Will Locations play an important part of the game?

I was wondering, since the Wow universe is diverse in locations, will there be any attempt to introduce them (the locations) as some form of game mechanic for the tcg in the future? I mean, I think it'd be cool if say, you play a location like Dun Morough or Ironforge which gives stat boosts to Dwarven allies, or the Auction House, where you can send one of your own allies or something to pay the cost for a card (for instance). Plus it'd give a better 'feel' to the the tcg game (just like in the MMOG) where you get to travel around and do stuff.

UDE said some time long ago that in a future set, they would introduce a Location card type. We're not sure how it will effect the game and how it works.

Re: Will Locations play an important part of the game?

My bold guess is that Location cards will play similar to Field cards in Yu Gi Oh. They will have Location (1) type which allows for only one Location per game (if two Locations on the game field, player of second Location chooses which Location is sacrificed, and the sacrificed Location goes to its controller's graveyard), not per player like Pets, Melee, Armor etc. and effects affect every player with no "friendly/opposing" separation. If I were to add up activation powers to Locations, which really spices up things, I'd make the use of powers available to all players (if Location has "(1), Exhaust > Target ally has +1 ATK when defending", any player in his own turn could pay cost and exhaust the Location, adding its effect to the game chain, and Location readies on the beginning of the next player's turn to allow him to use it - some Locations may use Cooldown counters, with 1 counter removed per next player's turn, and only when no counters, it may ready). If I were to expand Location into Locations and Sub-Locations (i.e. Molten Core & Core Lava Pit), I'd bring Area(1) cards that are groups of Locations and allow for certain Locations to be played. In the above example, Molten Core would be Area(1) card with "All Fire abilities deal 1 additional damage. (2), Exhaust > Target ally is dealt 1 fire damage." and Core Lava Pit would be Location(1) with "Molten Core Area Only. All Fire abilities deal 2 additional  damage. In the beginning of each turn, all characters you control receive 1 fire damage unless you pay (1) for each.".

Personally, I think Locations should be sort of like Quests - a card that is played face-up in your resource row. However, unlike Quests, you could only have one face-up at a time. So if you play another Location as a resource, you have to flip the one you had previously played. Whichever Location is currently face-up would have some sort of passive, but not too overpowering, effect. Like Ironforge might say Ongoing: Dwarves in your party have +1 ATK.

How about having Locations, start in play, like your Hero does.

Re: Will Locations play an important part of the game?

The only problem I see with this mechanic is that if each player has his own Location on the resource row, what combat do we have there? One Paladin is in Ironforge, another Horde Shaman is in Ogrimar - they are maybe hundreds or thousands miles away but they wield combat spells and damage each other in close combat.... hardly believable.

Re: Will Locations play an important part of the game?

Id like to see locations not as where you are, but where you could go.  Say auction house, spend 7 and search your deck for any equipment item, place it in  your hand.  Stormwind:  spend 7 to recieve "blessing of the dragonslayer" all allies and heroes recieve +3Att and HP this turn...

Expensive to  use since travel is costly because of how much time it takes to get anywhere (yay teleport!), but the effect could be great.

Also they could tie it in with professions, like Un'Goro Crater (requires Skinning, Herbalism, and/or Mining):  Skinners recieve +1 resource this turn, Herbalist recieve +2 resources this turn, Miners recieve +2 resources this turn...that would give some balance because I know some heroes are double gathering, and I cant see how else they will recieve benefits when professions are introduced (the devs have talked about what professions will get, crafters will have access to more equipment).

Locations may aslo include some sort of byline like "remove location from game if hero enters combat on his turn" meaning, the hero went there, got what he wanted, and then left.

They could also play out like locations in the VS System rulessystem, as some sort of ongoing quest or something.

The game will include locations in the future, and they will be cool.  :)

I don't suppose you can humor us with an ETA on which set (or how many from now) to expect Locations? =)

Come on now, no sense bringing back posts from 1 and a half years ago.

Re: Will Locations play an important part of the game?

I did a search for threads which included any news on Locations and actually couldn't find any except for this one.

Regardless of its age it seemed like it was actually the most appropriate thread to put this information that some people might be interested in.

Thus there sure did seem to be some "sense" in bringing back this post from 1 and a half years ago ;)

If you're going to reference an older thread, it's better to link to it in a new post rather than bump a year and a half old thread.
