished around 5am.

    Sunday:

No chance that I could get out of bed for the 10am Spectral Safari.

Sunday iPod Draft: I have 3 Horde drafters to my right and I'm in Alliance after starting  Nightblade, Brelnor.  My deck had the potential to be my best draft of the weekend, but the FoH boosters were very very poor for my faction and class.  My deck was still very solid.  I went 1-1, loosing to a Misery deck.

3 of the last 4 iPod drafts I have done between Charlotte and Boston now I've lost to a Misery deck.  No fun.  Hell, losing to John Tatta in round 1 of a draft was Misery as well.  :)  4 for 4.

DMF Boston was exactly what I wanted other than fewer wins.  Getting to do 4 drafts was awesome.  Great practice against top players in both constructed and limited.  Looking forward to Nats.

Re: Where are all the Boston Reports?

Went with Mother Misery for fun and had a good time.

Round 1: Nicholas Merrick (similar to Blac Ice) - 1-2
Round 2: Shaii, Strategist Supreme by Kim Caton - 1-2
    Round 3: Raveena Subtelty Control - 2-0
    Round 4: Black Ice - 1-2

1-3 drop, but 5-6 for games. Not bad for Mother Misery, and I had a great time goofing around.

Thanks for the great games Kim!

    AS WELL YOU SHOULD!

Nah, I dropped post-round 5 to hit up PF Chang's before the airport trip anyway, so it didn't matter too much.  And I lost fewer points losing to you than most other people.

Not to mention, not saying goodbye to your old pal jedion.

Maybe it was for the better... I ended up splitting a tiger in that safari.... You might have just been bad luck :)

I totally told you I was taking off!  You were at table 1 (or 19 or whatever) and playing...dalton? and I said I was out.  We totally took the subway to the airport too!

PS: Grats on the 'ger (or did you get the ti' ?)  You beat me on prizes by roughly 50:1.
