How come Realm Champs are not Block Constructed?

Not that I really mind, but am I the only one who finds it a little odd that the entire realm qualifier season is Block Constructed yet the realm championship changes the format to Standard Constructed?

I'm curious what the reason for the change is.

Well, the entire season is going to be Block Constructed. So that is multiple months of the same format.  It does change in October, but the format will still be a bit played out by that time.  The Realm Championships should be the first big event for Constructed with DOW. It's a fresh new format.

Re: How come Realm Champs are not Block Constructed?

Drums of War will change everything, so having the Realm Champs as the first major tournament using it is awesome. It allows for TONS of new decks to spawn up overnight. I'm pretty excited for it.

Besides, it's not like UDE is the first to start this sort of thing, after all... MTG uses the same sort of system for their Pro Tour. The Qualifiers are never the same as the Pro Tour itself. You need to keep it fresh, not "Who can netdeck the most popular/powerful Block deck from the Qualifier season for the Champs." The Championship will reward great deck building and innovation, what more could you ask for.

The first realm champs were standard constructed even though the qualifying season was sealed.

Fair enough. I'm all for keeping the formats fresh and, personally, I prefer Standard
Constructed to Block for big events anyway.

I heard a rumour ar conts that the championship was supposed to be sealed.  I was disappointed as I will not be able to make it to L.A.  Any plans for other high level limited events?
