Today, I’m going to look at one of the meatiest areas of the game: the lower text box and additional abilities on Character cards.

    Re: Gameplay Preview: Secondary Powers

At this point they could have written an article about what is the best type of dice roller ( crystal light containers vs yhatzee cups ) and I would have eaten it up.  That said, I found the article decent for those that haven't gone over each fig in the spoiled list, and just sort of a summation for those that have.  The stealth explanation seemed like sort of a nod to the post about it in the other board category, which was nice.  Basicly saying that its keyworded and hammered out so don't worry it.  Once they explain it we won't have to worry about it; but the lack of expounding on that was sort of a tease :)  The taunt section raised a question we ran into the other night.  What if the character can't attack?  If Elendril is standing next to a character with taunt, can he not attack anybody?    Anyhow, I'm pretty glad they gave us something, its been too long since an article came out.

Dice Towers are the best. especially the transparent ones where you can see 20 dies falling to their doom.

This article was useless, if anyone is interested in playing the game they would have typically read the rule book by now.

If a the character is able to attack the Warrior he must, otherwise he's free to attack another character. So the long and short of it is that hunters are "immune" to taunt. This comes up at times with Hammer of Wrath as well. If your Paladin is next to a taunt character with no damage on him, but another character does have damage on them you can still play the card against a legal target.

    Re: Gameplay Preview: Secondary Powers

I'd disagree with the first sentence of this article "This is going to be the last article explaining the rules of the game. That’s pretty much because there are no more rules to explain! ".

I can think of a couple of areas where the rules so far published are seriously unclear, and I'd hope to see articles which explain them...

    1) Buff & de-Buff abilities. I have read comments that some de-buffs (e.g. Corruption) can't stack. And certainly it looks as if some buff/de-buff effects could become seriously broken if they do stack. It would be nice to see a clarification of if/how these stack ??

    2) Buff/De-buffs, are they retained after re-spawning ?

    3) What types of damage effects do-not get an AC/Defense roll to protect against them. e.g. "Crit: Damage+1" clearly can be reduced by the targets AC roll. But which of the other effects which produce other damage, do so ?

    4) Ticking a figures clock more than 10+ turns forwards. i.e. past the current turn number ?

I'd very much like to see an article on buff/debuff effects, before the game designers sign off on the rules being complete...?!?

But aside from those items, I do agree the game rules are remarkably clean.

1.) Buffs/Debuffs of the same name do not stack on a character.

2.) Buffs/Debuffs, counters, tokens and other temporary effects are removed from the character when that character is destroyed.

3.) Only attacks may be defended against (Armor/Resist).

4.) There is a rule that says that a character's personal clock cannot "lap" the master clock or wrap around 10 ticks to match the master clock.  A character may not pay a tick cost if doing so would cause the character's clock to match or lap the master clock.  If an effect would force a character's clock to lap or match the master clock, it advances only to the tick preceding the current game tick.

These are all accurate to the version of the CR that was given to judges at GenCon.

There is nothing left to do except release the comprehensive rules.  Hint, hint...Wink, wink...Nudge, nudge...  please?  soon?

Thanks Ripark, I think I finally have enough rules answers to play with any of the spoiler figures...

    Re: Gameplay Preview: Secondary Powers

So, does a Buff / Debuff last on a character until it is destroyed? Do they get removed when the action bar card that generated them readies?

    Re: Gameplay Preview: Secondary Powers

It stays until the model dies, it is removed by another ability or when the ability tells you to remove it.

    Re: Gameplay Preview: Secondary Powers

That's what I figured, but the judge at Blizzcon said the buff/debuff goes away when the card readies. Guess they still need to get their rulings ironed out.

    Re: Gameplay Preview: Secondary Powers

Ji’lan’s Regeneration is a good example of this. Each Troll ally (including Ji’lan) is healed of one damage at the end of ticks 5 and 10, even if Ji’lan happens to be dead at the time.

704.2 Some ongoing abilities are triggered. A triggered ability watches for its trigger event to happen, at which point it triggers. It triggers off every instance of its event, including multiple events happening
simultaneously. It triggers only if its source is in play.

Can we get a clarification on this?

    Re: Gameplay Preview: Secondary Powers

    Ji'lan's power still works.

To be honest, reading rule 704.2 now, it seems that the "It triggers only if its source is in play." isn't necessary. That will be ammended.
