Blessing of Wisdom: Attach to hero/ally. It gains Exhaust: Draw a Card

Seer's Signet: Your hero gains sabatoge ability or equipment.

 

I have Seer's Signet in play, and Blessing of Wisdom is attached to my hero. (I got it from Felshroud)

I propose an attack with my hero, Opponent responds with Hammer of Justice. In response, can I then exhaust my hero to draw a card?

My opponent argued that once I propose an attack, I am unable to respond with anything that would cause my hero to exhaust. He said that as soon as a propose the attack my hero would exhaust. I said the proposed attacker does not exhaust until both player have passed on priority. He then rage quit MWS after I said we would play it his way.

Can anyone help me with who is right?

That is not true you proposed to attack, once you say I am gonna try and attack and than I play something like hammer you cant be like well in response I am gonna draw instead. I posted a topic about this right below this one

Here are the rules governing this.

601 Combat Proposal

601.2      To propose a combat, a player must choose a character he controls to be the proposed attacker, and something else to be the proposed defender.

601.2a   To be a legal proposed attacker, a character must be ready and must be able to attack the proposed defender. In addition, it must have been under the turn player’s control continuously since the start of his or her current turn and/or have ferocity.

601.2e   If a proposed attacker or defender breaks any rules governing combat legality, the proposed combat is illegal and can’t be proposed.

602 Combat Step

602.1 As a combat step starts, the proposed attacker exhausts, becomes an attacker, and starts attacking, but is not yet in combat (602.3). None of this uses the chain. Then, a priority window opens, called the attack window. Any waiting triggered effects are added to the chain, and then the turn player gets priority.

 

Hammer of Justice would have to be played before the Combat Phase and before the attacker exhausts in order to stop the attack that turn. Before Hammer of Justice resolves the attacking player can add to the chain.  This includes exausting to draw a card.  Exausting to draw a card also cancels the proposal and the proposed attacker will still be unable to ready on the following turn.
