    Everyone Needs a Sidekick
    By Patrick Sullivan

So far, we’ve shown nearly everything a character can do. They can attack, heal, move around, and do all sorts of other good stuff. But we still have a few tricks up our sleeves. As even a World of Warcraft novice can tell you, Hunters and Warlocks come with pets, and Shamans come with totems.

Definant hotness!  Im glad to see an interesting mechanic being used for strength of earth totem, as opposed to a straight +1 damage.  Totems will be very cool in this game, very very cool!  I am anxious to see what "named" mobs UDE uses for the monster faction that will end up being able to be used for hunter pets (like the way that Voidwalker figure can be used for summoning Hukkrit).  I like that Harukka Skycaller is in the flavor text of the strength of earth totem card.

/cross fingers for Orc Enhancement Shaman insanity in the core set

Now I just want to see how druid shapeshifting mechanics will work in this game.  Will the figures be represenative of their spec?  Would an Arktos figure come as a NE bearform, or would he be in casterform?  I think it'd be cool if they came in casterform, and then there could be monsterfaction figures that could be used when you shapeshift (they could be used for hunter pets too).  Will shapeshifts be an ability card, or lowertext ability?  Seeing that SoE totem is instant, I imagine shapeshifting will probably be instant as well.  Hopefully they will be abilities that have their own lower text.  For example, bearform would add 1 defense dice and add taunt.  How will shapeshifting back to casterform be handled?  Will using a casterform spell break a shapeshift, then you cant shift back until your shapeshift card readies?  How will Entangling Roots work?  What about the all important Moonfire spam?

lol, I am reaching Huntre levels of obsession and speculation!

Re: Gameplay Preview: Everyone Needs a Sidekick

    I have a few questions...

Does the re-roll effect stack with other re-roll effects, such as hills or other totems?

Following that, I don't remember seeing anything to prevent summoning multiple copies of them when the action card readies. Pets have the limit of only having one pet, totems I would think isn't limited in the same fashion. I would like a clearer explanation on this.

And what about the representation of a totem on the game board? I assume some type of hex piece and possibly something special from the UDE store somewhere down the line. (reminds me I still haven't gotten my dark portal or fires mini binder yet... I hope to be using them for the mini cards. Speaking of which, I better save up points for mini ude point store stuff)

Anyways, I'm liking how they are doing the pets. It's own separate stats and abilities.
Wonder if every pet action card release will there be a actual monster mini released in the same set. How effective they are going to be remains to be seem.

I was acctually wondering how they were going to handle this, but it sounds like a good thing they have working on here. I'm glad to hear it.

This is all very cool and I can't wait for the game to be released.

I would really like if they had small totem minis as tournament prizes (smaller than the gnome figures). That would be awesome.

I've been wondering the same thing!  I had already planned on using a any bear that might be included in the monster faction as a feral druid.  I'd really also like to see some Boomkin and Trees sculpted.  Grassroots and I have the WoWminis druid population represented on this forum lol.

    7) A character may control only one pet at a time. If a character summons a second pet, the first pet is removed from the board.

i suppose if your pet is low on HP you could resummon it instead of relying on a heal. But seeing most small heals are 0 cost while summons ae 4 cost, it'd have to be a desperate movement.

This game seems better and better. Already played/demoed several times with the printable demo. Hope to get some Demo kits of this game. And hope that they but a hunter or a warlock with pet in it. The form question is also interesting. I believe they will tell us about that next. Or I hope :D

Re: Gameplay Preview: Everyone Needs a Sidekick

This game is looking like a lot of fun. Each new mechanic appears to be fluid and easily understandable and coming from a long time player of the MMO the mechanics are pretty accurate representations of the game. Pets seem like they're going to be really important parts of any hunter or warlock strategy.

My question is this, how is stealth going to work in this game? Obviously they will have address these remaining mechanics issues. Maybe they will do things like the TCG and do a class by class analysis to show a new figure and it's effects as well as a couple action cards each week. I'd like to get to see more cards, more figures and more of everything.

Stealth will *most likely* (read: huntre said it so it must be false...) be implemented using the following text.  This text has been seen coming from UDE, but it was not on rogue character.  ...It, also, is not a power that lotherin will have...*cough*...

At the start of my turn, if there are no adjacent enemies, I have attack +1 and enemies can't react while I don't move more than 1 space this turn.

Re: Gameplay Preview: Everyone Needs a Sidekick

That's definitely not what the text will be, it's in test-ese. :)

It's certainly the best guess we have at the sort of way in which stealth will be implemented though.

Not long to wait till the majority of the first set is spoiled.

Re: Gameplay Preview: Everyone Needs a Sidekick

Did nobody wonder why the text of the totem is "Allies on or adjacent to this totem may reroll 1 die while making (Melee) attacks."?

Shouldn't that give also enemies the boost?

On the other hand in the text there is the explanation

You drop your Strength of Earth Totem and it chills out for a while, granting a power bonus to everyone in your party that’s near it.

In WoW TCG this would have been phrased "Friendly Allies on or adjacent..." or "Allies in your party on or adjacent..."

    Was this only a shortcut?

Or is there an error? (Either in the text of the card or in the article?)

Re: Gameplay Preview: Everyone Needs a Sidekick

The terminology is different in the CMG. Each game piece is a "character". "Allies" are the characters in your party. "Enemies" are the characters in your opponents party.
